About this deal

The Demonata is the second full-length Dark Fantasy / Horror series by Irish author Darren Shan. Unlike The Saga, this series has three narrators, with different books told from different perspectives. Then he plays this really mean prank on his sister, Gret. I guess I could never have imagined that kind of prank if I had not read this. And gets grounded for 30 days. Dervish, who I always imagined as the elderly Clint Eastwood, hard and callused but still ready for action, alternately serious and joking depending on what’s going on (and who he’s with). The first quarter was pretty gross. The protagonist, Grubbs Grady is a spoiled kid(or so I think) is caught smoking. His mom is furious- blah...blah...blah.... He gets off. Start reading this book prepared! This series contains a lot of death, violence and gore! I am not a fan of tragedy(or gore) and I avoid it like it's a plague but I did enjoy reading this series without having my spirit crushed out of me.(I haven't read the last book yet!)

I also seem to recall that Lord Loss’ favorite chess set was one in the style of The Lord of the Rings. Do you think it's clever? Filling your lungs with rubbish, killing yourself? We didn't bring you up to watch you give yourself cancer! We don't need this, certainly not at this time, not when - " Death's Shadow (Six months after Demon Apocalypse and roughly parallel to Wolf Island and Dark Calling) The Quincy Punk: Dervish was this in his teenage years during the 70s, complete with a spiked purple Mohawk, leather clothing, chains and piercings. b. I’m a girl. I know that shouldn’t have much to do with it, but I guess this kind of series appeals more to guys than girls, and as I’ve said, my brother and his friends were more enthusiastic about The Demonata than I was. I couldn’t really get what made some scenes more awesome than others – I could only cringe at some of the more graphical paragraphs describing demons and humans being eaten/impaled/ripped apart. I could at least laugh at all the right parts. I think it really all narrows down to taste – on first sight this wouldn’t be the kind of series I would’ve chosen to read voluntarily.I like the idea of a few grey hairs, not a whole head of them like Dad, just a few. And spread out - I don't want a skunk patch! I'm big for my age - taller than most of my friends - and burly. I don't look old, but if I had a few grey hairs, I might be able to pass for an adult in poor light - bluff my way into 18-rated movies! Eating breakfast at the kitchen table. Radio turned down low. Listening to the noises upstairs. Trying not to giggle. Waiting for the outburst.

I don't catch the rest of the insult - Gret flies down the stairs ahead of it. She drops her towel on the way. I don't have time to react to that before she's on me, slapping and scratching at my face. I edge closer to Mum and Dad's room. I've known all along that this is where they must be. Delaying the moment of truth. Gret likes to call me a coward when she wants to hurt me. Big as I am, I've always gone out of my way to avoid fights. I used to think (fear) she might be right. Each step I take towards my parents' bedroom proves to my surprise that she was wrong. The landing. Not as cold as downstairs. I try my bedroom, then Gret's. Empty. Very warm. The chess pieces on Gret's board are also missing. Mine haven't been taken, but they lie scattered on the floor and my board has been smashed to splinters.

Keep in touch

Lord Loss is the first novel in The Demonata series by best-selling teenage horror author Darren Shan. It was originally published in the UK on June 6, 2005. Soon after, it appeared in Japan and America, where Shan's previous series, The Saga of Darren Shan, had sold especially well. Set in Ireland. It is told in first person through Grubbs Grady, and in present tense. The universe that Darren created is also something that I am particularly fond of. There’s an entire ruleset for how magic works, who can do it and what they can do. There are different types of magic users and a hierarchy to the demonic lands that adds a great deal of depth to the overall story. Later on, there’s even a universe origin story that is actually quite clever. There’s as much depth to the mythology and the lore as there is to the characters, and that makes Lord Loss a very enjoyable read. And Lord Loss, the evil-but-not-intentionally-bad demon crime boss who feeds off of humanity’s sorrow, pain and suffering, and who more than anything enjoys a good game of chess, mankind’s only worthwhile invention in his opinion.
