Description

In this unique hardcover book, Rob Sears presents a hilarious collection of poems, sonnets, and haikus, created by rearranging Donald Trump’s tweets and public statements. Description People are proud to be saying Merry Christmas again. I am proud to have led the charge against the assault of our cherished and beautiful phrase. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Now with seventeen all-new poems! As we lurch deeper into the Donald Trump presidency, this timely publication also includes Sears’ scholarly footnotes and introduction, in which he excavates new critical angles and insights into the President’s poetry which the casual reader might initially overlook. Colbert and Seth Meyers and Samantha Bee and Noah are all incredible, and yet they are not changing the course of human events,” he goes on. “Trump is. It’s the satirist’s dilemma, I guess. Are you only solidifying people’s opinions rather than changing them? Because God knows, the reaction to satire by people who are politically opposed to the satirist is just more entrenched than ever. They are enraged by satire. And I think it’s an interesting truism that fascists hate satire. They are incredibly paranoid about being laughed at.” That said, there are some good poems here, and very tellingly most of the best poems are ones where the author has actually tried to accomplish something, rather than juxtaposed two random sentences out of context.

The Beautiful Poetry of Donald Trump. Collected by Robert Sears. Believe me. It's incredible. It's fantastic. Must read! Folks, this book is great. These poems are fantastic. That I can tell you. And I am really smart. Believe me, I know words. I know the best words. Everyone agrees. That's a true fact. Now with seventeen all-new poems! As we lurch deeper into the Trump presidency, this timely publication also includes Sears' scholarly footnotes and introduction, in which he excavates new critical angles and insights into the President's poetry which the casual reader might initially overlook.

My first impulse was to write a book only about the cast of characters in the Trump administration and leaving him out entirely, almost as a way of insulting him,” says Lithgow. “Because it is the most amazing rogues gallery. But, you know, after I’d written four or five poems, I realised I’m not really writing about them. I’m writing about Trump.”The result is disappointing - perhaps its greatest achievement is just in demonstrating how easy it is to write underwhelming modern poetry. It fails to impress, because it doesn't try - it settles for the easy joke, oh wow, Donald Trump is weird and stupid and evil. Which he is, of course, but if you stop when you hit that mark, you're not making full use of your resources. Recent resarch has demonstrated the effectiveness of changing social norms that accept or allow indifferance to sexual violence I'm not going to say it, because I'm not allowed to say it, because I want to be politically correct Sears is far from the first to notice potential in Trump’s voice: after all, elevating a man who struggles bigly to articulate himself to poetry is inherently funny. “He does speak in very compact, distilled phrases that tell you a lot about who he is, in a small number of words. So it’s not that far away from poetry,” says Sears. “Lots of declarative sentences, a staccato rhythm. There is no complexity to anything he says. People have said he writes like a third grader with a limited vocabulary. I’ve read so many of his words and there really are no exceptions.”

Annotation by Trump on article by Jonathan Capehart, which he sent to the journalist – tweeted by Capehart, July 8, 2015 On average there are more than 300,000 instances of rape or other sexual assault that afflict our neighbors and loved ones every year And finally, a poem like "Does torture work?" works by finding a gem of absurdity to construct a theme around: Together, we can, and must, protect our loved ones, families, campuses, and communities from the devastating and pervasive effects of sexual violencemind you, these are not actual poems actually written by donald trump; they're more like 'found poetry' curated from a selection of his (oh-so-many) tweets; magpie-ing a line here, a line there, arranged into coherence and displaying more humanity than most of trump's actual speeches, all read aloud by a #FAKETRUMP. it's a fine novelty-book, even if you're someone who never wants to have to think about him ever again. This is, basically, cheating - you could take literally any public figure and do exactly the same thing with their public statements. Lithgow pauses, and points me towards a quote by Peter Cook, who once said that he modelled his satirical 1960s club The Establishment on “those wonderful Berlin cabarets that did so much to stop the rise of Hitler”.

Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart. the best thing is that this is a game anyone can play. here are some i've compiled myself, from a sampling of trumptweets: Trump is poetic. So poetic, with tweets. It's tremendous, what Sears did. Crooked Hillary uses too many words in her books. Far too many words. You just can't trust her. Too many words to trust.

My initial reaction when I heard about this book: Well, I don’t know a lot about poetry, but that sounds like a bad idea. Russell Brand’s take on reading the comment that “Ian Huntley’s voodoo dolls should be taken away and burnt!” specifically sprang to mind for some reason. Tweet referencing Tiger Woods’ marital infidelity and later victory at Trump National Doral, 20 March 2013 Sometimes humor (as in the way that these poems juxtapose Donald Trump’s words) can unmask the sheer absurdity of what is being said.
