Description

It can clean wet spills, dry dust, scrub carpets, and clean upholstery. Essentially it is a 4-in-1 carpet cleaner and vacuum. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned. Henry is the stalwart of this range: tough, durable and easy to use. There may be lighter and sleeker models available, but it is by no means too cumbersome and its impressive storage capacity, means you’ll have plenty of time before you need to change the bags. You can’t deny there’s a bit of a royal theme running through some of the current names, with Henry, Charles, George and James all having ruled the land at one time or another. (Hetty is a shortened Henrietta, the female equivalent of Henry.) Henry is a fixture of homes and offices nationwide. Designed and built in Britain, the quirky vacuums have a reputation for ease of use, effectiveness and durability, with many still going strong after decades of faithful sweeping. That’s no surprise: according to manufacturer Numatic, every Henry is “designed, tested and engineered to last a whopping 25 years”.

Henry is a bagged cylinder vacuum that comes complete with strong suction power and a large dust bag capacity, making him an ideal household vacuum. His iconic appearance helps him to stand out, but Henry also continues to deliver when it comes to cleaning performance. Gantz, Carroll (26 September 2012). The Vacuum Cleaner: A History. McFarland. p.166. ISBN 978-0-7864-9321-0. Have Questions about Henry, Hetty, Charles, George – or any other vacuums? We may already have the answer… What’s the best Henry for my small home or outhouse? Some people prefer the ability to wind the cable in and James allows you to do that. He also has a caddy in which he can nicely store away and attachments. A plugged cable means it is pretty easy to replace the mains cable.

How to choose the right Henry vacuum for you

It’s not nearly as heavy as you would think for all those extras. It isn’t expensive, it doesn’t make much noise. Add to that all the usual benefits of the Henry range such as 9 litre capacity, a sturdy frame and reliable, long-lasting performance and you have the perfect addition for any pet lover’s home. Over the years we’ve seen his family grow rapidly. We’ve since been introduced to Hetty, Charles, George and James, among others. They specialise in all sorts of jobs whether it’s clearing up troublesome pet hair or devouring spilled liquids. George is the model for you if you are looking for an all-in-one device that will clean everything from the cobwebs to the curtains. He has a 15l capacity for dry dirt and mess, and a 9l capacity for wet. He uses a Twin-flo motor for double power and slightly less energy efficiency, but he trades up with a Powerflo pump guaranteed to add suction to any mess. Homecare. From the world-famous Henry to a full range of domestic vacuums for every home application.

The HVR200-11 uses 620W of power, making it one of the more energy efficient models on the market. The motor also provides excellent suction and is highly durable, while the large 9 litre capacity means you won’t need to empty it often. Other features include TriTex filters, HepaFlo bags and a cord-rewind system. A unique aero-brush is great if you have pets in the house. It provides an outstanding level of cleaning with carpets and is the perfect tool for cleaning up pet hairs, as well as those bits of pet food that don’t quite stay in the bowl and other edibles such as cat grass. A hard floor brush means it can continue cleaning on hard floor surfaces while a 10m power cable provides extensive reach. David DVR200 - David is essentially a cheaper Henry HVR200, his toolkit incorporated plastic wands oppose to stainless steel. David DVR200 ran from 1989–1992. In 2019, Erik Matich, a five-year-old fan from Illinois who was being treated for leukaemia, flew 4,000 miles to Somerset with the Make-A-Wish charity. It had been his dream to see Henry’s home [Erik is now doing well and is due to complete his treatment this year]. Duncan says dozens of children with autism have made the same trip. “They seem to relate to Henry because he never tells them what to do,” he says. He has tried to work with autism charities, and recently found an illustrator to help create Henry & Hetty books that the charities could sell (they are not for general sale). In Henry & Hetty’s Dragon Adventure, the dust-busting duo are cleaning a zoo when they discover a dragon enclosure. They fly with a dragon to a castle where a wizard has lost his crystal ball – until some more vacuuming uncovers it. It wouldn’t win awards, but when I read the book to Jake that evening, he is rapt. In addition Henry comes complete with an adaptor which can be used to attach any of the cleaning tools to the end of the hose. This is ideal for when cleaning in a confined space such as a car.Cordless vacuums have become increasingly popular, so it’s no surprise Numatic have a cordless version of the Henry. It has many of the same features as the corded version, but comes with a 36V battery and is one of the few cordless vacs to have a bagged design.

Most of the Henry family members are corded and bagged vacuum cleaners, although in 2017 Numatic released a cordless version of Henry and Hetty, which has a lithium-ion battery. Includes mattress nozzle, crevice nozzle, upholstery nozzle, dusting brush, combination floor nozzle. The Henry with the most versatility is probably the George. It cleans your curtains, cushions, carpets, hard floors, your car, your drains, and probably everything else in your life. Beyond that, the Henry vacuum cleaner range has a pet hair model, a wet/dry model, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The range is versatile within itself. Alas, there is no choice. All of the Henry vacuum cleaners in the range are floor vacuums. That just means that they don’t stand upright, and that they roll around on the floor on wheels. You drag the vacuum along behind you while you use the hose. Best for Storage – would have to be the James, which has the extra compartment to contain the hundred or so tools that comes with it.An additional versatility with the Henry range are the bags. You can use the same set of bags throughout the majority of their machines. The wet and dry, the pet hair, and the larger models all use a one-size-fits-all-capacities bag. It makes it easier to shop. Durability & Reliability Henry Plus HVR200P - The '90s equivalent to the Henry Micro, discontinued in 1999. The name is now used on John Lewis exclusives. Best for Allergies – If you have allergies in the home you need the Micro, closely followed by the Xtra which has enough tools to see you successful. Numerous changes have been made by Numatic to increase Henry’s efficiency, meaning despite the reduced wattage the Henry Hoover power is just as powerful – if not more powerful – than previous versions. Henry also now makes a lot less noise with the low wattage motor much quieter than standard vacuums, and as an added bonus the latest Henry models will also use around half the electricity compared to older versions. The flagship Henry vacuum cleaner does not have a HEPA filter. Most Henrys come with a TriTex or MicroFresh filter. The only vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter from the Numatic’s Henry family is Henry Allergy, which is designed specifically with allergy sufferers in mind. A common question that Numatic gets is can Henry Hoover be used without a bag? Numatic advise not to use the Henry Hoover without bags. Over time if you do use the Henry without bags, you risk damaging the motor which could lead to reduced performance. If you want the no-nonsense design of a Henry vacuum combined with the convenience of cordless, the HVB160 is an option to consider. It’s more expensive than the corded Henry and doesn’t have the longest run-time, but the strong suction and large capacity mean it’s much better suited to heavy cleaning than most cordless models.Hetty smiles just as much as Henry, and in terms of performance is just as able. Hetty has a highly efficient motor, a 10 metre cable and rewind storage system, and comes with a host of useful accessories. Each of the Henry models are detailed below so you can choose which Henry vacuum cleaner suits your needs the best. Henry Himself – The Basics
