The world can change. Surgebinding and Shardwielding can return; the magics of ancient days become ours again. These four people are key. Which is why redemption books can be so popular. People can live vicariously through a character’s emotions and experiences, leaving them with valuable lessons that can be applied in real life.

The main character is Eva, who is a deputy for the county. She would like to be tribal police but they are all male. She does do almost all of the work and liaisons when an incident involves someone from the tribe. She often interfaces with Cruz, who is a tribal officer. The book is about this 19-year-old New Zealand guy of Irish heritage, Rory, who loves to sex it up with the ladies and also rides the horses and fights good. Rory's uncle Conor is his role model, even though he barely knew Conor. Conor was in the IRA and got blown up, and Rory knows he is destined for Ireland himself. Then he goes to World War I. First he stops in Cairo and smokes from a lot of hookahs. Then he fights in Gallipolli and loses all his buddies, including the husband of the New Zealand woman he was shagging most recently. War is a bummer, especially World War I.For me this was the biggest issue, there were so many characters that sounded the same, that felt the exact same thing, and described it the exact same way. I get that this is the first book in a series, but there where so many unwanted characters and thoughts brought in, that at stages it was just to much. Just Mercy is at once an unforgettable account of an idealistic, gifted young lawyer’s coming of age, a moving window into the lives of those he has defended, and an inspiring argument for compassion in the pursuit of true justice.

Shaka Senghor was an honors student, a natural leader, and possibly, a future doctor. However, he runs away from an abusive home, becomes a drug dealer, and is imprisoned for murder at only 19 years old. Writing My Wrongs" is the story of what came next. During his nineteen-year incarceration, seven of which were spent in solitary confinement, Senghor discovered literature, meditation, self-examination, and the kindness of others tools he used to confront the demons of his past, forgive the people who hurt him, and begin atoning for the wrongs he had committed. Upon his release at age thirty-eight, Senghor became an activist and mentor to young men and women facing circumstances like his. His work in the community and the courage to share his story led him to fellowships at the MIT Media Lab and the Kellogg Foundation and invitations to speak at events like TED and the Aspen Ideas Festival. But, like in every fairytale, there’s a villain, a dark and tortured soul... I just didn't know that the villain and the hero in my story would end up being one and the same.A powerful true story about the potential for mercy to redeem us, and a clarion call to fix our broken system of justice—from one of the most brilliant and influential lawyers of our time

Richly detailed characters with traumatic pasts are woven together with biblical truths and redemptive themes. . . . This is an amazing, beautifully written tale to be savored and pondered and shared with others." Romantic Times Then she meets Michael Hosea. A man who seeks his Father’s heart in everything, Michael Hosea obeys God’s call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel’s every bitter expectation until, despite her resistance her frozen heart begins to thaw. But finding Paloma will be easier said than done. She has gone missing with three other women from the community, all of them suspected of serious drug use. And who currently has her is something that not even Eva can easily guess at. Which becomes even more of a problem when Paloma's companions start showing up dead...California’s gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep.
