About this deal

To my eyes, images look crisp enough on this screen and are well-defined. However, because of the screen size the touch functions well but it takes some getting used to due to the small amount of swipe that has to be applied. Shanling M1s supports decoding for most audio signals including PCM up to 32-Bit/768kHz and native DSD512 audio signals. Its hardware has been upgraded to support MQA(Master Quality Audio) Signals as well.

I mean, It’s good to have this app, and is much appreciated but you can always transmit from any music app you have via Bluetooth to the M1s and it will work almost the same. This also applies to IOS users so don’t feel like the M1s will not fulfill certain duties. Who knows you might be able to get m1s for not much more. I assume you're talking about Canadian dollars. I'm also assuming m1s is going to sound a bit better than the other small daps. All speculation at this point. I'm with you on M0 pro- cool but screen will be too small for me. The I/O is rather complex on this DAP but not hard to make it all work. Onboard there are dual two and two sets of connections, two are the 3.5mm and the 4.4mm Pentaconn connector and the other two are a USB-C port plus a slot for a micro SD card. Of course, the M1s performs slightly better, it has twice the power and a dual amplifier chip setup plus a beefier processor. But this is only in certain circumstances, for example, in case you want to push less efficient IEMs. Oh, and how did I get the extra discount? I asked them for it now I have bought several other hidizs products previously, and I like their stuff. So you can call it a fan discount or customer appreciation discount. Some of these Chinese companies are pretty accommodating. I asked fiio for a battery after the warranty on my dap expired - 2 years and they shipped me one free of charge.Fixed issue causing system freezing when accessing files on high-capacity cards / High number of files Since the M0 Pro was recently reviewed and is fresh in the memory bank I thought it would make an interesting comparison and contrast device. Even though they’re similar devices with similar features. Shanling uses their Mtouch 2.0 OS on the M1s and it seems to thoroughly separate folder lookup options this time. The music lookup options are more specifically divided. There are 3 screens full of options to choose from upon inspection. Shanling covers the specs generously because I got a little over 16 hours using a very efficient 16Ω IEM at half volume or less. All the efficient IEMs I tested gave me the same basic results. The bottom line here is that the battery will get you through an entire day if you use IEMs. The DAC inside of the M1S is an ESS ES9038Q2M DAC Chip, which we’ve seen before in some beefy products, for example Hiby R6 III has a dual configuration of those DACs, but also Shanling Ua5, which also has two, HIDIZS S9 PRO, Dethonray SG1 Pegasus, and also SMSL C200. The DAC chip itself won’t be a strong indicator of the performance of the product, as it is much more important how it is implemented and the electronics that accompany it for the final sound. In this aspect, Shanling M1s comes with Dual Independent RT6863 AMP Chips, to create a balanced signal, and the balanced signal has a high maximum power of 245 mW for an impedance of 32 OHMs. The Single Ended output is considerably weaker, at a max power output of 144mW for a 32 OHM load.

The Shanling M0 Pro box design is decorated to be bright and colorful, similar to the box its big brother the M3 Ultra comes in. They seem to have a dual-sun theme going on the front of the insert. The main product box is a very bright orange color. There’s an ample amount of digital format capability within the Shanling M1s DAC section. Data housekeeping is performed by Japanese-made KDS dual-band oscillators. There’s also an SS1712 FPGA chip.Shanling M1s follows the legacy of M1 and Q1 portable music players. It has an ultra-compact lightweight design with metallic chassis. The player has a firm design that provides a comfortable grip. Its compact design allows the user to carry the M1s anywhere they want. It’s an ideal choice for jogging, working out, cycling, or any other activity. When it comes to sound, first of all, let me comment on this little player’s power. I tried a bunch of full-sized headphones and IEMs with this player, and it could drive all of them (both dynamic and planar) with good speed and dynamics, especially from the balanced output.

Using demanding full-sized headphones gave different results and the listed times went under what Shanling posted of course. So Shanling is being modest with their listed time since you could probably pass their listed specs mark by moderating the volume and using very efficient IEMs. The staging capabilities are good and my only critique would be a slight loss of sharpness and definition around elements that gets a small smear treatment due to the overall smoothness in the overall presentation. It’s a choice between Shreek and sharp or smooth and relaxing. I prefer the latter. Moving over to “fue mejor” by Kali Uchis, I was impressed by the dynamics of this player; it played with a lot of speed and bass depth through the Audeze earphones and kept my head nodding through the whole song. I have never heard of a player with so much musicality and life at this price. Shanling M1S Review: Conclusion I would leave it alone since not only does that soften the overall signature but hiss is also contained even further since it’s at those high frequencies that hiss occurs mostly. Again, most of these devices have an inactivity mute feature so it would be difficult to provoke any hiss production. Staging & Dynamics The M1s seems to be a model that sits in between two of the previously mentioned models. It’s a model that’s not a full-sized, full-blown Android DAP but I wouldn’t consider it an ultra-mini DAP either since it’s at least twice the size of the M0 Pro, for example. The small Shanling M0 Pro surely feels sturdy since the main body is made from a solid chunk of aluminum which is then CNC-shaped. The Shanling M0 Pro looks like a miniature M3 Ultra. It has similar slotted sides and a similar multifunction rotary volume knob.
