If you’re eager to dive into The Catch whether you’ve read T.M. Logan's 2020 book or not then the place to head is Channel 5. The drama is split into 4 episodes, each an hour long, and airs every Wednesday at 9pm on Channel 5 starting from January 25, with episodes made available to stream afterwards on My5. I had some slight trepidation but everyone, particularly Cathy, was brilliant at understanding that I would go through things that might be close to the bone during filming. I try not to shy away from these things, though. If it’s a well-written piece, like this, then I’m happy to do it, because illuminating the extreme instances of what life can throw up and being able to share that is a bit of a privilege." Thank you Random House, and NetGalley, for the chance to read The Catch by Alison Fairbrother. This is a thoughtful, character driven story with strong writing and elegant narrative development; Ellie, early twenties, is coping with the unexpected and sudden loss of her father and trying to understand why her father bequeathed a beloved object to someone unknown to her and her half siblings and step mother (baseball, emblematic of a lot of aspects of Ellie's father and her relationship with him). At the same time she is on this journey the reader is also invited to be a part of Ellie's own development, her struggles as a young journalist, her romantic strains, and her own movement as an independent young adult but one with complex family ties. Ellie is just starting her journalist career, living with friends, and has a boyfriend she is all about. Then when her father dies and leaves her a confusing gift while passing on a favorite baseball to an unknown person, Ellie uses her budding journalistic connections to begin her search for said person. What she finds upends everything she thought she knew about her father and throws her own life into turmoil. On New Year's Day 2011, Jason Watkins' 2-year-old daughter Maude sadly died of sepsis. He now campaigns for greater awareness of the condition, and is a patron of Child Bereavement UK, a charity supporting children, young people and families when a child grieves or passes away.

This was a pretty satisfying ending to the “US Marshals” trilogy. The mystery of who murdered Madison’s husband and is stalking her has been in the prior two books and I was excited to read and see what would happen in this final book. Continuing the ongoing thread from previous books, while plunging headlong into a brand new twisting trail of deception. Madison and Jonas have come a long way, learning to trust each other through many trials, their shared faith bringing them even closer together. I liked getting to know Ava, as she works to stay one step ahead when it feels like there is nowhere to turn. I honestly could not rate this any higher. Tim you have worked your magic again, I can't wait to read what's next! Not only is Madison trying to solve the murder and find the missing child, she’s also trying to figure out who killed her husband five years ago. Solving that crime may be the only way she can close that chapter of her life and hopefully move forward into a life with Jonas. But what about Ed? Should he follow his instincts? It turns out he has reasons that bring his motivation into question, so it's unclear. But he decides to go to great lengths to prove Ryan is not who he says he is, and risks everything to do so. No one, including his wife, agrees with him. Ed’s research into Ryan becomes an obsession, one that threatens to cost him his job and his family. A new boyfriend, a sudden engagement…and now rushing head-long into marriage!? Wait! This is all happening too fast!✋🛑

After enduring Ed's foolishness, all I got was him murdered by Ryan off-screen. Why was this pivotal scene not written? The denouement was like every other that's been done to death, inclusive of Sudden Stupidity Syndrome and boatloads of unrealism: Television drama is governed by immutable laws. You know the sort of thing. If someone turns to their partner and sighs: “I’ve never been so happy in my life!” they will be run over by a bus shortly afterwards. If a character is played by James Nesbitt, he will be irresistible to women. And if anyone mentions that their parents were killed in a tragic accident, they’re lying. The last of these popped up in The Catch (Channel 5). What significance does the gift she receive have? Why would her father give the baseball to someone else? Ellie digs deep to try and find out what secrets her father had been hiding. Did she really know him like she thought she did? Meanwhile, she’s dealing with her own secrets, including an older, married lover.Whether the material deserved such a strong cast remains to be seen, although there was enough intrigue to tempt me to continue watching next week.
