About this deal

And perhaps that is the reason we haven't heard more about him before now. As discussed, Celaena is a master at avoiding painful subjects, and a beloved friend who is perhaps the only surviving member of her family (on the continent), who rains terror on the remnants of Terrasen at the King's command would certainly qualify as "painful." Please let them save Aedion (or have Aedion break himself out). I feel like if Aedion dies, all of the character development in HoF might crash into bits and pieces. I need to see a reunion between these two. Heir of Fire begins with Celaena lazing about on a rooftop in Wendlyn's capital city, drinking cheap wine (that she stole) from a jug, and feeling sorry for herself. I can safely say Heir of Fire is my favourite of the series thus far. It was so much fun, so much more than I had anticipated. Honestly, I cannot begin to explain all of the feels I’ve been left with. Even though I know this review will end up rather lengthy, I fear I will forget to mention some things. I really do have that much to say, it really did leave me feeling so much.

Celaena is facing more challenges than she has before and among them is dealing with her grief and embracing her magic. Celaena has become vulnerable and self-loathing after everything that has happened and what she’s supposed to do now. She gets better towards the end. Dorian and Chaol have their own struggles throughout the book. Dorian is still trying to master his magic and trying to hide it from everyone, most of all from his father who will kill him. He is also starting to finally stand up to his father and become a true king that he is destiny to be. Chaol’s loyalties are torn but he has become bolder and is willing to make sacrifices as he joins forces with unlikely allies for the greater good. Let's not forget Chaol. I loved him in the first two but where he was in this book was just annoying. Again, this was great for making a character three dimensional instead of just the rugged hero archetype. At this point though I would say I don't want him to be with Calaena, not with who she is becoming as Aelin. This is random, and I don't know if anyone else felt this way, because most people seem to love Rowan and I'm right there with them. However, for some reason I kept wondering if a triangle/square would happen with Aedion at some point in the future. It was just those throw away remarks from both Aedion and Calaena/Aelin about how close they were and how in the past people thought they would be a great couple politically. Things that happened in this book started as throw away comments in the first and second so I really wonder about that. I wouldn't be opposed. I felt a shift in my heart from the Dorian/Chaol love triangle to a potential Rowan/Aedion love triangle. This seems to have come from our main character's shift from Calaena to Aelin. This plot arc was intense and the culmination of it was heart-wrenching. Everyone lost something and the fate of these three is very precarious indeed. I was biting my nails at the end wondering what other horrors they might have to face. Have you ever screamed like that? Screamed so loudly out of fury and despair that it feels like the lining of your throat is being eaten away by the acid that fills you?

She didn’t let it out—no, because he didn’t truly understand a thing about what lurked under her skin and ran claws down her insides. Heir of Fire was progressively better than the first two books. The plot and character development stood out the most. It also felt more mature than the last two. Celaena’s development really impressed me. At the beginning, she was running from herself. This became more and more evident as she struggled through her training with Rowan: In this book we follow Chaol who went through quite a lot this time around. We've come to know Chaol as someone who's very loyal to Adarlan and to the King. However in this book we see his internal struggle between what he deems morally just and his loyalty to the King. And all of this while dealing with a broken heart after Celaena left Rifthold. not Bookswagon, are responsible for the contents of your submission. None of the content that you submit shall be subject to any obligation of confidence on the part of Bookswagon, its agents, Another thing that was amazing was Aelin’s and Rowan’s friendship. It does develop into a romantic relationship I know, but it was just so pure and refreshing here. Both of them, broken and scarred people, finding happiness again by helping each other… And I’m glad that it’s not that insta-love rubbish, because nothing, nothing, puts me off more. True love after you just meet a person? *scoffs* This is how it’s supposed to be. Respect and friendship. It seems perfectly reasonable that they should fall in love in the near future, after truly knowing each other. It's truly beautiful how SJM is able to weave the plot together, to have multiple stories going on all at once. And I know full well there's going to come a time when all of them converge and tie together. In a fashion that I'm sure will blow my mind. Personally, I adored the new cast of characters. They offered us so much more, in terms of both the people we are following and the storyline. They were all a lot of fun. Some grew on me more than others did, but I enjoyed where each of their storylines went. They all opened up so many different aspects to the overarching story, each promising something new for the future books. Moreover, through having the characters in difference places it meant they were all given an equal amount of attention as the chapters changed from one to the other to keep us in the loop of what was going on. More of Celaena’s past as Aelin is revealed and answers to her origins and why her family was killed come to light. There were a few moments that squeezed my heart so much it hurt when all of the horrors of her past and the guilt she carried came to light. I dare you not to shed a tear.

