Yet again the book is set in the North-East of England which I am a bit biased about as that's where I live. It's great knowing where the places and locations are. I loved the pace of this book and it keeps you enthralled from beginning to end. For those who have been following the series you will enjoy this book especially as an ongoing situation comes to a grand finale (no spoilers!). Loved it! Tuxedo Princess– The Princess was initially moored on the Newcastle side of the Tyne, but soon crossed to Hillgate Quay. A boat nightclub. She departed for good in 2007, looking rather the worse for wear after all that partying, to be towed to Greece for another makeover as a floating casino. As a lover of history, I'm always keen to discover and learn about magnificent historical locations and buildings and ancient events and battles. And reading this author's books I always end up on Google as I feel the need to see the places mentioned, and every time, I realise that the online pictures are a mirror image of what I had imagined while reading the book. This shows the author's ability of vividly describing and bringing to life places and sceneries. This time I searched information about Heavenfield church and Bamburgh castle as these are the two focal points in this book. When a man is found dead at the remote church of Heavenfield, DCI Ryan is the only other person for miles around. The police have no weapon, no motive and no other suspects. Already suspended from Northumbria CID, Ryan must fight to clear his name. But soon, more than his career is at stake when prominent members of the mysterious ‘Circle’ begin to die. Somebody wants Ryan’s name to be next on the coroner’s list and to survive he must unmask the devil who walks among them – before it is too late. Unfortunately for Ryan, the devil looks just like everybody else… Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit from LJ Ross, set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape. Heavenfield (DCI Ryan Mysteries, #3) by L.J. Ross – eBook Details Head across the Millennium Bridge to the Baltic Art Gallery. Take the lift up to the viewing gallery and take in the view of the market and spot the famous sights of Newcastle.

Spottee’s Cave – Spottee was a foreign sailor who was stranded in Sunderland and lived in the cave. His name came from the spotted shirt he wore, and he was regarded as a lunatic by locals, partly because he did not speak English. He subsisted by scavenging along the coast, begging, and doing manual work. According to the legend, he disappeared into the cave never to be seen again and was regarded by children as a ‘boggle’ (a bogey man or ghost). If you love walking, make a break of it this summer and explore the route. There’s so many gorgeous places for an overnight stay. Angel of the North– The statue was designed by Antony Gormley and is located in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Completed in 1998, it is made of steel and stands twenty metres tall with wings measuring fifty-four metres in diameter. Known affectionately to some locals as ‘Rusty Rita’, it welcomes travellers making their way northbound along the A1. Paskutiniu metu Rajenui ir taip nelengvas metas.. Jis buvo kuriam laikui nušalintas laikinai nuo pareigų, o dabar jis aptiktas ir prie lavono.. Tai tikrai nežada nieko gero. The content and pace of each chapter draws you in and pushes you on; I felt really annoyed when I had to pause the story as I was far away in Northumberland helping with the investigation (well I was observing!!) and wanted to know what happened next. I also love the way all the characters are drawn, and I was interested in how they developed and what happened to them, not just the main protagonists.

If you have not yet experienced this series you can pretty much start anywhere with it. I have also recently read book four and that one is bloody fantastic also. Of course starting at the beginning is never a bad idea, certainly to get to know DCI Ryan who is one of my favourite crime characters of any books around at the moment, but the books are clever in that you could read any as a stand-alone and not feel lost in the wilderness. However, she found herself dissatisfied after a decade working in law where every day was a battle and she longed for a change. Gregory galivants across the world in this series, from Ireland to France to New York City and more. In this series Ross’s writing is described as her usual murder and mystery peppered with dark humour. The first novel in her Alexander Gregory Thrillers series, Impostor, was shortlisted in the British Book Awards 2020: Crime & Thriller Book of the Year. The audiobook of Impostor, narrated by Hugh Dancy, was also selected as a finalist in the New York Festivals Radio Awards, Best Fiction Audiobook of the Year Category. In May 2021, Louise was shortlisted for the prestigious Crime Writers’ Association ‘Dagger in the Library’ award, which recognises an author’s entire body of work having been consistently enjoyed by library borrowers around the United Kingdom, and an author’s longstanding support of libraries. I had been saving Heavenfield since its release because I didn’t know when the next installment of the DCI Ryan series would be released. And then I saw the cover reveal on FB and it’s coming soon so needless to say I hopped onto my kindle straight away to get into it!

This is a fast paced crime thriller set in the North East of England. The plot is believable and the characters come alive in this setting. Planetrees Roman Wall An historic landmark, because this is where the wall is at its narrowest. You can’t park here but there is a car park at Chesters Roman Fort and Planetrees is a 30- minute walk from there. As you walk, you’ll probably spot several extras in the novel – well-fed sheep and cows in the nearby fields! St Cuthbert’s Island (a tiny tidal island only accessible at low tide, where Saint Cuthbert lived as a hermit).DCI Ryan has been ‘invited’ to meet his lovely girlfriend Anna’s mentor at a secluded old church. Of course, he’s immediately discovered standing, literally red-handed, over the old bloke’s body by a group of visiting pilgrims. Not a good day for Ryan, it would seem. Plus, he has to break the news to Anna that her beloved surrogate father has been shot to death, brains splattered on the old stone walls. I have simply fallen in love with the character DS Frank Phillips! He's a rough, gruff teddy bear who's all puffy marshmallow on the inside. I adore his cheekiness & witty remarks! I literally had tears rolling down my face with laughter at his banter with DCI Ryan during the interrogation of former Detective Chief Superintendent Arthur Gregson, at the conclusion of this novel.
