Description

You are confined to one part of the island as there are armed drug dealers on the other side of the island. While new members of the community can be vetoed by those who already are. Plus, there are several menial jobs to do. So, our intrepid travelers find the beach and are enchanted with it and the little commune of people who live there. Awesome... Except I don't get it. There were a lot of inconsistencies that just didn't work for me. Like our main character narrowly escaping armed guards on one part of the island, and then chatting up the next person he sees without a care in the world. No suspicion that this is another guard, just "Hey, how's it going?" The film has been released on VHS and DVD. It was released on Blu-ray in Spain in October 2022 . [8] The standard DVD release included nine scenes that were deleted from the film, including an alternative opening which to an extent resembles the one in the novel. These were later included in a Special Edition DVD release, along with Danny Boyle's commentary on what might have been their purpose. There is also an alternative ending which depicts Sal committing suicide and everyone loading up on a boat from the raft.

The film score was composed by Angelo Badalamenti, and a separate album containing selections of his score was released as well. The community needs food to eat, it needs water to drink and it needs to keep a watch out for the armed farmers on the other side of the island.

This The Beachsummary has looked at one of the most popular novels of recent times. Garland’s novel is a brilliant book that keeps you hooked and makes you think. Richard convinces Françoise and Étienne to accompany him to the island, partly out of an infatuation for Françoise and the promise that it's something different from the typical tourist experience. They travel from Bangkok to the shores of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand, where Richard befriends a pair of American surfers. They talk excitedly about the myth of the beach and how it has an almost unlimited supply of marijuana. Richard does not admit his knowledge, but later copies his map and slides it under their door the next morning, wrestling with his decision to inform them but deciding that world travelers aren't supposed to keep information from each other. So why the mediocre rating? Well, it also had some things that I don’t typically enjoy such as a lot of underlying political/social messages the author was trying to get across . . . . What’s happened to Nathan is what happens when we don’t interact with people. And he’s interacted with machines that are of his own invention.” Garland laughs, “That’s basically what writers do, isn’t it?” Excellent writing -- different, interesting, and colloquial without being cliche. His short descriptions of the characters are beyond adequate, as he lets you immediately understand the person. Richard, the main character, is both elusive and relate-able -- he's an enjoyable character for me because I could see myself in him. He's selfish and flawed, but tries to remain a team player and at the end of the day (or the trip?), he tries to save himself and his friends.
