You may want to give a Preset a new name when you save it. There’s a menu button in the middle of the display that gives you this option while in Save mode. (Image 6) Powering on while pressing the [Toggle/View] and [Mixer] buttons at the same time will put Panorama in the mode where it is ready to receive a firmware update. It is just one button press to switch between controlling the Mixer, Instruments and Transport thanks to Panorama’s mode buttons, with the 4th mode, Internal, still providing access to traditional MIDI control. Press and hold the [F-Keys] button while selecting one of the other F buttons (F1 through F11) to execute their assigned functions. Software authorization is not required to run Nektarine though some functionality is only available when used with a compatible Nektar product. Be aware that any user is bound by the EULA and any redistribution of Nektarine is strictly prohibited.

Select a different type of character by pressing menu button 3 (labeled A1_). The first press will make numbers available; the second will make non-alphanumeric characters available. Turning the data knob will show which characters are available in each case. Octave’ and ‘Transpose’: The combination of these settings allows Zone 1 to be transposed by any number of notes relative to the other Zones. They can be set positively or negatively using the data encoder. If DP-1 was installed in step 2, import the ‘DP1_Factory_Soundbank.nek’ by following the steps in 5.13 Batch Importing Patches. Note that the Soundbank Multipatch kits can only be viewed/loaded when the pads profile is selected. On Panorama T4/T6, press [Shift]+[Instrument] to toggle the two profiles. If Aura is plugged in at first bootup, Nektarine automatically boots with the pads profile selected following. Panorama’s Cubase and Nuendo implementation comes with a long list of maps for VST plugins including all Steinberg products and major software developers such as Waves, Brainworx, Korg, Rob Papen to name a few. The Nektar created maps include logical navigation and formatting of parameter names so it’s easy to understand how it all works. Panorama can of course only read the parameters that are sent by a plugin but thankfully many are pretty complete. Here we show Waves GTR Stereo Amp VST insert plug-in controlled from Panorama. The amp controls are currently controlled by 8 encoders including Amp Type which is set to Clean. Pressing the display buttons labeled Cab1 or Cab2 will instantly assign the encoders to the controls for each of the cabs. All mapped out, so you don’t have to. Each of the eight channels has three potentiometers for remote control of various parameters. The user interface is completed with the three soft buttons Bank Left, Bank Right, and Send All. As I said, everything is kept nice and compact. We'll see later whether this is beneficial in practice or what can be done with it at all. Three modes allows you one button press to switch between controlling the Mixer, Instruments and Transport, with the 4th mode, Internal, still providing access to traditional MIDI control. There comes a point in every producer's journey when intuitiveness and speed trumps everything else.

Collection and delivery costs are included for the first 2 years in the event of an item becoming faulty Like any hardware control surface, the biggest obstacle to getting the best from it comes it two forms: firstly, the initial technical configuration and, secondly, retraining your brain to reach for the controller rather than your mouse. Nektar can’t really help you with the second of these — expect it to take some time and discipline — but they could perhaps make the first step easier. Press a key on the keyboard to define the low note for Zone 1. You can use the Octave Down/Up buttons to reach any note within the MIDI note range of C-2 to G8.

FINDING YOUR WAY

As mentioned earlier, this method of setting the low/high note limits will keep cycling between the low limit and the high limit; it will not exit automatically. So the top line will ask you to set the low limit again. If you’d like to refine the note range for Zone 1, set another low note, then another high note, etc., until you are satisfied. Enable / disable buttons for each zone: When lit red, that zone is active. When not lit, the zone is not active. At 32 by 8 cm and perhaps one centimeter in height, Korgs Nanokey 2 is like its predecessor. It is very small and also very light. It weighs about as much as a ceramic coffee cup. It is, therefore, actually the ideal tool that can be placed anywhere on the desk. Pitch bend: On or Off: When the pitch bend wheel is active for a certain Zone, an ‘X’ will appear in this box. When an ‘X’ is not present, the pitch bend wheel has been disabled for that Zone.

Nektarine also turns our AURA Beat Composer pad controller into an open-ended and powerful beat creation instrument, that allows the creation of kits from multiple plugins for unlimited sonic possibilites. This includes Nektar DAW Integration and deep plugin control in any DAW using Nektarine. WHAT MAKES NEKTAR MIDI CONTROLLERS SPECIAL? Channel: Global’ means that Zone 1 is set to the Global MIDI channel. The actual MIDI channel number is determined in Global mode. If this value is changed there, then all the MIDI data generated by Zone 1 will be transmitted on whatever the new MIDI channel number becomes. But if you want to change this Zone to transmit on a ‘fixed’ MIDI channel that won’t change when the Global channel is changed, use the data encoder to select a MIDI channel number between 1 and 16. Down Arrow (M1): pressing this button will select the next parameter down the list. When the highlighted cursor reaches ‘Bank MSB’, the next press takes you to the top of the column on the right and the Pitch Bend On/Off parameter. When it reaches ‘MIDI FX’, the next press ‘wraps around’ to the top of the column on the left and the Channel parameter. With the X-Touch One, Behringer is expanding its range of DAW controllers to include a compact model with just one (motor) fader. The construction is impeccable. The housing consists of an aluminum/plastic mix. You don't need to worry about the intended use in the studio. Some items for the next version are already on my wish list. Maybe there will soon be something like an L-12 “PRO” version that has MIDI, ADAT, and alternate takes on board and with which external preamps can be integrated more easily. Measured by the range of functions and the offered sound quality, the retail price is incredibly cheap.Maps are loaded the same way Presets are. If you’re not already there, press the Internal mode button to start from the top level of Internal mode. Then press the button labeled “Load” (M4) to access the Load menu. Find the file named ‘Panorama_P*_FW_….bin’. (* represents 1, 4 or 6, depending on the model you are using). (Image 6)

While the Mixer and Instrument modes will be where most time is probably spent, the Transport mode offers some useful additional options. The main transport buttons (located bottom-right) are functional all the time, but in Transport mode you can get control over the left/right locators, move the loop region, adjust the tempo and change the record mode, amongst a number of other things. If you have a footpedal connected to the P1’s rear panel you can also set the function that this controls. Reason To Be (Less) Cheerful Nektarine can be resized by grabbing the bottom right corner with the mouse and moving it in the desired direction to resize. If hosted in a DAW, the size of Nektarine is stored with the DAW song/project. The firmware update app nkupdate should now say “OK Nektar unit is connected in firmware update mode”. (Image 4) The left/centre of the surface is dominated by 16 rotary encoders, nine faders with a 45mm throw and 10 buttons. Two of these — Toggle/View and Toggle/Mute — change the functionality of eight of the rotary encoders and the eight buttons beneath the faders. The right-hand section of the surface is a little busier. It features a full set of transport controls that, via the F-Keys button, can also have a second set of functions allocated to them. In addition, there is a large (86mm) TFT display, three sets of buttons for navigating within the display and switching between the P1’s various modes, and a single ‘data’ encoder for adjusting parameters or scrolling through menus.Zone 4: active within the MIDI note range of G#4 to C8. It is assigned to MIDI channel 4, which will not change if the Global channel is changed. It is transposed downward by one octave. The keyboard icon at the top of the display is highlighted in red, which means the selected Preset will be overwritten if you proceed. Be sure this is what you want to do first!
