The Drift Ghost XL Pro beats the ease of use and mount options of any other camera on the market by a long stretch. This camera continues with its predecessors’ same design. You will easily confuse it with the Ghost X and the Ghost 4K. One physical distinguishing feature is the size, as the name suggests, the XL is the bigger brother here. When it comes to using the Drift Ghost, XL Pro is one of the easiest action cameras to use. It’s been designed to be as simple as possible, even when using gloves or underwater. The large button closest to the lens starts and stops recording with the light changing to indicate that the recording has started; another press to finish. Our most definitive action camera to date, the Ghost XL Pro, is our flagship camera for the Ghost series I’m puzzled that no one has yet either spotted the need for or been able to design a camera that fits the use-case described above. Perhaps it’s not as attractive a market segment as I’m imagining it would be.While the Ghost XL Pro offers plenty of mounting options, it doesn’t offer quite so many advanced features. There is a screen, although it’s a mono LCD rather than a full-blown colour touch screen. The small screen and direct control buttons are only used to start and stop recording, and if you want to change any settings, then the fastest route is through the App. Then there's 'Clone Mode,' which lets you control this in synch with other Ghost cameras (XL, X or 4K models). Value The Ghost XL has only one codec; the H.264. This codec is particularly important if you are using an old PC for post-production. It produces files that are very easy to edit. One of the most impressive features is the internal battery that can provide up to 7 hours of battery life when recording at 1080p or 4.5 hours at 4K. To put this into context, that’s over double that of the standard GoPro battery.The Ghost XL records good quality videos in full HD in the daytime. The colors are bright and it gets in a lot more details than expected.

The one downfall is the resolution and framerate options. At 4K, the maximum framerate is 30fps, ok for static and slow movement but not great for high-speed action. 2.7K at 60fps is very decent, and the 1080p 60fps is also superb with the option to extend to 120fps. It’s a shame the camera doesn’t extend the framerate to 4K at 60fps, but that’s the only real fault I can find with this otherwise excellent camera. Can be connected with up to 10 other cameras for wireless remote control from a single master camera Straight from the box, the XL ISO is set at Auto. You also get the chance to adjust the ISO settings manually from a minimum of 100 to a maximum of 800. Other values are 200 and 400.The lens rotates 300 degrees which means no matter how you mount the camera, it will always capture the footage the ‘right way up’. The great thing about the phone app is that you can see a live view of what the camera is looking at and you can set it all before riding off, knowing the footage will be recorded as you want it to. To navigate through the settings of a current mode, press the middle button and it will highlight the settings in turn where you have options to change them. Using the App to Control the Camera Whatever you do on one camera will be replicated on the rest. E.g. If you start/stop a recording, all connected cameras will do exactly that. You also have the advantage over all other action cameras: it doesn’t have to be level, either the right way up or upside down; you twist the lens to get the horizon correct. Having in mind that the XL does not have a huge display and neither is it a touch screen, we expect a longer battery life here compared to other brand cameras like Akaso.
