The Smart 5 5000 comes supplied with a more suitable holder too. It sits on a work surface rather than needing to be attached to a wall. It is our opinion is smarter and less unsightly. You just need to pop your phone in it, which takes a couple of seconds compared to the tens of seconds with the genius brush configuration. You phone then sits in portrait or landscape orientation and shows the on-screen timer. On the rear of the handle rather than raised plastic ridges, the 3000 has a more subtle dimpled surface. Whilst all these features are great, there is one thing that many of us, myself included forget or overlook and that is how we use them. It is all very well having 6 cleaning modes, but what is the point if we only use them once or twice. Most of us fall into the trap of just using the standard ‘Clean’ mode most of the time. We either forget about the others or simply don’t bother. The 3000 is available in a few different variants, meaning different handle colours and brush heads included. However, typically you will get just 1 brush head in the box. That is usually the CrossAction head, like that supplied with the Pro 2. Both brushes come with thestandard ‘Daily Clean’ mode. They both then have a Sensitive mode. It is only the Pro 3 3000 that has the ‘Whitening’ mode.

Sonicare brushes use high frequency vibrations for cleaning, which some prefer, but the performance is similar. Ultimately Oral-B takes the edge for its balance of proven cleaning technology, important features, and reasonable prices. The reason I believe that Sonicare is the best quality overall is because of the feel and performance in hand. Sonicare, to me at least feel more robust and premium, the plastics look and feel stronger and the overall experience is that more effort and attention to detail has been put into the product. A newer feature (although it has been around for a few years now) is Bluetooth connectivity which shares brushing data with your phone. Sonicare have 2 models that can do this whereas Oral-B have 8. You have to stand in front of your smartphone when brushing and can’t really move as the brush movements need to be seen by the camera. In recent years, Oral-B was the winner here, but since Sonicare have introduced BrushSync, I feel they now have more features available on some of their brush handles. What you might class as a feature may differ, to me.

It does too come with a premium travel case, similar to that of the Genius X, which allows the brush to be charged whilst inside. However, like the X, this requires a separate proprietary power adapter. A smaller and final difference between the two models is the colour of the brush handles, or more precisely the rubber grip that runs down the front of it.Clinical studies such as this onesuggest a marked difference in the clean offered by the oscillating rotating brush compared to the sonic option. Oral-B offers a variety of replacement heads to ensure you can find the one that best suits your oral care needs. The below brush heads fit all of our electric toothbrush handles (except Oral-B iO). Browse below our entire line of Oral-B replacement brush heads.

They do also offer an automatic power off feature which in my opinion is the best feature and most applicable of all additions over the basic cleaning mode. At the time of writing both Sonicare and Oral-B have about 15 different models each in their ranges. Fits toothbrushes marked: Type 3708, 3709, 3710, 3737, 3753, 3754, 3756, 3761, 3762, 3764, 3765, 3766, 3767, 3771, 3772, 3776, 3794, 4717Other toothbrush chargers not covered here include the Type 3755 that comes with the Genius X toothbrush, and the Type 4736, 4727 and 4804 chargers. Some of the markings on Braun Oral-B chargers include:

The new magnetic driven motor is quieter and the way it works produces a cleaning sensation that is similar, but different. In particular, Oral-B brushes use oscillating-rotating technology that closely mimics the motion of a manual toothbrush and provides a deep clean. And the 3500 has multiple cleaning modes and a built-in timer to ensure proper brushing technique. It is my choice for the best electric toothbrush, all things considered.Sensitive Clean: for a gentle clean, comes with ultra-thin bristles that are tough on plaque but gentle on gums
