Description

Claire Anderson is a struggling widow trying to keep her husband's media company afloat. Tristan Miles is the head of Acquisitions for Miles Media - the billionaire takeover king of New York. When he set his sights on acquiring a company he never fails to get it. And the company he's going for is Claire's, started by her late husband. Our very first meeting of these two characters is the outside veneer of Tristan - swoon worthy, gorgeous, pedigreed, a calm, cool, composed businessman sitting down to lunch and giving her an offer to takeover her failing company. Claire can only see that outside veneer of Tristan and is as defensive and angry as hell in their meeting.

Is Claire really over her ex? In my opinion, no and for me it damaged my connection between the H & h. I am never one to say that you can’t find love after loss. In fact I’m a huge proponent of books where a widow or widower finds love after they have lost someone. So that’s not my issue here. My issue was Claire’s actions, and I didn’t like the way her actions made me feel about her relationship with Tristan. Elliot Miles, head of the London office of Miles Media, is known for being powerful, cold, seductive, and a womanizer. So much so that the paparazzi have dubbed him The Cassanova.

In T L Swan’s steamy third installment of the Miles High Club, Kate’s hot new pen pal is a welcome distraction from her horrible boss. But nobody is as distracting as Elliot Miles…and he knows it. Elliot’s romantic heart tells him that when he meets the one”, he will immediately know it from the first time he sees her. Like he will feel the earth move or something and just know. Since he felt nothing more than annoyance for years after meeting Kate, he thinks he just wants her for her body. I’ll be honest though. If this book had a role reversal and the hero was the widower and the heroine was the second choice, I wouldn’t have liked this. I know it’s a bit messed up of me, but again true.

He doesn’t do relationships. She doesn’t want to, and doesn’t have the time to, have a fling. It's obvious for anyone that this is not just sex or a casual thing, except for both of them. It’s adorable to see them fighting against it until they’re both in too deep. Kate is trying to come out of a funk after some personal loss in her past and her boss is just always on her case. They get off on the wrong foot from day one, and now, years into their acquaintance that have this aversion to each other that is a bit out of control. This is going down as one of my favorite books of 2021. The Casanova is everything I want and need in a romance novel. i actually didn’t want to spend more time writing a review for this book, but after one night of sleep i still couldn’t forget some of these quotes and had to include them here. that’s why we need some context: A crowded hostel room, body odor, and beer bongs—there are no words for the fresh hell I’ve landed in. Disgusted with my love life, I join a dating app under a fake name. I start chatting to a man named Edgar. He's not my type and lives on the other side of the world, but we hit off a friendship, laugh and confide in each other. Safe H isn’t really a manwhore but he does date around; both h/H go out with other people at some point but nothing happens with the om/ow during that time

And here's the one last super spoiler: it turns out that the "ballerina" was the heroine's beautiful but materialistic older sister who had confiscated the heroine's teenage artwork from the attic after their parents were killed in a car accident and auctioned it off for millions of dollars. Yes! The heroine is the artist whose work spoke to the hero's soul, so he was clearly right about his love being destined. (Let's just ignore the fact that paintings by some unknown artist aren't going to be snapped up for high-profile auctions that would catch a collector's eye. Also that artists study and train and don't just produce great art as teenagers keeping their Mum company while she cross-stitches in the evenings.) That being said... I liked this one a bit more than the first two books! Lol. I didn't hate the ending, when Elliot decides to go pursue another woman, because I could definitely feel he was into Kate and anytime he thought about another woman, he believed her to be an 80 year old and only cared about her art (he's art obsessed). The grovel was nice though, not gonna lie. This is where my opinion of him began to flounder. He KNEW she was a widow and mother to 3 boys but when he actually saw her as a "mother" he ran away and from that point on it was HER chasing him. Now, don't get me wrong, the first introduction to her kids was way OTT and ridiculous and any normal person would take issue. But prior to meeting her kids he starting making disparaging comments about her house...not the size BUT the fact that there were bikes in the front yard, shoes on the front porch, and the messiness of her house. ALL those things are rather NORMAL! He even commented that "this can't belong to the woman I met and knew in Paris" (or similar). This was an immediate red flag to me. So because she had responsibilities and her life wasn't as "carefree" as it was when she was on a vacation/work retreat she immediately isn't who you though she is??!! WTF dude? You knew the score, you pursued her, and now when reality shows you're ready to run. And run is exactly what he did... In many ways Tristian was a great hero. He pursued the heroine, refused to take no for an answer, wasn't put off by her age, LOVED her body - stretch marks and all. He was reassuring and over all a great hero...till he met her kids.Elliot starts to show his better side and Kate let go of her bitchness to be funny and vulnerable in a good way. we come to "book three" and my favorite part of the story. This part of THE TAKEOVER is when we really see the full picture. We see Claire struggling to raise three very different sons. We see Tristan become and grow into the man he displayed glimmers of in Paris. Moreover, we witness Claire and Tristan begin to form a more mature, adult, and lasting relationship. Sprinkled in between are wonderful bonding scenes between Tris and Claire's kids. It all culminates in a very satisfying ending that felt well and truly earned. Repulse is a rather strong word, isn’t it?” I say as I join her in staring straight ahead. “I think the word you meant to use is fascinate.”
