About this deal

If you aren't quite sure which Bible to get started with, here are some great Study Bibles for Beginners. 2. A Note Book When studying the Bible through Verse mapping you really want a Bible translation that is easy for you to read. If you have a King James Version and struggle to get into the habit, it could be that Old English is just too foreign to you to relate to. Highlight or circle any words that seem to be important or grab your attention/give important details/seem significant/ are unclear. Kristy Cambron shows how to go beyond just reading the bible. Verse mapping means getting real about studying the Bible. the Verse Mapping Bible includes 350 preselected verses to give any reader an easy place to start. More than simply reading a verse or Scripture passage, verse mapping means using Bible study tools to research what you’ve just read in the Bible—to learn more about what God is saying to you and how you can apply his Word to your life today.

I learned the Bible verse mapping method in a roundabout way years ago. I didn’t write the verse out, but used the same steps to gain a deeper understanding of what I was reading. Or, if you’re still not sure where to start studying the Bible, use the following ideas for choosing a verse to map:

What is Verse Mapping?

You should also compare 2-4 different translations of a verse because each one may use different modern words or phrases to capture the essense of the meaning.

The newly published NIV Verse Mapping Bible (Zondervan, 2021), created by award-winning author, and women’s ministry leader and speaker, Kristy Cambron, is designed to help you experience the all-inclusive story of who God is and how he is presented throughout the totality of Scripture. My first Bible had no “helps” (commentary) per the instructions of the Bible study I had started. I was new to Bible study and eager to drink as much in as possible and follow the “rules.” Once you have a feel for the context of the verse, have defined the keywords, and read the cross-references you are ready to interpret the verse. You can write out the alternate translations in different colours. This will help it stand out from the version you originally wrote. But keep in mind, there no one right way, nor is there really a wrong way, of studying the Bible. There are actually a bunch of different ways to go about it and everyone learns differently so you need to find a method that suits your learning style.

How to Do Verse Mapping for Beginners

While verse mapping can be done with any study, it’s tempting to be overwhelmed with where to start reading the Bible. While these elements comprise one way to pursue verse mapping, what matters isn’t what your map looks like—that’s up to you. What does matter is what you discover in each verse. Here’s a good rule of thumb: everything is fair game in studying and verse mapping as long as God said it first. Once you’ve gathered the tools and gained the confidence to apply what you’ve learned, it’s up to you how your journey will look . . . how in-depth you study . . . and how much time you spend with God each day. What are the Tools?
