The Z-series lenses so far have been almost universally excellent, and we are excited to see what Nikon’s optical engineers will continue to do with such a flexible mount. It’s also unreasonable to expect that Nikon would have produced a full series of Z lenses in less than three years, especially given the pandemic interrupting some of their operations. However, if Nikon wants to catch up to Sony’s lens lineup and avoid falling behind Canon, they need to get out some more lenses, especially telephotos, as soon as possible. Distortion corrections aren't always complete and some distortion may be left even with distortion correction turned on, while with some lenses like the complex 14/2.8D it works great. Weird is that you can set MENU > Camera > Auto distortion control > ON, but it doesn't do anything with manual focus lenses. If Nikon was smart, if they had a good electronic mount strategy from the start, they would have the manual compatibility with ancient lenses (that they have) and 100% compatibility with all of their electronic lenses. The fact that they have a mish mash of incomparable electronic mount lenses is completely due to their poor planning. Nikon could have complete electronic compatibility with all of their lenses, but they squandered that. If Nikon had done the electronic mount proper then all of your old electronic lenses would work just fine on new Z cameras. F2 DG HSM | Art ( Previously, had an issue where it would occasionally “stop recording” when shooting video, according to Sigma.)

Because it can't read the set aperture EXIF data only reads the maximum aperture set in Non-CPU Lens Data, never the actual aperture you used. With the attachment of teleconverters, the focal length can be extended to 560mm and 800mm 4 while maintaining high resolution. The NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S gives users an extremely useful 24-120mm range focal length and S-line optical quality. This 5x zoom lens is ideal for landscapes, events, weddings and portraits as well as for video and content creators. With a constant f/4 aperture, the lens attains beautiful rendering with large bokeh, especially in the telephoto range. The 24-120mm f/4 is the lightest lens in its class 5, weighing only 630g, and combines portability and versatility to make it a great travel companion. Z-Series Lens Lineup

Users of the Z6II and other Z-series cameras released in or after November, 2020, should install this update if the camera displays a message prompting them to update the FTZ mount adapter firmware. All of Sigma’s newest lenses have a built-in autofocus motor, so they will autofocus with the Nikon FTZ adapter without issue. (This includes every lens listed above.) However, some of the oldest and discontinued Sigma lenses do not have a built-in motor, so they will not autofocus with the FTZ. NIKON Z7 + Sigma Macro 105mm f/2.8 @ 105mm, ISO 450, 1/800, f/6.3 Tamron Brand Lenses APO 800mm F5.6 EX DG HSM ( Of this lens,Sigma says “it is difficult to achieve sufficient focusing accuracy” and “please use manual focus.”) There are three white (< o>) manual focus indicators at the lower left of the finder, and the selected focus sensor turns from red to green when in focus, which works pretty well — but nowhere near as well as if Nikon actually designed the FTZ properly to autofocus. Among 100-400 mm zoom lenses with a maximum aperture of f/4.5-5.6 for full-frame (Nikon FX-format) digital cameras with interchangeable lenses available as of October 28, 2021. Statement based on Nikon research.

The shortest 3 rotation angle of 80 degrees in its class for the zoom ring enables users to rotate the zoom ring from the wide-angle position to the telephoto position in just one motion, without adjusting lens holding. The FTZ and FTZ II are the same, except that the FTZ II has no tripod foot so it's easier to use with the Z9 and it's large grip. Otherwise these are the same adapters and I won't mention any more about one versus the other; they each work exactly the same as the other.

The secret weapon of the Nikon Z system is the mount. It is both the largest mount for any full-frame camera system and the one which is positioned closest to the sensor (shortest flange distance). This allows Nikon’s optical engineers unprecedented flexibility when designing lenses. The following lenses and accessories cannot be used with the Mount Adapter FTZ II. Attempting to forcibly attach any of this equipment could damage the adapter or the lens. Individual variation may render lenses other than those listed below incompatible; do not use force if you encounter resistance when attempting to attach a lens. The diaphragm opens and closes automatically for each shot so it's open for precise focusing. With DX Lenses (2003-today) While lateral chromatic aberration is optically corrected, axial chromatic aberration is also significantly reduced via the adoption of Super ED glass and ED glass elements, providing clear images across the entire frame from maximum aperture.

Many photographers who are considering the Z6 II are existing Nikon shooters with a collection of F-mount glass. The good news is that most Nikon lensescan be used on the Z6 II very easily with Nikon’s FTZ adapter (see the full compatibility list here), pictured below attached to the Nikon Z7: Features the highest maximum reproduction ratio of 38x (at the maximum telephoto position) in its class 1 that lets users shoot flowers and insects in large size, with a minimum focusing distance of 0.75M (2.46 inches) to allow users to get closer to their subjects.

Compatibility

Effective compensation for chromatic aberration with the employment of three ED glass, one aspherical ED glass, and three aspherical lens elements in the optical system.

Select SETUP MENU> Firmware version and follow the on-screen instructions to perform the firmware update.Be careful not to force any lens onto the FTZ adapter. Non-CPU lenses with an F-mount are highly unlikely to damage the FTZ, but it is possible that some broken or very unusual non-CPU lenses could do so, and it would not be covered by warranty. NIKON Z7 + Laowa 25mm f/2.8 Ultra Macro 2.5-5× Non-CPU Lens @ ISO 200, 1/200 Conclusion The Z system is very, very new. That means there aren't a lot of native lenses available for photographers who want to jump on board. The FTZ Adapter is Nikon's solution. It allows longtime Nikon SLR owners to use the lenses they already own with the Z 7 and Z 6. And it works well, matching the performance of native lenses on the Z 7 with which we tested it.
