About this deal

Okay, so I know the Godox AD600 Pro TTL and its variants have been around for quite a while. (It became available at the beginning of 2018), and it was certainly a highly anticipated bit of kit. When it was announced, there were a number of key features that caught my eye, such as the 0.9sec recycle time at full power output, new bulb design and dome, better bulb positioning, flash duration indication, colour consistency and more.

Comparing the modelling lamps, the AD600Pro comes out on top with a 38W COB LED, compared to the 30W COB LED on the AD400Pro. The main differences are that the AD600Pro does not have the option for interchangeable adapter rings for Bowens, Profoto and Elinchrom, and obviously there’s the 200-watt power output difference between the two flash heads. The AD600Pro is a powerful, portable lithium-ion powered flash from Godox that combines TTL (Through-The-Lens) metering with reliable performance and versatile accessories. The flash offers extraordinary power output, with a guide number of 60 at 200mm in the most demanding conditions. It also offers stroboscopic and HSS (High Speed Sync) functions up to 1/8000th of a second. What is the guide number for the Godox AD600Pro? The old dome wouldn't have fit the new flash tube, it's a better design with a frosted front, so again a nice improvement and only a fix if you're insisting everything they've changed is a fix.

We don't like being beaten on price.

The AD600 Pro offers a power range of 1/256 to 1/1 in 1/10 stop increments to allow for ultimate control of your lighting output. This offers for a wide aperture during shallow depth-of-field shots and gives greater flexibility in the size of subjects that you are able to shoot. IMPROVED 38W LED MODELLING LAMP

The AD600Pro Witstro features a high-speed sync mode that works with shutter speeds up to 1/8000 seconds, offering flash durations from 1/220 to 1/10,100 seconds. Another unique setting is its Stable color temperature mode, which tightly controls color to keep temperature changes within ±75K across the entire power range. Despite these impressive characteristics, it manages to keep recycling times low at 0.01-0.9 seconds for fast and reliable use, and is capable of 12 continuous pops at 1/16 power output. Finally, a 38W modeling lamp is available to help aid composition. Godox AD600 Pro TTL Flash Unit 600Ws TTL / HSS Battery Powered Portable Flash Strobe with 38W Modelling Lamp and High-Efficiency Reflector It also comes with a set of screws and an allen key for fixing the included Bowens Mount adapter ring to the unit. Right from the outset, it’s clear that Godox has put some thought into making the AD400Pro flash even more transportable and convenient by providing a carry case with the unit itself – an accessory that the AD600Pro does not come with.

Godox AD600 Pro TTL Witstro Flash Head Key Features:

IMPROVED 38W LED MODELLING LAMP - Improving on the AD600's 10W LED modelling lamp, the AD600 Pro boasts an impressive 38W LED modelling lamp making it much more versatile and useful, especially in lit areas No, the list I provided were the features I remembered, if you actually look at the product you can see it's been almost completely redesigned (new chassis, new battery, new controls, new display, new tube/dome/modelling, new electronics), it's ridiculous to think you'd get it for the same price as the lower end model. Lighting modifiers such as softboxes, barn doors, snoots and beauty dishes are also readily fitted directly to the unit or the attached mount.

Due to its size, the AD100 Pro is a great light to hold and maneuver as you need. Because it is so light and small, it is perfect for squeezing into tight spaces and angles to achieve the perfect lighting. It can also be simply held in your hand and moved around accordingly which isn’t possible or can be uncomfortable with bigger and heavier lights. sync cord slot for direct connection, wireless control port, and USB Type-C port for firmware upgrades Using the standard reflector, and a Polaris Karat lightmeter, placed thirty inches from the front of the reflector, I recorded the following results with the meter set to a sensitivity of ISO200: The addition of interchangeable mounts on the AD400Pro gives you the versatility to be able to mix and match with the equipment that you’ve already invested in, which is a feature that no other strobe head on the market can do. This ability to overpower the sun comes from the massive 600Ws of power that this light can produce. This light has a power range of 1/256-1/1 in 10 increments, a recycling time of 0.01-0.9s, as well as sporting TTL and HSS capabilities.

Godox AD600 Pro TTL Witstro Flash Head Product Video:

My idea would be to have 1 Pro as the main light where even in a box at 12 feet you could get f8 to f11 on full and still keep 1 sec recycle. Then a couple of the less expensive versions for the other bits where at lower power outputs they will keep up easily. The colour consistency is now matched by other Off-Camera Flash (OCF) units, such as Elinchrom with their ELB 500 TTL, which I reviewed previously HERE. I have to say, the AD600 Pro has stood the test of time extremely well. I used it in various scenarios such as the following product shot.

I ended up swapping out the overhead light for an Elinchrom ELB 500 TTL, which weighs little more than a gasp of air, and the AD600 Pro was used for the accent light. Now bear in mind that this is my personal choice, because I'm lugging kit all over the country most days of the week, and a lot of my shoots end up requiring overhead lighting, such as food etc. For me it is two major points: Value and weight. When doing school photography I used to carry the two Einsteins, two batteries, cables, extension cable (if battery fails), huge heavy duty stands, radio triggers and receivers (three times what I needed). To carry all that I have a bag I call a "body Bag" because you can fit a small person in it.

When the AD-360 came out it was the Quantum-killer I had anticipated as I could see the rapidly improving Chinese manufacturers moving into previously unassailable strongholds. As a location photographer the locations provide plenty of color shift natively that masks any color shifts that might be present in the flashes. Were I shooting on a studio set with almost no variation in subject I might notice the drift. However I didn't see much shift from my White Lightnings despite their "primitive" design. STREAMLINED HIGH-INTENSITY REFLECTOR - Included with the Godox AD600 Pro is a modern, streamlined high-intensity reflector. This lightweight modifier improves on the designs of other reflectors, allowing you to direct the light exactly where you need it and also comes with a Bowens S-type fitting, allowing you to use a wide variety of modifiers Textiles are a good litmus test for colour consistency, mainly because textile clients will know if their product is correctly coloured, or not. And they can spot a 100 degrees kelvin difference a mile off, I kid you not!
