About this deal

Quinton de Haas and Oakley Reed have hated each other from the jump. They’re rivals. They’re enemies. They’re also teammates. But everyone knows that love and hate are two sides of the same coin. Conflicted what to rate this because I loved Holden and Phoenix. Couldn't for the life of me stand Kason and how the story dragged out Phoenix coming clean about everything 😩

yeah, this series is not for me. I’m not connecting with any of the characters. While the sex in this book is hot, I just never felt the emotional connection between Phoenix and Holden. Additionally, I was constantly waiting for Kason to find out…because this really was a love triangle. And it’s kind of the worst because Phoenix and Kason weren’t just best friends, they viewed each other as brothers. I will say, I really liked the reveal at the climax, I liked the way Oakley was not let off the hook for what he'd done, because that had been bothering me since the beginning. I liked how hard he had to work for it, how much he longed and yearned for Quinn because I think Quinn really deserved it, and I liked those last few chapters. I liked the writing style, which is one of the reasons why I finished the book in basically one sitting. But there were a few sentences that, shall I say, were questionable to me. The example: Quinton and Oakley gave me home feelings that a book hasn’t given me in a really long time. That when it was over I wanted five more minutes. But the writing and telling of their story was so cohesive and flowed so well that when it was over I couldn’t be sad because it felt like absolutely nothing had been left out. Sometimes you leave a story, even a really good one, feeling like maybe something was glossed over that needed more or you have a question that kind of lingers. This wasn’t one of those times, everything pulled together and I as a reader was left wanting for nothing. At the end of the day I could feel like these two had a real shot because I was privy to it all. I liked these idiots, Oak & Quinn. With these two not liking each other as much as they did, I really appreciated the superstition approach by the author a lot to get them down and dirty early despite their animosities. How they taunted each other into this was pretty hilarious… and hot. And they really had some super sweet moments.

Customer reviews

Collage sports romance is my absolute favourite to read right now, and damn was I obsessed right from the prologue. This story was more on the fun side with some light angst (like none for me), I loved the banter between these two I just had a smile on my face the whole time.

And I truly hope that one day, we’ll get this fully inclusive and accepting vibe in sports, because there wasn’t an ounce of homophobia in this book, internalised or otherwise 👍🏻 About this weird love triangle, or whatever it was. It might be me, but I thought it would be done a little differently. If you don't have a problem or like, when the love interest tries to date/ hook up (no exclusively) with the other MCs bestie, calls him handsome, goes on a date, s*x-texts with him, kisses him or the bestie him and dances in everyone knows what way with him, you will probably like it. It ends with Holden catching feelings for Phoenix in the middle of the book, but everything I mentioned happens. So be aware, if you don't like it. It started off… ok. Not too taxing, but a bit bland. The enemies trope felt a bit forced tbh, seeing as Quinton (the straight guy in this equation) only needed like 1 minute to fall on his knees for Oak (the gay part of the equation). After that, it took him around 0.2 secs to accept that he is, in fact, bi, and to start chasing (and falling for) Oak, who proved to be the reluctant one here. I must add too, that I finished the book because I obviously liked too, in no way is this book horrible or 🚮. It can be fun and the chemistry between the mains was good too, an easy read to kill boredom.Next rule,” I grind out, rather than letting him bait me into retaliation. “No one can know about this. Especially not Coach or the team.” You have to stop looking at me like that.” My eyes follow the lines and planes of his face as I murmur, “I wish I knew how.” This book is wonderful. I truly couldn't stop reading it! I was wondering if I should read this or Don't You Dare first and it was Ki Stephens who told me this one was better. So, I obviously got it. Thanks to Ki for telling me because I would have not experienced this book otherwise. And oh boy, would I have been missing out HARD. I am excited to read book 2. I know my boy Holden is gonna be involved in some love shenanigans, so looking forward to it!
