The hands are clean and elegant. They are made of polished metal and are rectangular but with bevels on each side so that they reflect the light. And oh does this watch reflect the light well. The hands have applied Lumibrite on them for legibility. The lume is good but it’s not exceptional. But that’s not really what we need in an everyday watch anyways. A: Yes, one of the core principles of Seiko 5 watches is that they are automatic. This means they are self-winding and powered by the natural motion of the wearer's wrist. The dial of the SNX79 keeps it from being boring. The watch has a lovely ”dark rhodium”/ dark grey dial with a striking sunburst finis. This makes for a playful dial that reflects the light beautifully. If you are looking for a simple, clean, yet beautiful automatic everyday timepiece, the Seiko 5 SNXS77 may be the watch you are looking for. Regardless, to have a sturdy and reliable automatic movement at this price point is still a great value proposition from Seiko.

To begin with, this watch is part of the Seiko 5 collection. This collection is Seiko’s entry-level watch collection which all meets 5 criteria (hence the name 5). Amongst those criteria, they all have automatic movements, decent water resistance, a durable case, and a recessed crown, to mention a few. This collection in particular is praised for the great value it offers in relation to its price. The watch has a lovely and striking sunburst dial which reflects the light beautifully. The beautiful thing about sunburst dials is that they change their personality depending on how the light hits them. This is really the star of the show.To keep the watch’s elegant design, it keeps its dial printing at a minimum. It has an ”Automatic” printing and applied Seiko and Seiko 5 logo. Seiko 5 SNXS77 Movement It has a full satin finish, which, in my opinion, creates a nice contrast to the all-polished case, but since there is no other element of the watch that is bushed, it can give the impression that this bracelet was not made for this watch. But at least I think that the brushed end links which sit against the polished case create a nice contrast. It would just have been nice if at least some of the other parts of the bracelet would have been polished as well. All in all the Seiko SNXS77 offers exceptional value for money in my view, it’s a classic design watch so not much in the way of any fancy bells or whistles going on with the dial etc. The watch has a water resistance of 30M/3ATM. This is a downside of this movement as it is certainly not a lot. It can handle water splashes but should not be submerged. At the same time, it is important to consider that this watch is made as an everyday timepiece, and therefore, good water resistance is not crucial.

Overall, the all-stainless steel design adds some sportiness to the case design, but its all-polished case makes it lean more towards a classy dress watch than a sporty tool watch. But don’t let that fool you, because the Seiko 5s are notoriously known for being robust and durable.

Almost every single piece, however, because there are a few tiny little elements that Rolex still has made elsewhere. The hands, for example, are made just down the road at a company called Fiedler. Semantics, really, compared to pretty much every other watchmaker, whose parts are sourced from supply chains across Switzerland. By comparison, Seiko doesn’t stand a chance. Or does it? Sitting on top of the case is Seiko’s proprietary Hardlex crystal. This is a hardened mineral crystal that is much more durable and scratch-resistant than regular mineral glass, but it is not as tough as sapphire crystal. But at this price point, a sapphire crystal is rare. The bracelet has some play and some rattle but it is comfortable to wear, and due to its relatively lightweight, occasionally, you won’t even notice it is there. All in all, the Seiko 5 SNX79 is a watch that offers exceptional value. It has a clean and elegant design which is complemented by a striking grey sunburst dial. It is of course equipped with a robust and durable automatic movement which has proven to be a workhorse. The Seiko 5 SNXS77 is a simple, clean, and elegant watch that offers great value for money. Priced at just over 100 USD, it offers exceptional value for money. It is clean, elegant, and powered by a workhorse automatic movement.
