Final Thoughts: This is a very intriguing whiskey. The nose is fantastic, if just for the mystery I found in it. The normal Portwood finish flavours are certainly there, but there is much more going on as well. While not bad, by any means, I did find it a bit disappointing to sip. The body just wasn’t quite there to support those deep, brooding fruit and spice notes. While definitely a pleasant experience, the nose certainly set expectations a bit high for what the body could actually deliver. Markets often exhibit cyclical tendencies—following a decline, there might be growth. However, this pattern isn't guaranteed, and investment decisions shouldn't solely hinge on this assumption. It's prudent to consult with whisky investment specialists or utilize analytical tools and data available on platforms like ours to decipher the unique traits and trends of the whisky market. Forecasting the value fluctuation of a Penderyn whisky over time is a nuanced and uncertain task. Although past auction prices provide historical insights, they don't necessarily indicate future trends. In the short term, like 1-2 months, recent auction cycles might offer a rough estimate of the bottle's value, but long-term projections are significantly more complex. Historical Significance: Bottles linked to notable events or personalities may appreciate in value.

Penderyn is a single malt whisky produced in several expressions, e.g. Madeira Finish, Peated, Sherrywood and Portwood. The distillery also produces the Dragon range comprising Legend (Madeira finish), Myth (Bourbon finish) and Celt (Peated). The price of a Penderyn whisky is swayed by market demand and supply, influenced by numerous factors including rarity, age, branding, economic conditions, and consumer preferences, all of which are unpredictable. Even in the near future, market behavior can be capricious.

Penderyn Distillery was at one point one of the only distilleries in the region, and it is now the figurehead and standard bearer for Welsh whisky. The Welsh Whisky Company, Penderyn’s company name, brought its first whisky to market in 2004. Since then it has enjoyed exceptional growth and garnered quite a bit of both regional and international acclaim.

Penderyn continues to grow. In 2014, an expansion to the distillery was put in motion, with a pair of pot stills, a copper pot still and mashing facilities being commissioned. Two new distilleries are opening soon, one in the north and one in Swansea in the south, and it has begun to make serious inroads into the export market – having recently gone into China, Japan, Russia and the US. Delving into the specifics of cask storage—including costs, conditions, and regulatory compliance—is crucial to ensure optimal maturation conditions. Penderyn Welsh Whiskies (Gold Range) (image via Penderyn) Tasting Notes: Penderyn Peated Single Malt Geographical Location: Your location can affect both buying and selling opportunities, impacting the overall cost and ease of the transaction. Nose: A familiar fruit profile jumps out once again, with melon gummies, pineapple juice and green apple rushing to the front. There are viognier grapes and there’s a little touch saline as well. It’s a bit hot up front, but with a few drops of water it opens up and milds the heat quite a bit. Very pleasant aromatics.

Final Thoughts: The Rich Oak Single Malt is a delightful dram. The interplay between aromatic fruits, sweetness and oak tannins is very well done. It comes across as very ‘traditional’ (read: balanced) in its flavor profile, despite the relatively experimental cask regimine. This expression originated as a series of smaller releases focusing on different wine casks finishes, and I’m now very intrigued to try those. The 92 proof of this release is lower than the previous expressions and I’d love to try a cask strength version! This is the first time in Penderyn’s history that we have used Peated Barley, and we have commissioned a new Faraday Still, which is what makes Penderyn’s whiskies so unique.

Please note that, while children are welcome to visit the distillery, we are a commercial whisky distillery, producing a product which is strictly, and legally, for adult consumption. We do, therefore, expect parents to use their judgement when considering visiting such a venue as we do not have any facilities to entertain children, and no visitors under the age of 14 are permitted to access our production area. (And please note: 14-17 year olds don't get tastings). Any children brought to the distillery must be supervised at all times and we reserve the right to ask them and their accompanying guardian to leave if they disrupt the experience of our other visitors. Appearance: Notably cloudy and oily, it’s the colour of dusty rose gold and less leggy than the others. The collectibility of a Penderyn whisky hinges on several factors. Here are some key aspects to ponder: Wales is part of the United Kingdom and home to the native people of the British Isles. Welsh national identity emerged among the Celtic Britons after the Roman withdrawal in the 5th century. In this country, rich in myth and legend, the people have a quiet power and passion and many still speak the ancient Welsh language. There’s a bit of alcohol burn and some slightly dusty wood tannins but overall a vast improvement from the Peated expression. Layers of delicate fruits, marzipan and lightly sweet breads with some baking spices for character make this enjoyable through the last. Please note photos we take may be used for marketing purposes, please let a member of the team know on the day you’re visiting us, if you don’t wish to be photographed. Penderyn make award-winning whiskies and spirits at their distillery in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales. The area has spectacular mountain scenery, open moorland, farmland and valleys containing fast-flowing streams, rivers and waterfalls.

Today the Red Dragon (in Welsh, Y Ddraig Goch) is the proud national flag of Wales. This fiery creature is close to our hearts. It is thought that the ancient Welsh kings were using the dragon as a royal emblem by the early 5th century AD. In this they followed Roman cohorts that carried hollow metal 'draco' standards, through which the wind howled, to instill fear in their foes. Specific Bottle Variation: Numerous releases of Penderyn whisky have occurred over the years. The specific release to which a bottle belongs greatly impacts its value. Additionally, the condition of the bottle, the labeling, and the level of fill are crucial factors in determining its worth. The Old Board School in Lloyd St was built in 1881. More recently it housed the Conwy Council archive. The building has been fully restored and many original features have been saved, including the parquet floors, wall tiles, roof beams and the old steel banisters.
