About this deal

Having tried many different recipes for dark gold, one of the best looking i’ve found is deceptively simple. I start with a smooth base layer of Retributor Armour, then add a single very heavy coat of Agrax Earthshade. While i’m sure better results could be achieved with a 12 step NMM approach, this does a bloody good job for little effort. Vallejo airbrush metallics are fantastic, even when brushed on. VMA Gunmetal has completely replaced Leadbelcher for me, though the watery consistency can take a moment to get used to. I’ve used VMA Aluminium in the past as a bright silver which has perfect coverage, but it’s a hair too bright for my tastes. Skin The folds in the cloak are well-sculpted and were such a pleasure to paint in my style. I used Screamer Pink and added a little bit of off-white for highlights. When you add white, it will desaturate the colours. We don’t always want this, but it helped make sure the cloak didn’t get too vibrant and overpowering. Basecoat of Warpstone Glow Wash of Agrax Earthshade Touch up large surfaces and ridges/details with additional layers of Warpstone Glow until they reach a smooth and bright appearance Edge highlight with a 4/1 mix of Warpstone Glow and Wraithbone. This gives the highlights a bit of a muted color tone, but it looks pretty decent on the table. You could certainly opt to highlight with a brighter green such as Moot Green or its equivalent Perform touchups of Agrax in areas that may have caught some paint or need to be darkened Salamanders Lieutenant. Currently, the difference between the colours isn’t enormous, but it’s there, and it adds some depth which will give some semblance of colour variation on the final model. Mini, my actual pet cat by Dan “The Sex Cannon” Boyd Mini, acrylic on canvas. Dan Boyd circa 2012 The reference photo of Mini in her natural habitat: getting caught in something and screaming at me until I let her out. Make sure you carefully consider the light source illuminating your model when doing these highlights. Step 4 – (Optional) The Power Swords I added an edge highlight of Dechala Lilac over the highlights the Shyish Purple Contrast paint has created. I used Genestealer Purple as an intermediate highlight where needed, but the Contrast paint should do most of the groundwork. The eye lenses follow the typical style for doing lenses and have a reasonably simple set of colours too. I start with khorne red as the base, then add a single layer each of wazdakka, wild rider, fire dragon and flash gitz working towards the brightest point. Sometimes on a bigger lense I will add a transition mix between each colour but you can get away without that on a surprising number of things. Next up for the reflection I use a simple white to draw it in, its worth mentioning that I use the same basic recipe for screens and targeting laser just replacing the white reflection with flash gitz!I painted the off-yellow skin in slightly different ways on my Barbgaunts, Psychophage, and Von Ryan’s Leapers – employing various combos of Plaguebearer Flesh and thinned-down Nazdreg Yellow over a Wraithbone base, with highlights ranging from Dorn Yellow to Flayed One Flesh – but they all still look like closely-related beasties. I’ve got yet another approach in mind for my Termagants… Make sure to take your time with this, as you don’t want to get any Screamer Pink on the silver of your Space Marine’s armour. Evil Sunz Scarlet in a smaller crescent atop the previous one, leaving space for the Khorne Red towards the center

The gold is mostly pretty typical other then the using contrast to get a really rich colour along with a dry brush of Liberator, I quite like how it turned out! I painted the lilac details with two layers of Shyish Purple, about 2:1 mixed with Contrast Medium for a more even result. The gold was done with a base coat of Citadel Retributor Armor, an all over wash of Citadel Druchii Violet, chunky highlight with Citadel Auric Gold, and a final highlight of Vallejo Silver. This is the airbrushing stage. After priming with Uniform Grey Color Primer from The Army Painter (any medium to light primer will work; I chose a mid-grey one as it’s a good medium colour for purple and compliments the grey texture of my bases), I basecoated the model with Purple Worm from The Army Painter’s D&D line [ Kakophoni Purple is very similar]. Then, I carefully build up a zenithal highlight with several thin coats of Corax White (this needs a good amount of airbrush thinner) sprayed at an angle from above. If you’re not familiar with a zenithal highlighting, I recommend browsing YouTube for appropriate tutorials. If you don’t have an airbrush available, you could use Alien Purple Color Primer from The Army Painter for the basecoat, and then some thin coats of Corax White spray from above. You will have much more control with an airbrush, though. The pink is Liquitex INK! Magenta painted over the tongue. You may find yourself having to re-do the base after the blue gets everywhere; for the tongue don’t worry about applying more drybrushing or anything. I just cover the mistakes with Bonewhite and move on. For a little extra depth you can apply a wash of AP Purple Tone, but it’s not necessary in this case.Once your brown is on, take some Screamer Pink and do the wax parts of the purity seals as well as the power sword handle. Averland Sunset or Yriel Yellow could be used to add some brightness and cheer to your models and create a contrasting colour scheme.

So I had a mildly intrusive thought a bunch of times when painting, which was that these have some details that slightly remind me of the grunts from halo. Specifically their forearms being slightly thicc, and something about their leaned over pose. Lizzie: Like many, painting yellow has always been a challenge for me. Not any more! Imperial Fist, alongside Ironjawz Yellow and Bad Moon Yellow, provides the perfect solution to your yellow painting needs. As such, we’ve put together a separate guide and video to coach you through this process. These aren’t relevant to most Silver Templar’s anyway.Chaos Space Marines: Screamer Pink can be used as an accent colour on Chaos Space Marines models to add some vibrancy to their armor and equipment. So, without further ado, on to this guide, which covers the Namarti Thralls of the Idoneth Deepkin:
