Don't be afraid to ask someone if they have had suicidal thoughts or if they are thinking of suicide. There is a misconception that by simply asking, you are putting the idea into their head. Openly listening and discussing someone's thoughts of suicide can be a source of relief for them. Breathing Space: A free, confidential phone and web-based service for people in Scotland experiencing low mood, depression or anxiety.Anouska Civico said, “Mind Your Head are excited to finally launch the Wellness Café. It is an extension of the work that Mind Your Head do and will provide the opportunity for people to come together and take time out for themselves. We all need to take care of ourselves and often we simply forget that. Within Shetland we are getting much better at realising the importance of looking after ourselves and the impact that this can have on our own wellbeing. “ Position the lamp at arm's length (about 50cm/20in) with the plastic screen angled towards your face. Plug into the power outlet and switch on. Although you don't need to stare at it, the light must reach your eyes to have any effect. This means you can use the lamp whilst working at the computer, watching TV, reading, etc. Dark glasses, tinted lenses or closing your eyes will all limit the effects of light therapy. Receive practical support towards whatever it is you are struggling with (for example - using public transport, getting out of the house, attending appointments, making phone calls, finding new hobbies, practicing self-love, building self-confidence) Self awareness: Recognising the supporters own mental wellbeing, making sure they have enough resilience of their own to cope with looking after someone else.

Support Sessions: One-to-one support sessions offering guided self-help techniques/coping strategies.

Everybody is different, but 30-60 minutes will probably be enough for to feel the positive benefits of using the lamp. There's no harm in using it for longer and you can even make up this time by dipping in throughout the day. If you find your eyes ache slightly, try using it further away or switch it off for a while.

https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/types-of-mental-health-problems/depression/about-depression The key difference between depression and low mood is when the feelings continue despite taking positive steps to help manage low mood. You don't have to be an expert on mental health to talk to someone. Just asking someone how they are can make a big difference. Allowing someone to to talk about things can mean a lot, especially if they have felt they had nobody to talk to. Just knowing you are thinking about them, and that you care, can be a big help. By listening and being supportive they may feel able to open up, and if need be get help. It might not happed straight away, so try not to focus on their feelings too much, just talking about everyday things will help the person to feel normal too. Opening up for the first time about feelings or things that worry us can be a scary thing to do, so be patient.Launched Well Youth supporting children and young people 10-25 years old to help improve their mental health and wellbeing If you're using your lamp to help with the winter blues, bright light in the morning has been shown to be most effective so try that first. If you are a young person and are worried about your own mental health or the mental health of someone you know, here's how we can help.
