About this deal

It has enemies to lover trope. It has tending to wounds trope. It has the ‘who did this to you’ trope.” Okay, but what’s the book about? What is the book trying to accomplish? What makes it different from all the other books out there with similar tropes? The publisher said “competitive and fast-moving international rights auctions are ongoing in several key territories” with the UK rights team managing translation. The book was originally self-published, and has taken BookTok “by storm” according to S&S. The first book, Powerless, will be published in the UK on 6th July 2023 and in the US on 7th November 2023, with book two following in 2024 and book three in 2025. My father believed that was bullshit, and I think no differently. But even if I had proof of the king lying through his teeth, it’s not as though a girl from the slums is in any position to be believed.

Of course it ends in a cliffhanger and it's bad 😭 I have to admit I was expecting something much worse from the way everyone talks about it, but it wasn't unexpected for me. I knew something like this was going to happen, and although it breaks my heart, I'm actually so excited about what it means for the next book. More angst, more tension, more conflicted feelings - I want it all!! This book was veryyy unoriginal 😬 I've heard it was inspired by Red Queen and the Hunger Games and this felt a little TOO similar to those. It's not anything particularly new ngl 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️I’ll be fine,” I state far too casually, ignoring the worry that washes over me. “This is what I do, A. What I’ve always done.” the first half of this book was nearly a copy and paste of the hunger games. while some readers probably want that, it took away from originality for me. i could NOT stop comparing for storyline. (i have not read red queen, so i can’t compare to that one.) wow. this book was absolutely phenomenal. I completely understand why I have only heard good things, because it lived up to the expectations & hype! I finished this one in basically one sitting, it was addicting! There were a couple typos in the book- it definitely could have been edited better. That didn't really affect my rating or enjoyment but just know that before going in.

The book follows Paedyn Gray, an Ordinary, into the Trials of Ilya where she will either succeed or die. But in this Trials, she faces people that have been training for years for these games… sound familiar? This was such an enjoyable read and a really strong debut!! 🤩🤩 If you're looking for a fantasy romance with fast pacing, Hunger Games vibes and a romance with TONS of chemistry, then this is definitely the book for you! I had a really fun time 💜💜🫶🫶And this we can see in how the whole plot is based on The Hunger Games. The Trials are the Games, the Elites are the Capitol, we even have the interviews and sponsors. Paedyn is clearly a Katniss variant and Adeana is a combination of Prim and Cinna. These similarities are unabashedly thrown at the reader’s face. The host of the interviews even has bright blue hair, I’m not joking. kai azer is my new favorite book boyfriend. he gives off such a tristan dugray vibes ( if you know you know :)) and i’m literally living for it. i’m just so in love with confident, flirty and effortlessly funny men who are not scared to show interest. and he was it all. literally he is THE standard.
