Description

The Mayku FormBox comes with two types of forming sheets Form Sheets and Cast Sheets. The Cast Sheets are food-safe, so we used one of them for this project.

I removed the snowflake from the mold. After the cure time, the mold is ready to use. However, the instructions say that if you’re using a resin casting product, concrete, or plaster, the mold needs to cure at room temperature for 24 hours first. After you fill all the spaces, you can also sprinkle on a topping to decorate the chocolate. I used a little fleur de sel and then popped the whole thing in the fridge so the chocolate could set. Once both silicone components are completely mixed, roll the silicone into a ball immediately and gently flatten. You can use a rolling pin, but make sure the rolling pin it totally clean. You should flatten the putty based on the depth of the impression you’ll need. Don’t make it too thin—the cured mold could tear. Step 3: Use an object to create an impression This style of sculpture meant that it did not need to be very detailed. The supplies for this mold putty are very inexpensive and readily available. Make a mold from a Plaster Casting:A heat source is used to warm a sheet of thermoplastic until it becomes soft enough to form around a shape Once the molding putty has hardened (it will still be rubbery, but not completely stiff), gently pry out and remove your original object. To test out my mold, I used a two-part epoxy resin colored with a light pink mica dye powder. And it worked out great! The mold did develop a bit of a condensation on it, but I didn’t wipe or clean it before using it.

Silicone Rubber Mold Putty is a platinum-cure two-part mold making material that comes in the form of two component putties that you mix together by hand to form a molding putty. You then shape this material over or around an object that you want to copy. The material will then cure to form a durable, flexible mold exactly duplicating the object you shaped it around. Silicone Putty Molds are easy to make, durable, food safe, and you can bake food or polymer clay in them. Read more about Silicone Rubber Molding Material, or read on for my comparison of Amazing Mold Putty vs EasyMold. A Shore value of between 40 and 80 refers to rubbers that are harder than they are flexible. These molds can withstand more weight, but also tend to be quite brittle. When you first start making silicone molds you might make some mistakes. But as you can see, it is a very simple process. Now you can make molds out of anything you find from buttons to cut pieces of cardboard to tube caps! To use Amazing Mold Putty, you mix equal amounts of Putty A and Putty B . Putty A is white and putty B is yellow so that you can easily see how well youve combine them. You want to make sure you mix them thoroughly so that you get a pale yellow color. If you dont, youll have different textures with some parts being more flexible than others. Both Amazing Mold Putty and EasyMold are used in exactly the same way. I found no difference whatsoever in how they mix together and are used to mold an object. Both are easy to mix in your hands and leave a slight oily residue on your fingers. According to the ingredients listed in the Material Safety Data Sheets for Amazing Mold Putty, this is most likely mineral oil. (The MSDS for EasyMold lists only Crystalline Silica (quartz) as a component, which is a bit, um, incomplete. They cite that it’s a proprietary formula.)

Artisan Chocolate Has Finally Met It’s Match

Silicone molds are easy to make and help you create just one item or as many as you want. Some molds do deteriorate over time, but I am not factory producing 1000s or mini items.

If you were making a glove or blanket mold, you’d apply 3 or 4 layers of the silicone with a small brush. Let each layer cure for about 1 hour before applying another layer. Speed up the curing time with a heat source (hair dryer, heat lamp, heat gun, etc.). Step 4: Let cure and remove the object I have been using this recipe and method for many years and have been impressed how these molds have lasted. The equipment is simple; a bowl, gloves, knife and caulking gun.

Thermoformed Vs Injection Style Molds

A Shore value of 0 to 20 indicates a highly soft and flexible rubber. This material tends to be quite unstable.

My silicone mold putty method can also be used to replicate textures to be used in other ways. The amount of detail that can be pulled from a Coleus leaf is quite astounding! There’s a second way to make your own silicone mold that I tried out and want to share. While the first version used a silicone putty to make an impression mold, the second using a pourable/brush-able liquid silicone to make a mold. Alumilite Amazing Mould Putty - use this moulding compound to create flexiblefood safesilicone moulds with high detail in just 20 minutes!

I wanted to choose something a bit more difficult to make a mold of because I’m a glutton for punishment. So I chose a small faux succulent…I didn’t mind if it got destroyed in the trial-and-error process. 🙂 How to Make Your Own Silicone Mold: Making Succulent Flower Mold for Resin Now you will need a straight piece of metal for the main pump, a small curved piece for the spout and a ring for the handle/trigger. I formed all of these from one paper clip, but you can also use straight pins or jewelry bits to create the same thing. They will not shrink, are strong and flexible, and are self-releasing—no mold release agent required, which is one less thing to buy! Oh, and they’re reusable, but I haven’t used a mold twice yet. So I can’t speak to how well they hold up and when they begin to deteriorate. Since it is a pretty simple shape to pull out of a mold it has been a fun one to adapt.