Most of Celaena’s part in the story is coming to terms with her destiny and who she really is. You can change your name but that doesn’t mean it won’t find you again. She is desperately holding onto the idea that she can escape that name and the burden of rule that comes with it.The trepidation that had developed when reading Crown of Midnight has evaporated. Heir of Fire has left me positive that this series is worth the hype. This one has left me so excited about what comes next. I need to know where the story heads next. I need to know what plays out for the characters. I really cannot put into words all the promise in this book. There really was so much. I know I’m missing out so much of what I want to say in this review – but it was just so good. I want to share each and every feeling, and yet to do so I know I would start getting too specific. It’s too good to go into specifics. You just need to read it, to experience it, and then you will understand. I think the King might find out about Celaena/Aelin in the next book, but as much as I want to see him dead, I don't think he will be AT LEAST until the end of book 5 at the soonest. Actually, she wasn't drinking it. She was looking for it, and when she found it, it was empty (having already been drunk). Shortly thereafter, she gets mistaken for a vagrant . . . This challenge was woven seamlessly into the main plot. And the plot itself was gripping. My favorite moments were near the end, when Celaena faced Mave. I felt like she’d conquered something huge. It was extremely fulfilling.

As I said, there are several new characters in this story, one being Rowan. And I absolutely ADORE his character. I loved every single sarcastic, brooding moment, and boy do I want more of him. In the beginning, he is infuriatingly stubborn and relentless with Caelena, but there's a point where he opens up, and dear Lord, it made me love him even more. He is such a badass character, and the perfect fit for Caelena. While at first I thought he was a potential love interest, I will spoil this for you and tell you flat out that there is nothing but strong friendship between the two. Personally, I thought everything about their relationship was handled perfectly, and Ms. Maas wrote about true friendship; one where the two people would do anything for each other, and see each other through till the very end. My fave new character. I really wish he and Celaena didn't separate at the end of HoF, after all Rowan said that Mala thinks they make a good pair. I totally ship Rowan + Celaena now….but I also feel like this isn't ever going to happen. Maas made it clear several times in the book that Celaena / Rowan only felt platonic love for each other and only have the urge to protect each other because they have the carranam bond. Plus, Rowan's already lost his mate and it's also been said that mating bonds go beyond death. A girl can still hope though ;) As long as this book has MORE ROWAN, I'm satisfied. I wonder if we are still going to have a little bit of his POV, seeing as the duo is separated now. I feel like with every book, Sarah J Maas improves her writing to be ever more meticulous than the preceding installment. Her craft is expanding, and I love absolutely everything about it. Can't wait for the next book and also, her new series, A Court of Thorns and Roses! Parallel stories are another thing that made the plot more interesting and intricate. We have Aelin’s healing arc, Dorian’s magic and Sorscha arc, Aedion and Chaol’s rebellion arc, and finally Manon’s introduction arc.For me, this really was the strongest book so far because it gave so much. Characters. Story. Promises for the future. Development of the fantasy aspect. Compared to the first two books, this was such a strong four star read. The first two books were four stars, but low to mid four stars. Book three, on the other hand, is a strong four star. I was so pulled in, completing it in less time than it took me to finish either of the first two books, finding myself unable to put it down. Everything meant something. Everything worked. It really was wonderful in so many ways. Because Caelena is away from Adarlan for the entire book, we see the story from Dorian, Chaol, and several other new characters' POV. While balancing so many perspectives might overwhelm many authors, Ms. Maas handles it with such a grace and excellence, it truly shows her extreme talent as an author. Chaol has separated himself from Dorian, and he too undergoes a great growth during the story. I loved seeing his side of things, and how he handled everything that was thrown at him. He truly becomes a different person by the end of the story, and I am still rooting that he and Caeleana will come out alright in the end. Dorian finds love in an unexpected place, and I loved watching the romance bloom. It was so sweet and gave a nice light feeling to those scenes in the midst of the heavier nature of the book. It was also nice to see him "moving on" from Caelena. Dorian finds someone he can trust in Chaol's absence, and Dorian changes immensely as well because of this. He truly shows signs of a king in this novel. I think a lot of us can relate to that tendency. I see myself in her ostrich-like avoidance tactics, and I know firsthand that no matter how hard you try not to think about something, there will always be seemingly innocuous things that act as triggers . . . triggers that send you spiraling into the depths of despair, b/c you have refused to deal with the things that lay heavy on your soul. I feel like all of the characters grew in this book. I really love the development that each character got. I feel like you got so much more from this series because of this growth. Poor Chaol is so conflicted on what he should do. What side he should be on. Dorian is trying to live with his magic and learn to control it. With that, he falls for a healer. The healer also helps him maintain his magic.
