About this deal

Historically, katana ( 刀) were one of the traditionally made Japanese swords ( 日本刀, nihontō) [48] [49] that were used by the samurai of feudal Japan. [50] Modern versions of the katana are sometimes made using non-traditional materials and methods. The katana is characterized by its distinctive appearance: a curved, slender, single-edged blade usually with a round guard and long grip to accommodate two hands. This sword is characterized by its curved blade and unique hilt. The hilt features two quillions that point towards the tip of the blade. The hilt is also uniquely made of iron with a cup-shaped or rounded pommel.

The kilij pictured above has an elaborate design featuring inscriptions and large stones. These were thought to ward off the evil eye. The Ottomans' historical dominance of the region ensured the use of the sword by other nations, notably the Mamluks in Egypt. During the Napoleonic Wars, the French conquest of Egypt brought these swords to the attention of the Europeans. This type of sabre became very popular for light cavalry officers, in both France and Britain, and became a fashionable sword for senior officers to wear. In 1831 the "Mamaluke", as the sword was now called, became a regulation pattern for British general officers (the 1831 Pattern, still in use today). The American victory over the rebellious forces in the citadel of Tripoli in 1805 during the First Barbary War, led to the presentation of bejewelled examples of these swords to the senior officers of the US Marines. Officers of the US Marine Corps still use a mameluke pattern dress sword. Although some genuine Turkish kilij sabres were used by Westerners, most "mameluke sabres" were manufactured in Europe; their hilts were very similar in form to the Ottoman prototype, but their blades, even when an expanded yelman was incorporated, tended to be longer, narrower and less curved than those of the true kilij.Ewart Oakeshott (1994). The Chinese version of a scimitar is the dao, also known as the Chinese broadsword. Resembling a machete, it is wide at the distal third of the blade, single edged, and gently curved, with a disc-shaped hand guard. Popular in the 18th to 19th Century cavalry, the US Marines still favor this sword in ceremonial functions. Talwar During the first half of the 20th century, the term "bastard sword" was used regularly to refer to this type of sword, while "long sword" or "long-sword" referred to the rapier (in the context of Renaissance or Early Modern fencing). (2009) Lung India : official organ of Indian Chest Society. 26 (1): 26-9. doi:10.4103/0970-2113.45202 - Pubmed Power and royalty were common themes associated with the Scimitar. Akkadian Art represented this weapon as something held by their kings and the Goddess Ishtar. Other Mesopotamian Deities also held this sword to represent royalty in Babylonian cultures. In Arabic traditions, it was adopted to symbolize different meanings, often to denote the State, Islam, and even God.The London Masters of Defense". Iceweasel.org. It represents honor, courage, and chivalry, embodying the values that have shaped the region's cultural identity. Bladesmiths traditionally crafted the shamshir using Damascus or pattern welded steel, but this is not a necessary feature for characterization.
