About this deal

There are only a couple of criticisms that I can raise that is in the Rig Talk chapter Terry doesn’t detail his bait ingredients. I know he mentions his favourite chocolate malt flavoured birdfood boilies and his deadly monster pursuit baits but we mere mortals want to emulate Terry and if he gave us the precise details of flavours and their inclusion levels we could get a bit closer. One key mechanism that has undergone a revision under Fit for 55 is the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS ). The ETS sets a cap on overall emissions for certain sectors and then allocates credits totaling this amount, the credits can then be traded within the industry to reward low-emitters and increase costs for polluters. Over time the total emissions budget reduces incrementally, driving down overall emissions. The ETS previously covered roughly 40% of total emissions in the EU, the revised version increased this share with the inclusion of additional sectors such as maritime, as well as a new ETS for transport and buildings from 2026. The emission reduction obligation for ETS sectors has also increased from 40% to 61% by 2030 based on 2005 levels, as well as the phasing out of free allowances in aviation from 2023 – 2025. Before I go into detail reviewing the book, I would just like to point out how remarkable Terry’s achievements are. Despite still being in his twenties, Terry has captured eight English carp over forty pounds, a truly amazing feat. I have never met Terry and can only dream of fishing the waters and catching the fish he does, but through his book I feel so much closer to fishing those waters and catching that elusive forty. Also included are tales and footage from Oxfordshire's Big S, the Test Valley's Nutsey, The Big Pit, The Lea Valleys Relief Channel, Sonning Eye, Linch Hill's Christchurch, Longfield's Road Lake, and of course, the mighty Burghfield, near Reading, home to one of the most prized and elusive commons in the country. All that and more; well over three hours of precious archive footage for the price of a round of drinks...that's got to be good value.

Before I re-read the book I had an impression in my mind that the guest chapters were a bit weak and detracted from the rest of the book. However, on re-reading them I can safely say that they’re fine, although a couple are on the short side or perhaps not as well written as the rest of the book. I particularly enjoyed the chapters from Paul Forward and Lewis Read. I was gripped by Lewis’s story as his time to capture the biggie slowly ran out. Although, I’m sure I’m not spoiling the story but letting you know he triumphs just in time. Finally, Ms. Mohamed called for “sustained and predictable funding” to prevent and counter terrorism. There are only a few rigs mentioned but as Terry only uses a few simple rigs then that is to be expected. Perhaps a little more detail wouldn’t go amiss and now Terry has developed his own range of accessories through the ESP range he might be in a better position to reveal all. Terry always seems to pin down his mainline out of harms way to prevent spooking carp. I know it’s obvious why but perhaps maybe he could have revealed why he is so insistent on the practice, has he seen just to many carp spooking? Outlining five suggestions to advance counter-terrorism efforts in Africa, Ms. Mohammed reminded that “ prevention remains our best response”.After dropping four markers at varying depths and varying ranges, recording everything in the log, it was time to bang in a bit of bait. Bait was Mainline Grange Red, Maize and a Mainline Hemp Pellets, a very inviting combination. I did have 25 lbs of chopped tigers sent to Romania too, however they failed to get there for one reason or another. Make do with the Maize Chris, I had no other choice ! Undeterred, I put in 3 kilos of the above mix in around every marker to start with. It was hard fishing, or at least getting amongst the bigger residents was hard, and I can honestly say that I worked like a Trojan the whole time. It was a very tired Chris who got to the hotel, I can tell you. Myself and Joe Goldson from Liverpool teamed up together, and opted to fish an area in the main body of water to the left of the hotel known as the ‘Gypsy Village’. My thanks to a couple of the ‘regulars’ who had fished this area in the past, they offered some handy advice on features to look out for. From here we could cover a huge amount of water, with the plan being to move after three nights if we didn’t manage to get amongst some decent fish. We had a huge area of water in front of us, this had to be a good choice. I loved reading every single word of it and it made me feel as though I was part of the big carp scene and could catch a record beater even though I never fish the big carp waters and there aren’t that many big fish up north! I’m in absolute awe of Terry’s achievements. He’s the Alan Shearer of the fishing world and is (if not already) becoming an angling icon that youngsters look up to.

