Description

The weirwood tree animation at boot up of each disc is cute though it sometimes doesn’t get a chance to actually animate each time (your mileage may vary depending on your equipment.) But the momentary static “languages available” image at the start of each disc seems a bit unnecessary and maybe even a little irritating, but perhaps some may need it. Nevertheless, if the ending falls somewhat short of expectations, the journey to get there is thrilling. Game of Thrones isn’t afraid to throw you a surprise or two each season, sometimes several. This is a series where it feels like anything can happen… and that is a rare and wonderful thing indeed. Drop down “house banner” menus are neat but they are translucent and so is the text on them so they are not easy to read over the moving video montage that is presented behind them. Also, not a big deal, but they retract after 60 seconds if not acted upon. Of course, you can open a banner again, but don’t be surprised if it disappears after you return from grabbing refreshment.

For Series X users, I don't recommend you to buy this product if you use that console as your only blu ray 4k player. Game of Thrones spans across eight seasons, and is split into eight DVD sets (both individually and the series in one boxed set). Each of the sets come with different special features, including:The ability to walk through the Episodes menu and select any episode from the entire season then be prompted to insert the correct disk if the selected episode is not on the current one is a nice little feature. It is not available on the Season 7 and 8 sets for some reason. Based on the fantasy book series A Song of Fire and Ice by George R.R. Martin, HBO’s Game of Thrones tells the story four great family Houses in the ancient, alternate world kingdom of Westeros—the Starks, the Lannisters, the Baratheons, and the Targaryens. Each of them is vying for power, for control of the kingdom’s Iron Throne, with political intrigue, bloodletting, and betrayal a-plenty. First, there was an HBO Shop exclusive version of Season One on DVD that included a special DVD bonus disc with a Creating the World of Westeros featurette. Second, the Season Two Blu-ray available at Target had a bonus disc that added Invitation to the Set, Arya’s New Look, Art Direction, and Weapons featurettes. Third, the Season Three Blu-ray was available at Target with a bonus disc that included a 90-minute An Evening with Game of Thrones 2013 Emmy panel discussion. Finally, Season Eight was available on Blu-ray at Target and Walmart with exclusive bonus discs that added How the Storm Was Born and From Renderings to Reality: The Visual Effects of Season 8 respectively. It’s a shame that this content isn’t included on the 4K set, but you should be aware that most of it is available for free viewing on YouTube (at least some of it—and actually quite a lot more—on HBO’s official Game of Thrones channel). And though it’s not a bonus disc, don’t forget that HBO made a change to Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season after eagle-eyed fans detected the likeness of a certain political figure as one of the severed heads in the season’s final episode. So if you want that scene as originally broadcast, you’ll want to hang onto that first Blu-ray set in particular.

The image quality of this product is phenomenal. Everything looks great, the sound is way better than the one that HBO Max provides and it's overall the best way to watch game of thrones. The design of the discs could have been better, but it's elegant and clear with the content that is included.Selected items are only available for delivery via the Royal Mail 48® service and other items are available for delivery using this service for a charge. Introduced in 2011, Game of Thrones was one of HBO's flagship TV series before the final season aired in May 2019. It told the tale of the War of the Five Kings in the fictional realm of Westeros. For more than five consecutive years, the series rated as one of the most-watched fantasy series on television. Now, you can own your own copies of all the seasons in the Game of Thrones DVD collection. What does the Game of Thrones DVD box set include? All seventy-three episodes are included on thirty 4K Ultra HD discs, which actually do include significant special features too. What’s more, three additional standard Blu-rays have been included with additional bonus features. Here’s a disc-by-disc breakdown of all the extras you get in this set. Note that all of the video-based content is in 1080p HD: SEASON ONE: DISC ONE

So that’s what you get in terms of special features. As you can clearly see, it’s a lot. And much of it is very good content indeed. The question you might be asking now is: What don’t you get? Episode Two commentary with Dave Hill, Michael McElhatton, Iwan Rhoen, Liam Cunningham, and Ben Crompton Starting with Season 4 and after “Dolby Atmos” audio support is available, although I don’t have the equipment to determine the difference. But the enhanced audio is certainly available. The Bonus Features set does not support Dolby Atmos (who cares?) If you are having a similar issue with this products, it probably has something to do with your player. All the discs are region free, so don't be afraid of that. The Game of Thrones complete series box set collects every episode of the show (1–8), allowing you to visit (or revisit) the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. The story, which focuses on the conflict for the Iron Throne, is told through the perspective of multiple characters: Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), and many others. Representing some of the Great Houses of the continent, these fan-favourite heroes and villains engage in violent clashes, both on the battlefield and in the halls of their castles. What most of them don’t realise is that there are greater threats than those directly before them; beyond the Wall (a 700-feet-tall fortification made of ice), the White Walkers are preparing their forces, waiting for the right time to venture north, and when they do, nobody — not commoner nor king — will be safe. How Much Is the Game of Thrones Box Set?The extra 3-disc bonus set is excellent with a two-part “Game of Thrones Reunion” feature, Anatomy of a Scene” (for Seasons 4,5,6,7), “Behind the Scenes” (for Seasons 1, 2, 4, 5), “Inside the Visual Effects” (for Seasons 1-7) and “Season 7 Deleted Scenes”. There are similar features scattered throughout the sets and I have not viewed them all…yet.

HBO has released the complete series on Blu-ray previously, and Seasons One and Eight have been released on 4K Ultra HD as well (you can read our review of Season One here on The Bits). Now, after a long wait, the network has finally upgraded the rest of the series to 4K too. The presentation and the box are pretty solid. It also includes a small guide that shows all the episodes included in the discs. The “Conquest & Rebellion” feature on disc 3 of the Bonus Features set is long (ten chapters) and yet quite interesting, though consisting of slightly animation-enhanced high quality static images and character voice-overs. (Again, perhaps not done by the actors.) Note that once you select a chapter the history continues to play through the following chapters unless you interrupt it (that is, you can’t play “one and done”.) I found it useful to have subtitles on during the feature. It gives a fairly thorough overview of the 300-400 years of history before the Game of Thrones timeline began.

All the original DVD extra bonus features provided are present along with several new features. Most are indeed “behind the scenes” video features, but some are text and still animation images, some are voiced-over by the characters (not sure these were provided by the actors or not) and some are just text you walk through and read. Nice extras but not as good as the bonus video features provided. If you don’t like fantasy, it’s the character drama that makes this series great. The heroes are deeply flawed. Most of the villains have a redeeming quality or two, or at least the odd empathetic moment. All of the characters are dimensional and complex. And over the course of the series, each grows and changes in unexpected ways. What’s more, this is very much an ensemble cast. Initially, the company includes Sean Bean ( The Lord of the Rings), Mark Addy ( The Full Monty), Lena Headey ( Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Emilia Clarke ( Solo), Kit Harington ( Spooks aka MI5), Peter Dinklage ( The Station Agent), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau ( Nightwatch), Charles Dance ( Alien 3), and many more. New cast members are added each season, among them Gwendoline Christie ( Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Aidan Gillen ( The Wire), Jason Momoa ( Aquaman), Stephen Dillane ( John Adams), and Diana Rigg ( The Avengers). Game of Thrones DVD and Blu Ray sets are different due to the technical aspects involved in their production. In addition to these features:
