About this deal

It also does have spice, though it’s brief and not massively descriptive. This is probably one you could get away with reading in public without a tell tale blush. Joyous, funny and full of warm, relatable characters, this is the queer Christmas rom-com I've been waiting for' LAURA KAY When eleven year old Addie learns about the witch trials in Scotland and recognises the similarities with the plight of autistic and different women now, she campaigns for a memorial to their deaths. Beautiful moments between two autistic siblings.

Joyous, funny and full of warm, relatable characters, this is the queer Christmas rom-com I’ve been waiting for’ LAURA KAY Make You Mine This Christmas is described by the publisher as "a brilliantly funny and utterly swoon-worthy rom-com loaded with fake dating hijinks and jaw-dropping drama". A very clear book on approaching positivity and good mental health. Includes lots of helpful exercises and covers topics such as coping, cultivating positive emotions and wellbeing. Not a deep book on mental health but good habits to use day to day. They are the editor of Stim, an anthology of autistic authors and artists, which was published by Unbound in April 2020 to coincide with World Autism Awareness Week. They are also the author of the children’s biography Sir David Attenborough: A Life Story (2020) and a contributor to the anthology Allies: Real Talk About Showing Up, Screwing Up, And Trying Again (2021).

Perfect for fans of Sarah Morgan, Laura Kay and Carol - this is sheer festive joy as you've always wanted to see it. Okay so this didn’t make me laugh but it did make me cry! Oof, the low moment really got me in the feels. I felt awful for Haf and wanted to wrap her up in a blanket and give her a hug. Despite the fact that Christmas is well over, this book still had such a cozy, warm and sweet energy about it, that reading it during the winter months still gave me incredible joy (also accompanied by the fact that I have a ton of snow outside my window as of this moment). First off, Haf reminded me so damn bad of my best friend, so I felt like I had an instantaneous connection with her. Her quirky and sometimes a little chaotic nature just felt fun and comforting, and perfect for this novel. Entering the Calloways, with shy and reserved Christopher, strong and independent Kit, as well as their parents who are as lovely on their own. The finishing touches to this unexpected troupe make Christopher's ex-GF Laurel, and Haf's BFF Ambrose (they are THE queer icon). Combine all these personalities for a chaotic, sweet, never-to-be-forgotten Christmas celebration filled with just the tiniest ;) bit of miscommunication and what do you get? This banger of a seasonal romance filled with queerness left and right that absolutely fills your heart to the brim ... or at least it did mine! Again, festivities set aside, this book was absolutely adorable, and I'll gladly read from this author again! Chaotic Eve receives an ultimatum from her parents — prove you can keep a job for a year. Determined, Eve drives off and finds herself in the Lake District town of Skybriar interviewing for the chef at a B&B, owned by Jacob Wayne. Jacob is cool, precise, sharp and is absolutely not going to let Eve take the job, until his best friend Mont points out she’s his only hope. But then things go from bad to worse when Eve runs him over. Determined to fix everything, Eve gets to work. Chouette is a dark, engrossing modern fable about mothering an unusual child who doesn't act or look like the others. Tiny dreams of her owl-lover, and then the next morning finds herself pregnant with an owl-baby. When Chouette is born, no one else seems to understand her. Visceral prose exploring motherhood and maternal love, difference and disability, queerness, filled with visceral gut splitting prose. While the owl-ness is not specifically an allegory for disability, much of the way others react to Chouette and Tiny is— the horror and fear of the other, the pressure to conform. BookTrust “Inspired by the legends of King Arthur, this is a magical adventure with a memorable heroine.” I loved this!! I would love to see a movie adaptation for this because it would just be the perfect Christmas movie.

Why Kit and Haf feel the need to pretend they’ve never crossed paths before I’m not sure but it definitely adds tension so I’ll take it. To be fair, that’s only one of the things that don’t make sense. Why does Haf act like she’s cheating on Christopher? Why doesn’t she talk to him? The fake relationship thing is only supposed to last for a week or so, she wouldn’t be betraying him. A lot of the drama is Haf’s doing or thinking. However, I didn’t mind. I was having way too much fun to care and it fits the character anyway. Haf is unhinged and exhausting and wonderful.

The Guide to Good Mental Health on the Autism Spectrum by Jeanette Purkis, Dr. Emma Goodall and Dr. Jane Nugent Holly stands out — for being poor, for being weird and for having the wrong clothes. Her one safe place is the pool, away from her troubled mother, their cramped house and the memories of the family they once had. When beautiful Ed keeps showing up to speak to her, Holly is faced with an opportunity to fall in love and to save someone who is slowly drowning too. Somewhere between a short novella and a graphic novel style what-diagnosis-is-like help book, this story follows M as she gets her autism diagnosis. Recommended for autistic children going through the diagnostic process. Autistic main character & own voices. It’s a classic in fake-romance novels: either the MC falls in love with the person they’re faking the romance with or they fall for their sister. Like in Kiss Her Once For Me by Alison Cochrun ( one of my favourite audiobooks), Haf meets the woman who will capture her heart in a bookstore but in this instance, nothing happens then beyond a little flirting over Carol. A few hours later, they meet again at Kit’s parents’ house in the Cotswolds for Christmas. Officially, Haf is Kit’s brother Christopher’s girlfriend of a few months. In reality, they’ve met only once before and shared the worst but funniest drunken kiss of their lives. Christopher’s ex assumed Haf is his new girlfriend and they both rolled with it, each for their own reasons. Which lands them, and Haf especially, in all sorts of conundrums. But Haf doesn't have better holiday plans and to save her new friend from embarrassment, she agrees to pretend to be Christopher's girlfriend for Christmas. It has the makings of a hilarious anecdote they'll be telling for years. Until Haf meets Christopher's sister: the mysterious, magnetic and utterly irresistible Kit. When Haf is seen kissing Christopher under the mistletoe at a party, she agrees to pretend to be his girlfriend for the holidays – only for their plans to be complicated by the fact she’s falling for his sister.