If well executed, transcending a traditional silo-specific approach to drive decarbonisation from an integrated perspective could help to amplify the scope of each individual measure, creating an ‘eco-system’ of mutually reinforcing climate policies. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how effective this approach will be in practice, and there is certainly scope for the interdependencies of the policies to manifest in challenges and failures. I was truly gripped by both Terry’s knowledge and passion for carp fishing and by the way he expressed his captures. I have now decided to add wanting to spend a days fishing with Terry Hearn, so I can witness the master in action, to my list of ambitions of playing for Preston North End (that’s well and truly gone), running the London Marathon and owning a house with a lake. In fact, spending a days fishing with Terry will probably be the easiest of the four to achieve, however hard it is! From economic deprivation to organized crime and governance challenges, “the magnitude of the problem calls for bold investment”, she told ambassadors. And being so influenced by Terry’s methods of concentrating on location and pinpoint bait placement I spent most of my next session up a tree doing my monkey impressions while observing the carp’s behaviour below. I even bagged a common using the Terry Hearn Stiff Rig but that’s another story and probably another review……… Home of the world record Mirror at over 82 lbs, home for one the biggest Commons known on earth (in fact the biggest carp caught in 2001) at over 73 lbs, lots of fifties, sixties …need I go on ?? I had to have some of that !!

in pursuit of (someone or something)

For a holistic, comprehensive approach, the deputy UN chief cited the New Agenda for Peace – part of the Our Common Agenda report. In closing, the Deputy Secretary-General welcomed the planned October 2023 Summit on counterterrorism in Africa as an opportunity to consider ways to strengthen the UN’s efforts across the continent overall. For those of you that think Raduta is ‘easy’, think again, many many people who go blank. We worked very hard for every fish banked. Thanks to everyone out there who helped with info, you know who you are guys !!

Perhaps In Pursuit Of The Largest is more suited to the modern day carp angler, who is boilie, buzzer, bolt rig and bivvy oriented and who has a knowledge of the circuit waters, than to your Chris Yates type carp angler, but nevertheless the book is a fantastic read for all. In Pursuit of the Largest, 'the DVD', a collection of carp fishing clips filmed between 1996 and 2009. No wind as such to speak of, and with forecast temperatures of as low as zero at night and over thirty degrees centigrade in the day, conditions were not carpy. In fact, they were damn right uncarpy, way too hot and the water subsequently like a millpond virtually every day. The stakeholder consultation for the revised ESR revealed concerns that moving sectors from ESR to ETS would fail to support solutions to non-market challenges as well as potentially reduce pressure at the national level to drive emission reductions. Within this context, FSR supports the European Commission’s approach to leveraging the complementarity of different mechanisms to maximise emission reductions by covering key sectors under both ESR and ETS. Moreover, the FSR encourages the EU to continue pushing for climate accountability through its’ enforcement powers to ensure compliance with new ambitious targets.

One legislative amendment that has been attracting considerable interest in recent months is the Renewable Energy Directive ( RED ). The RED sets a target for the level of renewable energy in the overall EU energy mix, as well as defining which energy sources can be considered ‘renewable’ and therefore contribute to the target. The previous RED set a target of 32% renewable energy by 2030, under the Fit for 55 amendments this share has increased to 40%. The fact that this guy is prepared to strip off and wade in to look at something that might not even be a fish shows his commitment to the pursuit of specimen fish! The skyline beyond the northern suburbs of Mogadishu is seen through a bullet hole in the window of a hotel in Somalia. First job, after we’d been dropped off by boat at the swim, was to get out with the echo sounder and see what we had in front of us. With a mile of bank space for just Joe and I, there was a lot of rowing to be done !! I found a very sexy plateau, ranging in depth from 10 feet at it’s edge dropping sharply to 27 feet. Very carpy, just had to be the spot. During the course of the second week, the average size was still creeping up, with many thirties to 37.5 lbs and two more forties. This included a Common of 42 lbs and a Mirror of just under 44 lbs.
