About this deal

I discovered the Shopbop maternity section (a FANTASTIC curated selection of high quality + on-trend maternity pieces) and scrolled through their maternity denim options. I settled on a classic pair of Madewell maternity jeans (mostly because the price was quite a bit lower than some designer maternity jeans listed but still promised to be better than the GAP and Old Navy jeans I had in my maternity bin). First impressions:

This is the most common wash/cut/fit of Madewell maternity jeans that I’ve seen but they also have a few other pairs. As my pregnancy went on my belly got bigger and I gained some weight everywhere else and these fit perfectly. So what are your options when it comes to maternity pants? There’s a few different types of pants to keep in mind when shopping. As you start your search for the best maternity jeans to wear, you'll have to decide if you want to relax in the stretch of jeggings or another style. Denim styles have changed significantly over the past few years. A straight-leg jean with a more rigid denim looks more modern, Holobinko says. However, the best maternity jeans fit your style and make you feel confident. With this guidance in mind, we researched more than 30 options on the market. When reviewing products, we carefully considered lifestyle, size range, material, washing instructions, and overall value. What are the different styles of maternity jeans? Here are a few of the most common terms you'll come across when shopping:ps. Never fear – I’m not actually pregnant again. These pics are from my second pregnancy. Little Pax will be 1 in Nov. Sob! It may be tempting to just buy your usual style of jeans in a bigger size but this doesn’t generally work because, while your abdomen may be fast expanding, the rest of your body will remain the same or thereabouts. There’s so much stretch in the fabric that wearing them – even for an hour or so – leaves you with a saggy bum and billowing thighs. Your budget, lifestyle, and style sensibilities will also dictate what the best pair of maternity pants is for you. They look and feel just like regular Madewell denim with a full belly panel. Side Panel vs. Full Belly Panel Maternity Jeans

Signature by Levi Strauss & Co. is Levi's "value conscious" line, which means that price tags are lower, and the material used for jeans is a bit thinner and softer than traditional heavy denim. They don't wear as well over the long term as other jeans, but since you won't be in these for long, the downsides don't matter, and you'll find Signature jeans to be cuter, comfier, and more giving than competitors. Enter panels. Maternity pants can be constructed a few different ways: with side panels (often V-shaped elastic sewn into both sides of the waistband), an under-the-bump panel, or an over-the-bump panel that's typically large enough to pull all the way up and over your bump throughout your entire pregnancy. Also be sure to try on several different styles and sizes. A waistband that sits even lower in the front would be better for moms carrying low. As far as we’re concerned, side-panel is the way to go. J. Brand is the favorite of both M and I…although I now see that Paige Premium is jumping on the side-panel bandwagon. Yay! Bring on more side-panels!! Sizes: 6 - 18, R, L | Waistband: Side panels | Material: 81% cotton, 13% recycled polyester, 6% elastane What we love

H&M come up time and time again when Mumsnetters take to the boards to ask for maternity jean recommendations - and while some would argue that skinny jeans have had their day, you can't beat the classic style for comfort and ease of styling when it comes to a maternity wardrobe staple. These H&M MAMA jeans come in a huge range of colours and sizes and look just as great with a baggy jumper as they would with a floaty summer blouse, making them a great investment buy if your pregnancy goes over several seasons. I can’t say enough good things about these jeans. The side panels give you just enough stretch as you grow, without sacrificing the fit in the bum. These jeans look amazing and fit well through your whole pregnancy. And well into the post-partum stage.

Why you should trust us

Sizes: 8 - 20 | Waistband: Over bump | Material: Main: 99% cotton and 1% elastane. Lining: 65% polyester and 35% cotton. What we love Under-the-bump: a jersey panel with a supportive band of wide elastic. This is ideal for the earlier stages of pregnancy. I've just bought a few pairs from Next. They have the elastic side panels and 'grow with you' rather than have the fabric that goes over your bump. They fit lovely and are very comfy."(Recommended by Mumsnet user Flutterby8) Our verdict

Fancy something a bit different? Coated stretch denim jeans can be dressed up with a nice top or dressed down with chunky sandals or trainers. They’re a bit sassier than your regular denims and are super flattering too.

8. Best maternity jeans for short and long legs: River Island Maternity Molly Overbump Skinny Jean

Because there is so much stretch in the fabric and the hidden elastic in the waistband (exactly like little kid jeans), these jeans fit throughout your entire pregnancy. Soft fabric with good recovery through stretch is best for the material in maternity jeans, too. “Our core denim was selected as it feels like the perfect worn and loved jeans right off the shelf,” McGowan says. “The element of stretch helps give you a bit of give as your body shifts and helps keep its shape,” she continues. “Our slim jeans have a high element of stretch so they can move with you easily and be forgiving on the body while still having that fitted silhouette.” Similarly,DL1961's Creative Director Sarah Ahmedsays the brand focuses on offering a range of inseams, fits, and fashion details that cater to those who are pregnant, specifically. “We treat our maternity denim the same as our mainline denim,” she says. “We take our most popular mainline silhouettes, from skinny and straight to boyfriend and bootcut, and tailor them to accommodate the various needs of pregnancy dressing.” H&M do comfy maternity shorts (denim)... I bought a pair and have been living in them during the hot weather!"(Tried and tested by Mumsnet user mummabubs) Our verdict A full panel is great for second time moms – amazing during those first few ‘fat-or-pregnant?’ months -it helps to smooooth and hold everything in.
