Description

Yes, it was not happy, but it was certainly fascinating. The Path of the Open Hand has been a very ominous presence in the story since the beginning of this Phase and seeing the way things twisted and ended up was satisfying and unnerving all at the same time. And, of course, their fate was very closely tied with the fate of the Ro cousins. Filling in the blanks to the events from Cataclysm and closing the story of The Path of the Open Hand, Cavan Scott delivers the closing notes to this period in a very befitting turn of events. This is a must-read for fans of Marda and Yana and any who might be curious about the origins behind familiar evereni!

There’s an emotional rawness to Matty that we don’t often see in other Jedi. She’s not afraid to wear her emotions on her robe sleeves or speak out with sarcasm and bluntness when she senses something amiss.

As a sequel to Path of Deceit, this story basically spoils that Kevmo (the Jedi lead of that book) was killed at the end. The same goes for Yana's girlfriend and the Herald's daughter, Kor Plouth. Vildar and Tey will forever be some of my new favorite characters, especially Tey, and expending any extra amount of time with their banter and sassiness, even if it is two different brands of it, was exactly what I needed to make this book the perfect ending. Exploring more of Oliviah's character was nice but the definite highlight was having Matty here. As a result, these cults turn into massive echo chambers where everyone gets radicalized over time. When Phase I began, only the Mother and the Herald would resort to violence. A trio of adventure-seekers set off to find the legendary Planet X and save the galaxy as they know it! The first act (which takes place during the Battle of Jedha) effectively spoils how The High Republic (2022) ends, which at the time this novel had released, had not yet released its last two issues (although both would release shortly after in a short span of time to catch up).

It’s no surprise that author Cavan Scott has landed another hit with Path of Vengeance. The author is one of the most beloved writers in Star Wars literature.

Customer reviews

In Path of Vengeance, Matty refuses to bottle up her anger, fear, or grief for the sake of keeping it cool. Matty loses her cool a lot in Path of Vengeance, but it’s never seen as a weakness. Her compassion and care for others, herself, and the Force is her greatest strength. While a lot of time passes between The High Republic and the prequel films, there are key clues pointing to the vast differences we see in the Jedi between these two eras. Every book in The High Republic offers an important view and commentary on the philosophies of the Jedi, the leaders of the galaxy, and the biggest threats to peace and prosperity in a galaxy far, far away.

A pair of new synopses for the next wave of High Republic novels has dropped. The next adult novel, The High Republic: Cataclysm, received its official description less than a week ago; now we have a couple more for Path of Vengeance and Quest for Planet X. Cavan Scott doesn't write good books, but he does write entertaining ones. In a similar vein to The Rising Storm, the prose is sloppy and melodramatic but has a certain charm and readability to it. You want to like Cavan Scott, not necessarily as an author but as someone who would be a blast to hang out with. He's having fun writing Star Wars stories and he wants you to have fun reading them. This is a spoiler free review so I won’t go too deep into plot but will you laugh? Yes! Will you cry? Most definitely. Will you curse Cavan Scott’s name through an andrenaline fuelled bout of hysteria? Oh, for sure. Despite rumors of conflict between the Jedi and the Path of the Open Hand, two of the Republic’s most powerful prospecting families announce a contest to chart new hyperlanes.

The young adult novel, written by Cavan Scott and published by Disney Lucasfilm Press, reintroduces and prominently features some of the characters from Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland’s Path of Deceit from earlier in Phase 2 of The High Republic. Jedi can be afraid. Jedi can be scared. There’s no shame in it. Everyone is scared at one time or another. The difference for a Jedi is that we know fear is fleeting and should never win. A Jedi never runs from their fear. They face it, safe in the knowledge that the Force is with them, and they are one with the Force. The Force is with them, and they are one with the Force. The Force is with them, and they are one with the Force!”
