About this deal

Not even the Space Marines are safe from the lure of Chaos. Whether they hail from the dark days of the Horus Heresy or turned traitor more recently, these baleful warriors combine their gene-given gifts with dark blessings and malefic sorceries, transformed by years of battle into fearless, superhuman reavers. The operative would still count as performing the action for all rules purposes. For example, if it performed it during its activation, it would not be able to perform the action again during that activation.

Speed is nothing without power, but She Who Thirsts can help you there too! Turn your operatives into graceful killers with the appropriately titled Strategic Ploy, Graceful Killer. Roster Size – Since blessings are chosen at roster creation players will have to make a choice on what to leave at home. For many Kill Teams the Roster mechanic is often irrelevant, which is unfortunately not the case for Legionnaires. Frag [2 EP] and Krak Grenade [3 EP] – Not much to say here. Almost everyone has access to them, and there is a reason they got limited to one per team each. B+ Mission actions are specific to the mission you are playing, and will be detailed by that mission’s briefing. Missions can be found here (Open Play mission) and here (Spec Ops Narrative missions). The main decision a player must make when creating their roster is which Chaos Blessings they will take on which operatives. In effect there are four blessing combinations you may take on your roster: Khorne/Nurgle, Khorne/Tzeentch, Slaanesh/Nurgle, and Slaanesh/Tzeentch. All of these have their Pros and Cons, and if you’re attending larger events it helps to take a look at what teams one is likely to encounter. In general your roster is likely to contain two of each specialist, one for each God associated blessing, with remaining spots given over to either an Undivided Leader or Icon-Bearer, and additional Gunner options.Play the Hateful Assault Strategic Ploy to Fight twice and eviscerate anybody standing next to your unfortunate victim. And even if there’s a crowd of targets around the Butcher, his Devastating Onslaught ability forces each enemy operative to Fight without the support of their comrades. You can’t very well conduct clandestine missions without a suitable killzone to squabble over (and hide you from enemy fire). Killzone Chalnath has got you covered – it contains five substantial ruined walls, two chunky ruined buildings, and a double-sided game board. Blood for the Blood God – +1 Damage on the first strike in each Fight action if the model has performed a Charge action during it’s activation. This is similar to ploys in the Compendium for the Tyranids and Harlequins and is great for trying to punch out enemies by resolving the first hit of a Fight. Do some maths in your head before using it though.

In the above section we briefly covered the five keywords associated with the various blessings available to a Legionary Team. Each of these keywords, other than UNDIVIDED, excludes another from your roster meaning you can never have more than three types of blessing within your roster or team. Despite these limitations the Legionary players still has many interesting combinations they may choose from. It is also important to note that the Blessing you choose to give your operative will also determine which ploys they will have access to. Unending Bloodshed – A chance to land a single strike on your opponent after an operative dies in combat. While this one has the potential to be powerful the requirement that you must still land the hit makes it inherently unreliable, so if you are going to use it ensure you have remaining CP for a re-roll, or you have it on an operative that comes with in-built re-rolls such as The Butcher. C+ The inexorable and relentless nature of Nurgle’s followers is represented by the Implacable Strategic Ploy. Thanks to their blessings Legionnaires have the largest list of ploys of any Kill Team as each blessing receives two strategic ploys and one tactical ploy, while there are three generalist ploys available to any type of operative. It is worth pointing out that Undivided blessings do not receive any specific ploys, and that if your team was composed entirely of Undivided operatives you would only have three ploys to draw upon. Strategic PloysThis savage and relentless warband encompasses a diverse array of lethal champions. Included among the ranks are the esteemed Aspiring Champion, along with nine other Legionaries eagerly awaiting their chance to unleash devastation upon their foes. Each individual can be meticulously customized, allowing you to equip them with an assortment of weaponry, choose distinctive heads, and adorn them with various accessories. In addition, these miniatures offer the opportunity to assemble specialist characters tailored for your Kill Team’s unique strategy, including the enigmatic Balefire Acolyte, the vicious Shrivetalon, the ruthless Butcher, and many more intriguing options to explore. What’s in the Kill Team: Legionaries box Now it’s time to focus on the unique details of your Legionaries. Use different colors to bring out specific elements. For example, paint the red cape’s by using Mephiston Red. Apply thin layers to gradually build up the color and ensure smooth coverage. Similarly, use a vibrant green shade like Moot Green to highlight the magical details.Take your time and use a smaller brush for precision.

This all-but ensures at least one critical hit, doing a chunky 8 damage, enough to crush those pesky Corsairs in one swing. The axe also carries the Reap 2 ability, so those critical hits will inflict 2 mortal wounds on anything foolish enough to be standing nearby. Meet one of the most famous followers of Slaanesh, Lucius the Eternal , in Lucius: The Faultless Blade .

Requisitions

Unending Bloodshed – the Khorne ploy that lets you get a final jab in against an operative in Engagement range if your operative dies in melee. A nice little chance to get a final skull when your operative is going to meet Khorne in person. The dependable standard Chaos Marine with either a bolter or a bolt pistol and chainsword. Given the other options you won’t be seeing this guy a lot in competitive, but he’s always been a cut above his Compendium loyalist equivalent, and gaining a mark of chaos makes him even better. Legionary Gunner

Where they will be competitively we will have to see; potentially they are strong, but I’d like to see how they perform against Control teams like GSC or Veteran Guard, or the general horribleness of Tau (though chainsawing through them does seem to be the way to go).

Weaknesses

Malicious Volleys and Hateful Assault – These are your standard Marine ploys that allow them to Shoot twice if they don’t Fight and vice versa. The usefulness of these two ploys coupled with how CP hungry this team is rewards players for taking either an Undivided Leader or Icon-Bearer. Inspect your Legionary models for any imperfections and smooth out rough edges or mold lines using fine-grit sandpaper or a hobby knife. Clean the models with warm, soapy water to remove any residue or oils. Deadly – Operatives live up to what you’d expect out of champions of Chaos with every specialist having very deadly and flavorful abilities.
