About this deal

My best explanation for how I forgot to mention the weight of the Box Jades until now is that it is something I never needed to adapt to. With some of the other switches I could feel their heaviness and needed to adapt a little to it, but I cannot recall needing to do so for these. I quite possibly still did, but also found them comfortable to type on from the beginning and am interested in tactile switches that may offer sharp tactility as well. Kailh Box Jades are the current industry standard for mechanical keyboard switches. However, there are alternatives to Kailh Box Jade switches that may be a better fit for your needs. It is possible to get a Kailh switch tester, so you can test out several different Kailh switches on your hot-swap keyboard.

With Kailh Box Jade switches, this keyboard provides speed, responsiveness, and durability all in a small form factor. The Box White is a linear switch with a light actuation force and a smooth, linear travel. It’s a great switch for gaming and typing. Plus, you can’t really lubricate this type of switch as there is a hole in the bottom of the housing where it can leak out. Coming in marginally less wobbly than that of previous Kailh Box switch iterations, these have a potentially noticeable but likely unproblematic amount of N/S and E/W stem wobble for the vast majority of users out there. Signature winglatch housings also quash all top housing budge. Sound

To date, I have not devised a good way to effectively measure the stems nor housings of Box style switches in the same way that I do for normal, MX-style stems and switches. Additionally, the fact that the measurement sheet also doubles as a means by which someone can effectively test frankenswitching combinations between stems and top housings to estimate wobble without actually having to try the switches first kind of kills the inclusion of the Kailh Box Muted Jades as Box style stems are incompatible with traditional MX style housings. Additionally, it’s worth noting that even on their own, there are a few design details which makes Box switch stems hard to measure in the same fashion, such as: So I must apologize ahead of time, even though I planned on making this post I completely forgot to take any pictures, but without further ado let's get on with the "review." Kailh Box Jade Switches are a new switch brand that is making a big name for itself in the keyboard community. Kailh Box switches are known for their quiet and smooth operation, as well as their long lifespan.

One rather subtle point that I do want to note, though, is that there is a pretty noticeable spread in sound of these switches across the batch that I received from Novelkeys. While the vast majority have a sound in the significantly dulled range that I described above in the previous paragraph, approximately 20-30% of the switches in my batch actually had a bit sharper of a sound to them even through the dampening. These switches with issues, though, interestingly sounded much more reminiscent of that of actual Box Jade switches, carrying slightly sharper and higher pitched tones. With even these slightly sharper variants having their own range in sharpness as well, it does point to perhaps some systemic manufacturing issues leading to a pretty wide degree of variability in the Mute Box Jade switches. As funny as it may be, though, to some degree I actually personally prefer these minority ‘variant’ switches a bit more as they sound much more like what I would think of as a “muted Jade” switch than what appears to be the actual intended product. Wobble The feel of Kailh Box Jade switches is also quite unique. They have a very heavy spring pressure, which makes them a bit difficult to press at first. However, this provides a very tactile sensation that some users enjoy. Typing experience Kailh is a company based out of China, so they are able to produce switches at a very low cost and undercut brands such as Cherry MX who are based out of Germany. Kailh Box Jade Switches are a brand of keyboard switch that originated in China. The company was founded in 2004, and originally produced Cherry MX clones. Kailh Box Jade Switches are now a subsidiary of Kailh, which also produces Cherry MX switches. In terms of stem wobble, these two switches are also surprisingly close to one another, both slightly edging out previous Kailh Box switches designs by a thin margin. The important feature is the linear increase from 2.5 to 3.6 mm. From that we can obtain the spring constant by dividing the total length of the spring from its bottom out force. It's important to note that 0 travel distance is a misnomer, because the spring has already been compressed in the spring housing. (And as an aside, progressive or complex springs aren't real. Springs will always have a linear force response, and it's impossible for a spring to have any other sort force vs compression relationship.) Cherry MX Blues are considered the standard for gaming keyboards. They offer a slightly slower keypress than Kailh Box Jade Switches, but many people find this to be an advantage because it makes it easier to avoid accidental key presses. If there is any liquid or food residue on the switch, use a gentle cleaning solution (such as isopropyl alcohol) to clean it off. Be sure to dry the switch off thoroughly afterwards. As we mentioned earlier, we have foundno relationship between a shorter actuation distance and a faster reaction time.

I made another change to my procedure by having another period of time at the end when I am speaking and typing at the same time. The reason is because I had observed RNNoise was able to remove fan noise while I was speaking when I was first testing it for my recordings, however long ago. I wanted to discover if it would be able to remove the sound of the Box Jades like it did the fan noise, which seemed like the fan was not there (something I will certainly enjoy in the Summer months). First though I want to share the results of the first sound tests, from shortly after I installed the switches. As usual I have uploaded the audio files to GitHub so they can be viewed: Custom-Keyboard-Files/@Switches/Kailh Box Jade/NK65. Kailh Speed switches are perfect for those who don’t like linear switches, but still want a competitive advantage when gaming. Kailh switches are generally known to be scratchy, which makes them not the best for those who like tactile or linear switches. Also, it's important to note that the 1.5mm value is the distance the Jade switch travels, not the compression of the spring. I.e., because the two box springs are different lengths, they actuate at different compression lengths. Therefore, rather than multiplying 1.5mm by the spring constant, we need to multiply the total length of the spring minus (the total travel length minus actuation length).

Review:

Kailh Box Jade switches are used in a variety of mechanical keyboards, including gaming keyboards and enthusiast keyboards. Conclusion The BOX Silent switches also have a strange stem design. Instead of the typical BOX shape, they are circular. They are PCB-mounted switches, which means that they can be used with any type of mechanical keyboard (without clipping).

The Kailh Box Mute Jades are better than the Gateron Ink Blue V2 switches with respect to stem wobble in both the N/S and E/W directions. Kailh Pro Light GreenI have been using Kailh Box Jade switches for a while now and I have to say, I love them! They are so smooth and responsive, making typing a joy. I never have to worry about missed keystrokes or accidental key presses with these switches. If you’re looking for a gaming keyboard that offers the best possible experience, Kailh Box Jade Switches are the way to go. Alternatives to the Kailh Box Jades
