About this deal

In the case of this piece, Saeki never has a problem saying out loud that he likes Wataru. It is, in fact, that emotion which guides his every move over the course of the story – the two met as children and Saeki nursed his feelings for the other boy until they met again in high school, something he never anticipated. That certainly means that he had plenty of time to come to terms with how he felt, which isn't the case for Wataru. Wataru doesn't seem to have ever had a romantic relationship, or even particularly romantic feelings, before, and when Saeki confesses to him he's thrown completely off guard. Not, he stresses, because Saeki's a guy, but because he just never saw it coming. That Saeki wants to maintain their friendship with no pressure also throws him, but since he genuinely enjoys spending time with him, he agrees, and the two grow closer over the course of the summer of their second year in high school.

But no matter how satisfying a relationship unfolds, from the hesitation down to the long awaited confession, somehow it leaves readers like me wanting to see more. This book was exactly the satisfaction I needed. Mizuki Tsujimura ( Anime Supremacy!) and Kodansha published the original three-volume novel series in 2004, with a new two-volume re-release in 2007. Arakawa launched the manga adaptation in Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Magazine in December 2007, and ended it in April 2009. Kodansha published four volumes for the manga.

What's nice is that Saeki really, genuinely gives Wataru space. There's even a scene where Wataru's passed out asleep on Saeki's bed (exhausted from a long day at work and then an evening with friends), and Saeki bends down to kiss him and then stops himself, because Wataru wouldn't like him doing that when he's not awake. Creo que es de esos mangas que le recomendas a todo el mundo sin decirles realmente que les van a romper el corazón en pedacitos. Justamente esto hizo que amara profundamente esta historia, no me esperaba nada de lo que iba a pasar y terminé llorando mares al final. this was originally going to be four stars for me, but the final chapter had me on a chokehold from all the emotions i didn't expect to feel in a manga with only 5 chapters that i couldn't help but give it five stars overall.

Takeoka wrote the Masamune-kun's Revenge manga that inspired a television anime. Fly drew the Kemono Friends: Welcome to Japari Park manga and drafted the original character designs for the IRODUKU: The World in Colors anime. All in all, The Summer of You was a more than decent read and I’m sure that will appeal to ardent shounen-ai fans. i loved their confession scenes (Saeki in the beginning and Wataru towards the end)!! the way they had done it was SO who they were as a character and it was the cutest. 🥺

Hola lectores! No puedo creer que por fin les traiga una reseña! Todavía sigo un poco con bloqueo lector, por lo tanto me esta costando engancharme en los libros. High-schooler Wataru Toda is a film buff and he’s delighted when – through a chance encounter – he discovers that Chiharu Saeki (in the same year) shares his obsession. So when Saeki suggests going on a pilgrimage of sorts in the summer vacation, visiting all the locations featuring in his favourite film, The Beach in Broad Daylight, Wataru doesn’t hesitate to agree. Although…some weeks earlier, he felt unsettled when Saeki told him calmly but straightforwardly that he likes him. Overcoming his initial surprise and confusion, Wataru doesn’t reject Saeki (he already knows that he likes him as a friend). But does ‘like’ mean something far deeper to Saeki than Wataru? And will that spoil their friendship? Takeoka launched the manga in Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Rex magazine in November 2018. Ichijinsha published the manga's first compiled book volume last July.
