About this deal

This volume contains introductory commentary and notes by Stephen Farrier from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London. ABSORBING... Gifted young cast ...plunges so deeply into the heart of the matter that we respond with whole catalogs of emotion. Shepperd's staging is so crisp that even the between-scenes set changes have a choreography to them. Following a West End run in 2017, Jon Brittain's play Rotterdam embarks on a UK tour, with a production which is as observant, engaging, and heartfelt as it ever was. You can get all of your travel for one day for 7 euros, for 2 days for 10.50 euros and 3 days for14 euros. If your journey will not take too long , it might be cheaper to get the travel pass for 1 hour for 3 euros, for 2 hours for 3.50 euros and for 2×1 hour rides for 6 euros.

There is lots bubbling behind the sitcom exterior of a play that is often very funny, engaging and sharply observant about human nature, but Brittain’s facility for writing engaging dialogue means that he doesn’t always dig as deeply into the characters as the subject demands. They have lots of feelings, but not fully rounded lives. Donnacadh O’Briain’s production has a pleasing, pop-like shininess but he does let things get a bit shouty, particularly in the second half.Ellan Parry's compact set design situates Rotterdam in a box, filled with neon colours and LED signs. Accompanied by Keegan Curran's thumping pop music which is played in (quite long) scene changes, you'd think you're in a nightclub. Parry's bright colours are significant; in a room full of blue balloons lies a singular pink one, and it is only fitting that whilst Alice wears a pink party hat, Adrian sports a matching blue one. To say that this is just a wood is to fall short of what is actually on offer to nature lovers here. Kralingse Wood covers a huge area and is much larger than any of the other parks and also is thought by many to be the most beautiful. It is greatly enhanced by the large lake,(Kralingse Lake) that is within it’s boundaries. Being a wood there is, of course, a huge amount of trees to wander around and picnic by. But if fancy a little more stylish cuisine then there are some fine restaurants around the edge of the lake. Zuiderpark Rotterdam One of only 11 World Heritage–listed cultural sights in the Netherlands, this concrete, steel and glass factory on the banks of a canal northwest of Centrum is a modernist masterpiece. Conceived by architects Johannes Brinkman and Leendert van der Vlugt as an ‘ideal factory,’ where interior working spaces evolved according to need and where daylight was maximised to provide healthy and enjoyable working conditions, it became a powerful symbol of European modernity when it opened in 1931.

A bittersweet story with deeply relatable characters that are flawed and hilarious. Rotterdam is a comedy with powerful questions about love and identity at its core. The Park is possibly not the most inspiringly named park, but it does, at least leave you in no doubt as to what to expect. The Park is in fact a very beautiful and well laid out garden that also encompasses many ponds, tree’s and some interesting buildings, such as the Heerenhuy’s and the Norwegian sailors church. There is also a very fine cafe in the gardens for those that require some extra energy for the walks around The Park. If the open air is more your style then consider seeing the city on the seat of a bike. There is a network of well maintained bike paths throughout the city and during fair weather it can be an enjoyable way to get around. The visual elements of Adrian’s changing identity are dealt with sensitively, and at times to heartbreaking effect. In one scene, Adrian, desperate to hold onto Alice, rips his clothes off and, in a fit of self-loathing, downs whisky and dons a dress and heels before collapsing onto Josh, the picture of pain.

Rotterdam Tourism

Rotterdam received its world premiere at Theatre503, London, in October 2015, before transferring to Trafalgar Studios, London, in May 2016. Thinking about who we are, where we fit, and what our identity means in a contemporary context is a key discussion in our current culture, especially for young adults. Recent important social movements have attuned everyday discourse in learning environments to the challenges and pleasures of diversity, inclusion, and respect. Rotterdam's writing precedes much of this discussion and can be thought of an antecedent of the kinds of debate happening today. Rotterdam sits in a long tradition of realist playscripts depicting an individual's challenge as emblematic of a wider social discourse. Form and movement The themes in the play circulate in the domestic sphere; they are about the characters, their relationships and family. But they also extend to deeper and broader matters. Coming out, for instance, forms a fundamental part of the narrative – indeed the play's narrative fuel stems from this kind of moment. But coming out figures in the play for most of the characters as coming to know oneself more profoundly. An urgently important play, intelligently exploring territory which other writers haven’t yet really touched It is such a topical and engaging story that brings the human experience in all its shapes and forms

It’s also a must-see destination for those interested in cutting-edge design. Though compact, the city offers an extraordinary varied array of sights and experiences to keep the visitor busy, not to mention a wealth of trendy spots to grab a drink or something to eat.

Brittain’s brilliant play is truly universal in its scope...in a single moment, everything changes. Few European cities are as exhilarating as Rotterdam. Almost completely destroyed during WWII, its urban reconstruction has been a triumphant exercise in embracing innovation – the resulting architecture and urban planning have endowed its streets and neighbourhoods with a personality and energy that make it a great place to visit. But while there are many difficult moments like this, Rotterdam's central tenet is never far away. And while I won't reveal how Alice and Adrian's story ends, I will say that, in many ways, love wins. But the play does not skimp on the gravity of the issues, nor on the challenges it presents to production. The set, for instance, is multipurposed – one moment it is an apartment, the next a coffee shop. At one point the audience see characters in different bits of the city simultaneously. The use of concurrent scenes running at different times and locations present not only an interesting and juicy theatrical problem to wrestle, but the settings also feed the subtext of the play and emphasise its themes. Themes Rotterdam has great nightlife as you would expect in such a modern city. Near to the center you will find Stadhuisplein has many bars and clubs located nearby and the “student area” where you can get a great night out without breaking the bank.
