The smut was good? Magic sex, that's a better term for it. It was also cool, intimate and sweet. Vivi, if I met someone like Rhys, I wouldn't let him go off bed, too. With The Ex Hex releasing soon, are you already working on another project? If so, can you share a bit about it with us?

Rhys Penhallow broke up with Vivienne Jones nine years ago. She responded to it by drinking Vodka and cursing him using a candle from Bath & Body Works. She was just goofing around and was sure that the curse would never work. New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins, writing as Erin Sterling, casts a spell with a spine-tingling romance full of wishes, witches, and hexes gone wrong. I like to say this book is taking the concept of “Pumpkin Spice” to a new level. 😉 It’s all the coziest bits of autumn- woodsmoke, brilliantly colored leaves, full moons, caramel apples- and adding a little bit (okay, a lot) of kissing, and a fair bit of Magical Mayhem. What inspired you to write The Ex Hex? With a lot more to come in the future as well, she definitely will not be finishing any time soon, as her writing career builds from strength-to-strength. This book is far from perfect. There were lots of things that I wished would be different or cut down. However, Sterling manages to describe readers with a picturesque Halloween feel and witch vibes, I couldn't help but wish I could experience Graves Glen myself. This makes the first half of the book such an easy and fast read. I love the stellar banter from the resentment that the two main characters still have for each other, making their moments always a barrel of laughs. Vivi and Rhys were such an iconic pair, and I enjoyed their dynamic even with Vivi's cousin, Gwen was in the picture.

You’ve had my heart from the moment I saw you on that bloody hillside, and I hate that I wasted nine years without you, but I’m not wasting a single second more. If you need to be here, then I need to be here. Simple as that.” Filled with delightful witchiness and humor, this playful romantic comedy from Sterling explores second chances and self-discovery. … Comedic chaos rules the day, with plenty of laughs overlaying just a touch of introspection as the exes realize how much they still mean to each other. The result is a fluffy Halloween treat.”— Publishers Weekly As the curse starts to affect the magic of the town, resulting in murderous wind-up toys, an outraged ghost, and a surprisingly talkative cat, Vivi and Rhys must put their personal feelings aside and work together to break the curse and save not just the town, but also Rhys’s life. The Ex Hex follows exes Vivienne and Rhys. In the throes of emotional turmoil after a break up, Vivi mixes alcohol and magic, jokingly cursing her ex-boyfriend Rhys. However, when Rhys is forced to return to the town it turns out that the simple curse was much more sinister than they imagined. Can they fix things before time runs out?

I was very reluctant with this book, as I said because of the hype. Buuuuut, clearly I made a good decision I've made this far. If I had read it before, when the hype was at its peak, I would've rated it with 5 stars or so. 4 starts is good for me tho. I can’t think of anything objectionable about THE EX HEX; I just didn’t vibe with the ship. I didn’t feel excited about their relationship progression. I’m sure other readers can answer the question of “why are Rhys and Vivi a good couple together?” — but I can’t! I never got emotionally invested in the “we accidentally corrupted the ley lines with bad magic” storyline. Ambivalence about a HEA is not a good sign! This book gives me a strong Sabrina the Teenage Witch vibe which I'm loving so much. A good contender for a spooky season with witches, magic, humour, and a swoony beautiful romance combined with a whole lot of warm fall undertones. She would later go on to write her first novel as Erin Sterling in 2021, which would be titled ‘The Ex Hex’ with it being an entirely stand-alone novel. This book would be a romance novel aimed at adults, with some fun wit and humor featuring along the way as well. Getting a lot of critical acclaim for her work, Hawkins continues to write and maintain a presence both online and off, with a lot more to come in the future still. second chance romance is one of my least favorite tropes; i rarely feel any chemistry between the two main characters, but for some reason, i actually really liked it in this book. their banter was SO much fun to read, and their personalities complemented each other so well. I really hope the author writes more books about this town and these characters because I love them so much. She is running her families store when Rhys older brother, Wells, comes into town and sets up a similar store right across the street. She has a lot of hate in her heart for Wells and is extremely mad that he decided to do this. The enemies to lovers in this book goes hard and is *chefs kiss* amazing. I adore Wells and the witty banter between the two is phenomenal.

I loved the plot of this story even more so than The Ex Hex. I think the pacing is superb and I loved all of the new characters that we meet throughout the book. The romance was full of spice, but didn't take away from the plot of the story, it just added to it! A pitch-perfect paranormal romantic comedy … The Ex Hexseamlessly blends fantasy and romance, with a strong sense of world-building and magical rules that guide Vivienne and Rhys’s attempts to course-correct from the ‘accidental’ curse, and an equally evident sense of attraction between these two witches. A bit of unexpected magic, a dose of revenge and a sprinkling of steaminess churn together in a humorous and heartfelt paranormal romance, sure to delight fans of Hocus Pocusand Practical Magic—or any contemporary tale of witches run amok .”— Shelf Awareness A small-town witch is forced to make magic with the man who broke her heart when his return sets a series of supernatural disasters in motion. Due to Graves Glen having a change in the flow of power, many new witches have gathered in the town. Encountering these weird energies and emanating magic is cause for lookout into the safety of the town's magic.Nevertheless, there's no denying that the second half of the book started to get tiresome and draggy. The conflict was stalled, with more scenes of the characters banging each other than necessary. The world-building fell off due to the characters' passive approach in breaking the curse; I realized the ending was rushed and poorly delivered. as much as i liked vivi and her relationship with gwyn and elaine, rhys was the star of the show. i would read this book again JUST for him. he had me grinning throughout the entire book and was just so unintentionally funny sometimes 😭 the way he’s obsessed with vivi? and calls her “cariad”?? 😩😩 on my knees. I really enjoyed the supporting cast, especially the baby witches who Gwyn mentors (I’m hoping we’ll see more of them in future preferably alongside Bowen, Rhys and Wells’ other brother) but my absolute fave has to be Gwyn’s treat-loving, talking cat, Sir Purrcival who’s even more hilarious than he was in The Ex Hex. Sterling’s novel is ultimately crisp and sweet, like biting into the perfect caramel apple . . . will sweep readers up into a world of whimsical magic‘ Kirkus According to the protégé effect, the student teachers score higher on tests than students learning for their own sake.

For I have found one of the funniest, hottest, witchiest rom-coms I’ve ever read – Erin Sterling’s novel, The Ex Hex. Vivienne “Vivi” Jones had her heart broken 9 years ago. In a drunken state of mind, and with the help of her cousin, she jokingly placed a curse on the man in question. Only it seems the curse actually worked. Oh, and Vivi and her family are witches. And though Gwyn and Wells are fully committed to their witchy rivalry, they find themselves thrown together when they have to deal with the sudden appearance of a mysterious new coven and Gwyn’s concern that something—or someone—is messing with her magic…
