Other wargame scales? It depends on your level of desire for accuracy or general 'thirst for knowledge' Frédéric Masson, Napoleon at Home: The Daily Life of the Emperor at the Tuileries, translated by James E. Matthew, Vol. 1 (London, 1894), p. 116. The book and plates of Rousselot's uniform study are valuable, though even if you have the new book, still try and get the plates. Some soldiers wore speciality insignia such as horseshoes for farriers or two crossed axes for sappers Musicians [ edit ] Hussar insignia was represented with elaborate curved embroidered chevrons in gold lace on the lower sleeve of the wearer's coat and pelisse extending from the cuff to the elbow of the wearer. Officer's chevrons had the point facing up. Warrant officers and NCOs were the same, but less elaborate. Joaquin Phoenix, Ridley Scott and Vanessa Kirby attend the UK premiere of Napoleon. Photograph: Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images Horses were rare in Spain during the war, but those which could be located were issued with blue saddleclothes laced with yellow.

You can see here the real uniform of general of division Napoléon wore at Marengo which is represented on the Appiani’s painting but also on the famous David’s “Bonaparte franchissant le Grand Saint-Bernard”. It is noted that the uniform was tailored for a man of 1m68 (5.62, damned your imperial system!!! ;-)) ; another proof that Napoléon was not short for a man of his time… Napoleon’s hat and greatcoat at the Musée de l’Armée in Paris, photographed by Damian Entwistle Napoleon’s greatcoat

Napoleon’s clothes on Elba

Those serving afloat to wear a Button with a plain Anchor in an Oval. Those serving in Hospitals to wear a similar Button, with the addition of H.S. (For Hospital Staff). Although the format may sound familiar to Osprey fans, this book is so much more than a king-sized Men-at-Arms. It is a work of art unto itself. Since Napoleon’s son was living with his grandfather, Emperor Francis I of Austria (an enemy of Napoleon), it was not possible for him to receive the clothes before his death in 1832, at the age of 21. Instead the clothes were given to Napoleon’s mother, Letizia Bonaparte, who distributed them among Napoleon’s siblings. Most of Napoleon’s clothes that were preserved by the imperial family are in the Napoleon I Museum at the Château de Fontainebleau, including Napoleon’s only surviving grenadier uniform.
