Life unfolds in experiences, mistakes, and moments- it's part of growing up and maturing. And thematically this book really shines in conveying that, in giving us a messy story with young people trying to figure out their big feelings, trying to work through big mistakes, and trying to figure out just who they are and what they want. This is a story about the courage it takes to find yourself, to go on this crazy journey of life, to muddle through the messy art of living and loving with grace for yourself...and others. Meagan’s debut novel, called “Fumbled Hearts”, was released in the year 2017. She writes the “Brayshaw High” series and the “Tender Hearts” series, as well as some stand alone work.

Although this is a very long audiobook, I didn’t feel like it dragged on at all. The pacing was excellent. Early on, I thought it was going in one direction and then it took a turn I wasn’t expecting. I like how there was plenty of time given to really explore the depth of the feelings of all the characters. I also appreciated the concept of friends that grew to be family. Sarah McEwan, who portrays Arianna, is new to me, and all I can say is, “Wow!” Her character has such an emotional journey and she does a wonderful job conveying it all. And boy, does Ms. Brandy give her some challenging material.

The smut doesn’t start until about 50% in. It really disturbed me that he didn’t wear a condom or even discuss birth control with Ari yet he supposedly cared about her. They’re 18 and 21. They weren’t ready for a baby yet. Boys of Brayshaw High” is the first novel in the “Brayshaw High” series, and was released in the year 2019. Girls like Raven (also called RaeRae) are not exactly welcomed at a school like this, she needs to keep her head down and continue to look the other way. These are the words her social worker told her as she dropped her into the newest hellhole, it was a place for ‘troubled teens’. Raven didn’t listen and has now gotten onto their radar.

I love love love this book. It had the right amount of drama without drawing it out, while keeping the storyline moving forward. For years, I've dreamt of what college life could bring and while some things changed, there was always one constant. Chapt 12 had my heart in flutters and heartbreak yet relieved for a new girl to come out of her shell ….
