Just make sure when preparing milk-based drinks that you switch the milk frothing regulator to the "froth" position. Of course, shrinking down the design does come with some compromises. The water tank is a good deal smaller than the Vertuo Next at 600ml, the capsule bin can fit just eight used pods and the tallest mug you’ll manage to fit under the brew head will be 8cm, or 12cm if you remove the chunky drip tray. However, if you’re happy to overlook these small quibbles, then the Pop is a tough machine to beat in terms of simplicity, value and style.

The process is a bit messy, so you may need to clean the machine with a cloth afterward. Water tends to drip from the milk system spout. The coffee drinks are good quality. Gran Lattissima has a powerful 19-bar pump, the same as other Nespresso OriginalLine machines. The pump ensures there’s good coffee extraction during the brewing and that espresso has a nice crema. We tried the machine ourselves and came away impressed with its speed, simplicity, and coffee quality. The espresso shots were extremely bold and topped with a rich crema. One possible critique is that the two drip-style options retain a bit of the boldness and bitterness that's characteristic of espresso. This will please customers who like a stronger brew, but it may be an adjustment for those who prefer true drip coffee. Alongside the three classic drink sizes, the Gran Lattissima can prepare a number of milk-based coffees at the touch of a button. This means you can recreate your favourite coffee shop drinks at home for a fraction of the cost and without the long queues. Remove and rinse the capsule container, the drip tray, the cup support, and the drop collector. You should do this every few days, depending on your use. All components are dishwasher safe.By the way, in our opinion, this coffee maker looks better in white. White also hides better dust and smudges. Taste: After tasting several drinks from each machine, we rated the flavor on a 1 to 5 scale. Taste is certainly subjective, so we used at least two types of capsules for each device. We evaluated the differences in aroma, body, crema, and temperature as well. All of these details were factored into our final rating. That way we could provide the most accurate depiction of what the espresso tasted like and how it differed from machine to machine. Depending on the type of Nespresso machine you own, a milk frother is another accessory worth consideration. Adding one will let you turn already-delicious espresso into lattes, cappuccinos, and more right from home. In a dishwasher — Disassemble all six parts of the milk frothing system and place them in the dishwasher. Once they are clean, reassemble them. It only does the two standard drinks sizes – espresso and lungo – but we were impressed with CitiZ’s performance. Drinks came out at a consistent temperature and there wasn’t a great deal of variation in the amount pulled through each time. In comparison to the Essenza Mini, the Citiz is far more consistent.

You can also create a custom drink if the recipes by De'Longhi do not suit your definition of a particular drink. Like all brewing devices, Nespresso machines need time to heat up the water before they can make coffee and espresso. Fortunately, their heat-up time is significantly faster than that of real espresso machines, electric drip coffee makers, and many pod-based competitors, including Keurig. Nespresso devices require anywhere from three to 30 seconds to heat up. The majority fall in the middle of that range, averaging around 20 seconds.
