Description

SIN (Dark Island Scot book 2) I highly recommend you read the first book “Ruin” before reading this one because you will understand it better Nothing had ever felt so good. I was instantly addicted to the rush. Her touch. Her every move. Chemicals washed over me, changing me." Was I entertained? Not really. Did I like the story? Yes, more the premise. Would I read the other book in the series? No, I am not sure if I personally connect with the authors style and that’s more of a me thing. I may need to read another book to see. This was a wild ride of figuring out how much of your parents influences who you are as a person, fighting against immorality, finding out who you are, and finding people who care about you more than you had experienced before. And I love how this theme has carried through all of these boys' books so far, and can't wait to see where the next book, Burn, takes us!

Ruin (Dark Island Scots #1) by Jolie Vines is a romantic suspense told in first person from multiple points of view. It’s the first book in a series with a continuing storyline, and as such, it ends with a cliffhanger. The story follows the relationship between Thea Stewart and Struan Gallagher—aka “Ruin”—as Thea uncovers the sinister secrets of the remote island she visits twice a year. Most of the story is told from Thea’s and Struan’s perspectives, but there are seven other character POVs, ranging from one-to-three chapters each.

The British author Jolie Vines is well known for her interesting and entertaining style of writing that instantly grabs the reader. Mostly writing contemporary romance novels, she really sets herself apart, giving her readers exactly what they want, while saying something unique in the process. This has seen her become a household name for many around the world, establishing a brand that is very much her own. Drawing many influences from a range of different fellow authors too, she’s definitely an inspired novelist with a lot to offer.

Tropes: dark romance; instant attraction; extended family trials; cinnamon roll hero; romantic suspense Now.. can I talk about how I now have a tattooing kink? Did not expect that at all and it was so damn hot!!!! To brand someone like that?! Hot. Hot. Hot. Not to mention my favorites from other books of Jolie’s make an appearance as well. Such a treat. And of course this wouldn’t be one of Jolie’s masterminds if it didn’t leaving me needing more. Cannot wait for the next book in this series. These Dark Island men are everything! This is Camden (Scar) and Breeze's story. I'll be honest. I wasn’t sure what I would think of it. I didn't have an instant like towards Breeze. Camden? Yes, but I've loved him since the first book. Breeze just didn't sit well with me. And I think that's because she instantly judged him. She knew he was McInver's son and just assumed he was a rich playboy with his father's deviant tendencies. You know what they say about assumptions. I also thought she was idiotic (not naive, I could overlook being naive) for putting herself in the same situation twice without thinking of the repercussions. I liked her more by the end but mostly because Camden loved her. I just really didn't. I also enjoyed this book more because there were a lot of developments in the other plots. This is a dark romance with a little bit of thriller to it and mystery. This family of brothers was kidnapped and kept hidden so that the father would give the inheritance to someone else. But the story evolved to much more in the other books and on this one so much is happening but in a good way. I loved the mystery parts! Something I've never gotten on board with is reading a series revolving around the same main couple. I want a NEW story, a NEW love, a NEW happy ever after. That's what makes this series so amazing... you get a new couple, including a to die for hero every time, but... BUT... you get the amazing supportive cast of the rest of the family, and as the story evolves, so do all of THEIR love stories. I really enjoyed this third installment in Jolie Vines’ Marry the Scot series. The hero of this book is Gordain, younger brother of Callum, the male lead in book one. He’s also the tattooed helicopter pilot best friend to James from book two... That is the installment that laid the groundwork for this romance. It is where Gordain met James’ younger sister, Ella, and helped her escape from the clutches of her evil uncle Richard.

I know this review is all over the place, but that's the way this book left me feeling... my emotions are all over the place. I'm so happy for Scar and Breeze, I love that she fit so perfectly with his family. But I'm so anxious about Burn and Cassie and I don't see how this little group of misfits is going to get a happy ever after for their family. While I loved Gordain's brother, Callum in Storm the Castle, I think I enjoyed this story even more. Gordain is the kind of tortured hero I like to read about. He has high standards for himself, and when he feels he has done something to besmirch his honor, his disappointment in himself is the stuff of legend. He cannot see the hero in himself that Ella sees, and he cannot see the worthiness that his brothers see. All he sees is his mess. The third instalment in the Marry the Scot contemporary romance series takes you away to big love in the splendour of the Scottish Highlands. You'll adore this modern-day hot Scot and his delicate and determined musician.

However their were parts I thought could have been explained a little bit better and parts that using common sense could have solved the problem but where would the excitement be in that… Defective?” Her eyes darted between Lou’s expression of fake sympathy and the small bite of scone Callum hadn’t eaten yet. “It looked fine.” I really enjoyed this book and although the haven’t read the previous books in the series, I had no trouble; reading this one as a stand alone. This is Gordain and Ella’s story and it was a captivating one. Gordain is best friend’s with Ella’ brother James and he comes to her rescue when James asks him to help Ella escape from their evil uncle Richard. The premise of the story was appealing; it’s what drew me to the book and the cover. Struan at times gave me the bad boy imagine, especially when around, sweet innocent Thea. Thea was super sweet and gave this story balance. There were different POV and that was interesting as well.

Ruin was my first book by Jolie and I wasn’t disappointed. I went into this book blindly and was surprise how much I enjoyed it. This had a thriller feel to it, so it kept me on high alert 🚨 THAT IT NO MORE SPOILERS. I spoiled one scene but I will say get ready for complex characters and ALOT of tense, suspense, action scenes and of couse romance that you will LOVE. Just a perfect read & a refreshing read😍 The sighting of the other McRae's warmed my heart as well as the family that you could see building between the boys. They may not always like their family, but they will always love them. I was attached and felt like I was there on the island experiencing these events with the characters. II read into the early morning hours because I couldn't put this down. From an early age Jolie Vines would always be lost in her own imagination, so it made sense for her to invest herself in her writing. This would prove to be huge successful as time went on, as she’d show a gift for it, becoming a hugely entertaining writer herself. With a passion for strong heroes, she would develop her craft and style as an author, becoming a strong voice in the romance community.

Breeze is searching for her missing sister, diving into the world their mother used to live in and following her sisters steps in hopes of finding her. All of that gets sidelined when a giant idiot comes barging in with his un-needed protectiveness. Seeing Camden and Breeze fall for each other while healing from their past trauma was something I needed. These poor men suffered so much because of McInver and seeing them heal and find love has this reader smiling and giggling. Camden, I feel like, needed to heal the most. He was dealing with all the things in these books, and because he rarely talked about his past, that needed to happen. Finding out how he got his scar broke my heart. Breeze also had some healing to do, and I can’t wait to see her growth continue in the next book. I didn't fly through this book as fast as the others. I found it a bit slow. I think that's because 1). It focuses almost solely on Scar and Breeze. We don't get a lot of the family that I've come to love. 2) It's setting up for the final book in the series.
