About this deal

Each player will then choose a color of penguin to represent them throughout the game. If there are two players, then each player will collect four penguins. If there are three players, then each player will collect three penguins. Finally, if there are four players, they will each collect two penguins. Hey, That’s My Fish! is a wonderful little family friendly game that plays great with 2 or 3. It appears to handle 4, too, but I haven’t tried that yet.

Hey, That's My Fish! continues until all penguins can no longer legally move or they have been removed from the board. Any remaining tiles are returned to the box. King Penguin! The player with the most fish wins the game. If there is a tie, the tied player with the most collected ice floes wins. The biggest problem with the set up is that it is kind of hard to try and evenly distribute the two and three fish tiles. While you could take the time to truly distribute the tiles, that would take way too long so you need to just try to make it as balanced as possible. You need to take enough time distributing the tiles though or one player could end up with a huge advantage. Hey, That’s My Fish! is such a simple yet elegant game to play. The rules are detailed and easy to understand. During set-up you can explain what the rules are, so that you can play in minutes! Who doesn’t want to start a game night with something that can be explained in less than a minute! The game includes 60 hexagonal tiles with 2 or 3 fish printed on each and 16 penguins in 4 different colors and stances.

Object of the Game

While it’s easy to focus on the three-fish ice floes—the highest fish count there is on any of the tiles—there is a possibility that doing so might cause a greedy penguin to be cut off from the larger board. You’ll not only have to do a risk assessment on that penguin’s earning potential, but you’ll also need to reconsider all your penguins when it’s your turn again because your opponent is trying to cut you off from parts of the board as well.

With the random placement of the hex tiles/ice floes at the start of each game, there is no single strategy to winning. Add to that the aforementioned number of possible starting shapes, and you have a game that’s light enough to entertain children while becoming as think-y as you’d like it to be. Bonus points for publishing this game in a box just large enough to hold all the pieces. The game is about penguins trying to catch fish on the Antarctic. The game board is made of connected hexagons, each with one, two or three fish. After the game board has been built, each player chooses a colour and is assigned a number of penguins: four for a two-player game, three for a three-player game, or two for a four-player game. These penguins are then placed onto any vacant hexagon containing one fish. The rules are so simple that a full group of four were taught the rules before turn two of the first game and were penguin strategists extraordinaire by the third! The ice flow tiles are of the same sturdy vinyl effect card as the box so they will stand up to a lot of play without damage. The biggest problem with Hey! That’s My Fish! is the set up time. While the set up only takes a couple of minutes, it is kind of a pain. While the set up is not very complicated it sometimes takes longer than you would expect to set up all of the tiles so they are lined up properly. The tiles need to be lined up properly or it could make things harder later in the game if players can’t figure out which tiles are in line with each other.

The game play is fast and smooth. You lay out the 60 little tiles randomly in alternating rows of 7 and 8. Then you take turns placing penguins (4 each for 2 player, 3 each for 3 player, 2 each for 4 player) on 1-fish hexes. After the penguins are all placed, you take turns moving them. Penguins move, queen-like, as far as they wish in straight lines, stopping only for opposing penguins or voids in the ice. After you move a penguin, you take the hex it had been standing on and add it to your score pile. Ice flows will have from one to three fish on them. Each fish equals one point for the player whose penguin lands on it. A random distribution of all tiles is encouraged, so swap out tiles as necessary to keep any clusters of two or three fish from forming. Hey, That’s My Fish! is a game for 2-4 players from Fantasy Flight Games (FFG). Players take turns using their waddle of penguins to outmanoeuvre their opponents and catch as many fish as they can without being trapped on an ice floe! Shuffle the ice floe tiles facedown. Then, flip them faceup and arrange them into eight rows roughly in the shape of a square. Hey, That’s My Fish! is infinitely replayable. The sixty hexagonal tiles that each display one to three fish are used to randomly construct the board, which will have your penguins traveling a differently shaped path every game. As you hone your strategy with every new map, will the icy shapes lead to your demise or will you claim victory?

The rows must alternate between having seven and eight tiles, with the top row having seven (so four rows of seven alternating with four rows of eight). If all players agree, they may switch tiles around (if necessary) to more evenly distribute the two- and three-fish floes. And penguins get separated from each other and trapped on different bits of the ice, each trying to gather as much fish as possible while using the board-destruction mechanic to isolate the opponent’s penguins on small ice-islands. This is a rare instance where a digital version could be an improvement over the tabletop, and here is why. The “board” is continually changing, as players move their pawns and remove the tiles they claim. An electronic version would eliminate the unwanted shifting in the tiles. The game is designed by Alvydas Jakeliunasand Günter Cornett, and was originally released in 2003. FFG are known for their bigger brand games such as Star Wars: X-Wingand LOTR: Journey to Middle-earth, so it’s not the kind of game you would expect them to publish.Since it was recently re-released by Fantasy Flight, I decided to take a look at the 2005 game Hey! That’s My Fish! In Hey! That’s My Fish! you play as a group of penguins that are trying to hoard all of the fish for themselves instead of sharing them with the other penguins. Those greedy little penguins. Despite appearing to be simple, Hey! That’s My Fish has a lot more strategy hiding beneath the surface than you would expect.

When none of the penguins are in play any more, the game ends. The player who has collected the most fish from his/her hexagons wins. My only real criticism of the tabletop version of Hey, That’s My Fish was managing the ever shifting hexagon tiles that make up the board. The Android app solves that problem beautifully. There is no setup or cleanup time, and there are many options to keep things fun. One to four human players can play against each other, provided they share a device, or play a computer opponent. The program is quite intuitive, and the rules and goals of the game are clear.I admit that it can be a bit fiddly trying to get the ice floe tiles from the centre of the board, however it’s easy to fix if you mess it up a little whilst taking your starting tile. Hey, That's My Fish! is such a simple yet elegant game to play. The rules are detailed and easy to understand. During set-up you can explain what the rules are, so that you can play in minutes! The player who has collected the most fish by the end of the game wins. Joy of joys, this is no longer the case! Pure digital toothyness awaits for a fantastically low price.
