Description

The Oral-B iO has been redesigned from the ground up. From the motor to the handle, to the brush head, it has all changed.

With only a couple of slight differences between these two models, the Pro 3 3000 is the more premium and expensive of the two. But it doesn’t make it the one to go for. With either you have to power the brush on to change mode, but the Genius will remember the cleaning mode and start on this next time it is powered on, the 5000 does not. The Smart 6 travel case is better than some of the cheaper models. It is a white colour and is fairly robust. You can learn more about this mode and how it differs but reading our article, Oral-B cleaning modes explained. But, the whitening mode is often overrated.

How we did the test

This isn’t to say those features aren’t useful for some people. But, we have learnt that most people would rather save a bit of money, than have lots of features they may not use, making the Pro 3 3500 a perfect fit. The Pro 1000 has a brush motor offering 8,800 oscillations and 20,000 pulsations, compared to the 9,900 oscillations and 40,000 pulsations of the Pro 2 2000. The Pro 2 2000 offers 9,900 oscillations and 45,000 pulsations compared to the 8,800 and 20,000 of the Pro 1000. Both come with a premium travel case and a 2+ week battery life. A visible pressure sensor, 2 minute timer and pacer are built-in too. iO Series vs Genius X There are five cleaning programs, allowing you to also clean gums, focus extra on removing stains, or extra gentle brushing. Switching between the programs works fine, both on the handle (when you find the invisible button) and in the app.

The 3000 is available in a few different variants, meaning different handle colours and brush heads included. However, typically you will get just 1 brush head in the box. That is usually the CrossAction head, like that supplied with the Pro 2. The Smart 5 5000 comes supplied with a more suitable holder too. It sits on a work surface rather than needing to be attached to a wall. It is our opinion is smarter and less unsightly. You just need to pop your phone in it, which takes a couple of seconds compared to the tens of seconds with the genius brush configuration. You phone then sits in portrait or landscape orientation and shows the on-screen timer.

minute timer — The timer starts when you turn the toothbrush on. Two minutes is the amount of time the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends to clean your teeth effectively. 1 People who use manual toothbrushes brush for an average of 45 seconds. 4 This isn’t long enough to completely clean your teeth. The timer and pacer ensure good brushing habits. However, for those who require more detail, we do have a number of comprehensive written comparisons. It does not mean the brush will actually clean the teeth better. In fact, both have the same motor inside and the same cleaning modes. Put these two brushes side by side and the differences between them are much harder to tell, they look almost identical, however there are some subtle differences.

Electric toothbrushes that are clinically proven to be superior to manual toothbrushes, providing benefits in removing more plaque for cleaner teeth and healthier gums. Oral-B electric toothbrushes remove up to 100% more plaque than a regular manual brush, which is why they are recommended by UK dentists and hygienists. Oral-B electric rechargeable toothbrushes (from Pro 600 model upwards) also whiten teeth starting from day one by removing surface stains. Electric toothbrushes are suitable from ages 3+, with specific kids electric toothbrush models available, and are gentle on gums and suitable for sensitive teeth. Electric rechargeable toothbrushes come with replacement toothbrush heads, which should be replaced every three months. Whilst the Genius is the premium brush it offers inferior battery life. Our testing has confirmed that the 9000 offers 12 days of usage time compared to the 18 days on the Smart 6. It offers a blend of features and functions that benefit us as users at a price that most will find affordable. Pro Gum Care (Sensitive brush head) – These have extra soft bristles for a gentle clean and are perfect for people who have sensitive gums. I am confident that the Genius X motor is more powerful. I think the Pro 5000 you might have has something in the region of 8,800 oscillations and either 20,000 or 40,000 pulsations.GUM Sonic Daily looks like a regular toothbrush and runs for up to three months on a standard AAA battery. Brushing cannot fully compete with the more conventional electric toothbrushes, yet it is an affordable entry-level model for anyone who wants to update their manual toothbrush. Gentle brush head and long battery life The great number of choices you have within the Oral-B range can make it really quite difficult to decide which toothbrush is right for you. The image below is a comparison chart that shows the main models available from Oral-B today, along with the features and functions each offer.

The reality is that you could use any mode on the brush to clean your tongue just ending the clean sooner. Although the speed and number of oscillations will be different. The Pro 1000 comes with the American Dental Association’s (ADA) Seal of Acceptance. 5 This means it’s proven to prevent cavities and reduce plaque effectively. 2. All the Essentials Dentists recommend brushing your teeth twice daily for two minutes at a time. This helps remove plaque and bacteria from the teeth and gums to keep your mouth healthy. On the rear of the Pro 2 2000 brush handle, just below where the brush head attaches, is a red plastic panel. This is the visible pressure sensor. More details on this shortly, but know that the 1000 does not have it. There is no battery in the case, to charge the brush and anything connected via the USB cable the case has to be connected to mains power. These models oscillate at 8,800 movements per minute and 20,000 pulsations per minute. The handle also features a really handy pressure sensor which detects when you are brushing too hard and stops the pulsations to help protect your gums. They also have a 2 minute built-in timer which pulsates every 30 seconds to let you know when to switch areas of the mouth. Find out which products offer the timer here. Oral-B is known for producing reliable electric toothbrushes; the Pro 1000 is no exception. The brush head continued to function after being dropped multiple times. The best electric toothbrush for you depends on your needs and preferences. The Oral-B Pro 1000 is the right electric toothbrush for you if you: It also comes with blue indicator bristles. These bristles fade after 3 months, reminding you to change your brush head. Using old brush heads can damage your teeth over time.
