About this deal

But none of this is what upsets Jon about these stairs: he’s used to struggling with things from the last century (he lives with his mother), with dark places (he’s gay), and with foreigners whose incomes are suspect and whose legal situation is equally suspect (Jon is a police inspector).

Juan Gómez-Jurado (December 1977 Madrid, Spain) is an award winning journalist and bestselling author. He is one of the three most successful contemporary Spanish authors along with New York Times bestselling authors Javier Sierra and Carlos Ruiz Zafón. In 2016, Juan celebrated the mark of 6 million readers worldwide. The Red Queen is not a super-graphic book, if you are squeamish. I mean, it’s NOT a cozy by a million miles, but it’s not Karin Slaughter or Thomas Harris level graphic. No la envidio.D’you think you’re the first person Mentor has sent? There were another three before you. The last only six months ago. And I tell all of you the same: I’m not interested.” A boy has been murdered…not just any boy and not in a typical way—he is left completely bloodless and staged in the family home. This is followed by the kidnapping of the daughter of one of the richest men in Spain. Enter a secret group that works in the shadows to resolve crimes that are highly sensitive. The person that really makes it all work is Antonia Scott. Her mind functions in ways that others can’t fathom and her ability is legendary—but after paying a high personal price, she refuses to work. The captain strokes his face, rubbing hard as if he wants to erase the look of disbelief on it. It doesn’t work.

El emblema del traidor, Plaza & Janés, 2008, Spain. Winner of the 2008 Premio de Novela Ciudad de Torrevieja And let's not start with the characters descriptions and personality: poor, with the personality of a three-year-old, they get mad for no reason and their arcs are stupid; going from happy to enemies, to whatever without any reason but to further the plot. And we have to believe that Antonia is a genius, with a super-high IQ? With that behavior, personality and decision-making? Ha! but then they make a very elaborate job of leaving the body with religious connotations (blood, oily hair) just because El corazón me pedía ponerle 5 ESTRELLAS, pero finalmente ha ganado la cabeza y le dejo en 4, que igualmente dice que es una muy buena novela para pillarla y quedarte enganchadito a la lectura. PerSo... this book's blurb reminded me of Salander and I immediately placed a hold. I'm glad I did even though it's nothing like the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books and the MC Antonia was not very believable as a character. There were too many things about her that didn't make sense, too many contradictions and way too many cliches. There were unexpected moments of humor in The Red Queen, which I always appreciate in a thriller. Antonia is a pretty serious person but Jon is a bit more comical and the narration, which is a multi-POV style from the perspective of five characters, also has a few ominisicent jokes. Yet Inspector Gutiérrez is breathing heavily, and his heart is fluttering. Not just because of the stairs. Because it’s not enough for Mentor that Jon should meet his friend Antonia Scott. He’s also demanded something else in return for his help. And from what little Mentor has explained, this second part will be far more difficult.

A slow sort of country!” said the Queen. “Now, here you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!” Fine,” he says before turning on his heel and heading down the corridor, tail between his legs. “But he asked me to tell you that this time it’s different. That this time he really needs you.”Por no hablar de ese final, ¡ESE FINAL! Often compared with Lisbeth Salander . . . Antonia Scott looks destined to leave every bit as lasting an impression' – Daily Mail There are twists and turns aplenty, which always helps. And questions to be answered. Will Carla escape? Will Antonia and Jon uncover who is behind these crimes? Will the usual competitive misery from other forces interfere with the investigation? What is it the kidnappers want and why are those demands not being met? Will Antonia completely fall apart before they can complete their mission? ( We’re all mad here) After accepting the offer, the inspector begins his journey to Lavapiés, Antonia's place of residence. There, he must convince her to work together, a task that will not be easy, since she is submerged in deep sadness. Despite the mess, Jon manages to convince her; and by bringing up the Trueba case, he awakens his police instinct. The unknown
