This was well-written and imaginative I’m looking forward to reading the next book and finding out what comes next, especially with how we left things here. I definitely recommend reading this if you like dark imaginative fantasy worlds. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of Queen of Roses (Blood of a Fae #1) It’s posed as a dark fantasy romance and while I do think that’s accurate this is not the sort of romance that we are seeing flood this genre right now. It’s a slow burn. Don’t expect instant love and graphic scenes the moment the love birds are alone because this just isn’t that sort of tale. I think that while the romance is very central, the plot tries really hard to assert itself so if you’re purely interested in the romance aspect then this might not be the right fit.

I thoroughly enjoyed this dark fantasy romance, with a spin on King Arthur. It was an easy read for me, and I found myself wanting more, and really enjoying the journey this book took me on! The descriptions of the places really brought the world to life😍 (for eg, King Arthur’s throne room filled with roses). With a captivating plot, there was never a moment where it lost the zeal and it’s said to be a dark fantasy but I didn’t find it that dark😯. Sure, there are a few moments of death and blood, but that’s the bare minimum for a fantasy book.. The world building in this book was so good that I could visualize each place as the characters were walking through them. This is a Camelot / King Authur retelling with a fae twist, I could see the similarities through the book. From the world-building to the character development, the plot twists, and everything in between, this book had me captivated from the beginning. I cannot wait to see what else is in store for Morgan and Draven🌹 This was a great first in a series for a fantasy Arthurian-based tale! There's a lot of potential here. This book is a loose, dark, fae retelling of the story of King Arthur/Camelot and the quest for Excalibur. The writing was captivating and the world-building was done beautifully. When I read fantasy novels, I want to feel as if I have been transported to the world the author is trying to emulate and Briar did just that! I grew up reading stories of King Arthur and the tales of Excalibur; this book felt nostalgic but also as if I was reading a new story, with a new quest to embark on.
