Description

What does Eric's relationship with Merle tell us about him? That he's devoted, for one. You don't follow a girl across seven lifetimes if you're not a loyal and faithful dude to your very core. His love for Merle isn't just some everyday puppy love type crush; it's the kind that doesn't die. In the end, having Merle by his side allows Eric to accept death calmly, knowing that he has lived a few perfect moments in her arms. That's some intense amore right there. They walk through the lanes, and Eric keeps trying to remind himself it’s nighttime, which is hard because it’s almost as bright as day.

Blood Red Snow White: A gripping, romantic adventure novel based on the true story of Arthur Ransome's experiences with love and betrayal in war-torn Russia. Centuries before this all went down, a king named Eirikr offers himself as a human sacrifice. His people are dying because of famine and disease, and they have tried other sacrifices—both animals and human—but now nothing but a king's blood will do. As the king approaches the stone table, his wife, Queen Melle, weeps uncontrollably. Moved by her passion and love, Eirikr promises her that he will live again. Seven times in fact. Will she follow him and find him in each life? She will. And so their journey begins.

Eric had smiled when he’d first read its creepy name, then realized that dracula had nothing to do with vampires, but merely means “little dragon.” But beati. He’d had to look that up, and found it was the Latin for “blessed.” But he feels hungry, amazingly hungry. He wonders if they will have been thoughtful enough to have left some food for him, and he goes downstairs, where he finds not just food, but a whole breakfast laid out on the kitchen table. A pot of coffee is warming on the stove. The first story, “Midsummer Sun,” follows journalist Eric Seven in 2073 as he journeys to a remote Scandinavian community called Blessed Island where people live extraordinary lifespans. While there, he falls in love with a woman named Merle who seems oddly familiar. He also immediately dislikes an old man named Tor, even though the man has given him no reason to be disliked. During an exploration of the island, Eric finds the rumored flower that gives the locals their long life. Tor and the other islanders find him, take him prisoner, and consider sacrificing him to the gods. The situation seems too familiar to Eric. I’m tired,” he said. “Excuse me. I’m tired, but I think I could do with some air before bed. Could I . . . ?” Reminiscent of David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas . . . stark, suspenseful writing." -- School Library Journal

It’s 2073 on a lonely, desolate, mysterious Scandinavian island, when a journalist stumbles upon a beautiful woman and a deadly secret. It’s 2011 as a failed archaeologist unearths a grotesque burial with the help of an addled boy and his loving mother. It’s 1944, and a pilot with a 12-year-old daughter is rescued by a bitter farmer and his death-stained family. It’s 1902 when a forgotten artist befriends a young girl before dying upon completion of his masterpiece. It’s 1848, and a ghost tells two naughty children the tale of her lover’s magical transformation and untimely death. It’s the 10th century, and two siblings are separated by a blood-thirsty vampire and an infertile warlord. It’s a time before time, and a king and queen are murdered in a plea to the gods to bless their lands. It varies from book to book but it's not a chore as I love to do research. It's easier than actually writing the things! For Revolver, the research spanned about 16 months, of little trips here and there and lots and lots of reading! Yup, dude dies for his people. But again, this isn't just a one-time event for Eric—he's willing to give up his own life to help others time and time again. Besides loving Merle, it's the one big quality that he carries through all his lives:
