About this deal

Want to escape the biting winds and short dark days of autumn and spring in the Northern Hemisphere? Sa Calobra enjoys a getting-on-for-mythical status amongst British road cyclists. We seem to have adopted it as our own, despite the little slice of Britain it occupies being claimed first by the Spanish.

I managed, with a few wrong turns and illegal rides down (deserted) one way streets, to navigate through the centre of PP and onto the coastal road around the bay. There is bike lane here, of varying widths, road surface qualities and road surface colours (bits of it are ‘Cycle Superhighway Blue’). Yeah, so that’s the bike path. Just not the blue bit… Mallorca’s mountain bike routes are also marked on the map, most of which are unpaved and quite easy to follow. Two shortish ascents begin from Felanitx that are among the most enjoyable on the island - and are certainly the best in the south-east corner. The more famous and better climb is to Sa Calobra has become synonymous with cycling on Mallorca, and its climb is one of the toughest on the island. But it’s the iconic hairpin turns that loop through the breathtaking landscape that make this route a must-do for cyclists. Starting at scenic Port de Soller, it’s about a three-hour, 38km course that takes you past soaring Puig Major, Mallorca’s highest peak. Narrow roads and high-season traffic can make a hairy combination on the more elevated sections, so set off early. After the first climb, the ride meanders its way through the country lanes skirting the mountains and toward the coast, here you will ride rolling roads hugging the coast line to a monastery named ‘La Victoria’ (2.1km / 6.4% average). We have a culture that is inclusive, it doesn’t matter at what level you ride a bike, whether you travel solo, with a partner, a friend or in a group, when you step off the plane you are immediately part of the sociable SunVelo family. We are not just a holiday tour operator with bikes, we are a cycling business run by cyclists for cyclists.”

This is a short route at around 15km and is almost completely flat. It is also entirely off-road, so is a great choice for families with younger children, or simply for riders who wish to just go on an easy ride Even in the northwest of Mallorca, there are many scenic, flat roads and good cycle paths. Examples of some easy cycle routes in Mallorca include: S’Albufera Natura Park Though there are ferries to Mallorca from the Spanish mainland (Barcelona and Valencia), most people get to Mallorca aboard an aeroplane. The ride begins from the marina. This is situated at the foot of Bellver Castle and also just a few hundred metres from Far de Portopí (Portopí Lighthouse); the third oldest working lighthouse in the world. From the marina you join a cycle You can reach the hermitage by bike in roughly an hour from Puerto Pollensa, if you take the route along the Ma-220 parallel to the bay of Pollensa, guaranteeing some of the most visually stunning cycling routes you’ve ever been on.What’s more, everyone knows the popular climb as Sa Calobra, but its official name is the Col dell Reis. Sa Calobra is the name of the town at the bottom. Mallorca’s roads The coastal route between Soller and Valldemossa is far removed from the resorts that are found close to the capital Palma; however, it has long been a place of refuge for more discerning travellers. The charming historic villages of Deia and Valldemossa are the favourite destinations; with the latter boasting an impressive historic center and 13th century charterhouse.
