About this deal

I too asked myself, "What happened?" I loved the book and felt that she was very true to how people with Asperger's act and think. However, I felt like she left a gap in the story line. The government and the FDA insist vaccines are safe. According to the CDC, if every American child followed the recommended vaccine protocol, 33,000 lives would be saved, 14 million infections prevented, and ten billion dollars would be cut from healthcare costs annually. There has not been a single study conclusively proving a link between vaccines and autism. And 95% of all kids sail through their shots with no side effects.

I set Sasha down inside the threshold. “Thanks,” I mouth to Mrs. Whitbury, and I turn to leave, already mentally mapping out the fastest route to the crime scene. Don't expect much from the "mystery" itself. If you've read a few Picoult books, you probably do like I do---scoff at the implausibilities and the truly lame stuff, but devour them all the same. The woman can write! I complain a lot about present tense writing, but Picoult is one of the few who can do it so well that I barely even notice it. Some parents of kids on the autism spectrum believe that there is a link between vaccines and autism. Of the parents I met, about 50% believed in that link, and 50% did not.

Henry plays a significant role in the novel, even if he didn’t play a significant role in Jacob and Theo’s lives prior to the trial. Yet despite his importance, the author does not grant him the opportunity to narrate a single chapter from his point of view. Why do you think this is?

I remember very well the first time I met my cousin David. He had just been adopted by my aunt and he was the most beautiful baby I’d ever seen – with dark eyes and olive skin and a bright gaze that followed me as I walked around his baby seat. But by the time David was a toddler, we knew that he wasn’t an ordinary kid. He was diagnosed on the autism spectrum, and that was the beginning of a comprehensive change in my aunt Nancy’s life.Talk to your son, for crying out loud! You know he can only tell the truth and once he tells you he didn't kill her, why wouldn't you ask for more details? He's on trial for murder!" Number 3: Choose flu vaccines without thimerosal. They are available, if a parent knows to ask for it. The amount of mercury in one shot is miniscule, but scientists don’t know how long it stays in a child’s brain, or if accumulates over time. Jacob’s meltdown give the reader many clues into what Emma’s like is like taking care of Jacob. What does it tell us about Emma and her personality? In the bedroom where I’m standing, there’s a whole wall of shelves filled with electronic games. Wii and Xbox, mostly, with a few Nintendo DS tossed in for good measure. We don’t have any gaming systems; we can’t afford them. The crap Jacob has to take at breakfast – a whole extra meal of pills and shots and supplements – costs a fortune, and I know that my mother stays up nights sometimes doing freelance editing jobs just so that she can pay Jess, Jacob’s social skills tutor.
