Another hard-to-put-down book from [Heidi Perks]. With so many layers and complex characters, the suspense will keep you gripped throughout' Woman's Weekly C.L. Pattison's The Guest Book offers the readers to delve into the hidden mysteries of a guest house and how it uncovers the dark realities of human psychology. Metcalf, Mitch (November 28, 2018). "Updated: ShowBuzzDaily's Top 150 Tuesday Cable Originals & Network Finals: 11.27.2018". Showbuzz Daily. Archived from the original on November 29, 2018 . Retrieved November 28, 2018. Arjay Smith as Arlo (season 1), a fan of the show, seen only in cold open summarizing the previous week's episode to coworker Woody to entice him to watch the series. When parents leave their son alone for the first time in the beach house while they attend a concert, he has his own adventures and learns what it means to be a grownup. This is a book that requires constant attention as the plot wavers, hides and changes in a neat and fascinating way. There is a touch of Agatha Christie in the way the characters and the plot swerves, steadies and takes another route, which is fascinating to read and is extremely addictive once begun. A loner's family invites him to the beach house for a weekend and asks a stripper to pretend to be his girlfriend. He neglects to tell her that they are reality TV stars--and they are not really his family.

Why not? Because we are the historical record. We don’t get to walk away from the crimes we have enacted. For not just decades but centuries, millennia of cultural and racial and religious warfare. We can’t give ourselves permission to disappear before the final verdict has been handed down by the people who do have the right—and I strongly suspect that the only people who have the right to forgive us and absolve us also have the right to be angry for many, many more generations to come.

Sarah Blake’s writing is beautiful. Her prose is elegant, powerful, poignant, and almost hypnotic. The characterizations and dialogue are so incredibly vivid and devastatingly realistic. The trappings of wealth, the narrow- mindedness of class distinctions, the half- lived lives, the progression and changes of the times unfolding through the years, stripping away decades of racism and prejudice is mesmerizing. I really enjoyed the plot twists, how the author played fair with her clues and how much she made me care for Grace. The was a visceral scene in the book that brought me to tears, in a good way. A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. Moving along, in the late 1990s, the Miltons can no longer afford to own the island. Kitty’s grandchildren may have to sell it, but one of her granddaughters, Evi Pattison does a very good job of building the tension, suspense and paranoia in the story. I felt the despair that Grace did as she grew to realise she was trapped in the village and that everyone was against her. I also did not expect the ending AT ALL. There were no clues whatsoever, so I was incredibly surprised.

On the other hand, Reg Pauling isn’t given any kind of interior life. He seems to have no purpose save to deliver sharp lessons to clueless white folk. To be sure, he may be imbued with moral rightness, but because he is not so much a character as a mouthpiece, the lesson falls flat. When days later one of the boys ends up dead. Laila thinks she knows who did it and explains it to the Police detective that comes to investigate. The Other Guest by Heidi Perks was a great holiday read however, I found it very hard to get into, its about infertility issues between

This is a novel about white guilt, and it does so many things right and cares about so many of the right things that I almost—but not quite—am willing to love it. The blot upon its freshly starched canvas is of such a nature, however, that it does more than just prevent me from loving the book; it renders it in its entirety so deeply problematic that I’m not entirely sure how to feel about it—at all. I will refrain from writing more because I think it best to read this for yourself without being clouded by someone else's opinions. Choose to read it for the family drama and historical fiction, but stay for the journey you will take in retrospect.

Pure, thrilling escapism. Whip-smart twists make this summer sizzler impossible to put down. The Other Guest is unforgettable' Chris Whitaker It is very readable and it made me what to read to the end to find out who was the murderer however it was just a flat book. If I worked in publishing I would be having a word with the cover designer because it has no reference to Laila (who never gets in the pool) and really it should say guest(s). Asides from that I did enjoy it, the people watching (which I can totally relate) how when we get Em and Rosie's p.o.v it reinforces how we shouldn't judge because you don't fully know the situation. Also how well do you ever know a person. What extent would you go to or would you choose when your given all ultimatum. 3.75 stars from me. Guest stars: Pete Davidson, Lisa Rinna, Tipper Newton, Izzy Diaz, Matthew Willig, and Lexi Ainsworth

Hobbies

Lying by the pool Laila likes to people-watch (don’t we all! 😂). However, she becomes a tad obsessed with another lady and her family, much to the annoyance of James who is starting to act strange and seems to be harbouring some secrets of his own! With a couple of other suspicious characters, there are certainly plenty of suspects when tragedy strikes at the resort just a few days into the holiday! The book started off pretty well with a really unsettling atmosphere when a couple of newlyweds get stranded in the coastal town of Saltwater when they’re on their way to their honeymoon. The storm, the strange vibes of the town and the weird behavior of owners of the B&B where they end up, were pretty disturbing. Add that Grace and Charles seems to be hiding a secret of their own and you had everything for it to be a fantastic read. A fun, compelling thriller - perfect to read beside the pool, or at home, dreaming of warmer times to come' The Observer Wow! I love Heidi Perks novels and IMO this her best one to date! The story focuses on 2 women who have come to White Sands Resort on the island of Ixos in Greece; Laila who has come on holiday for a break with her husband James after their 5th failed attempt at IVF, and EM who has come on holiday with her husband Rob and her two teenage sons. On day 3 of the holiday there is a murder (no spoiler) and you, along with the guests) are left trying to work out whodunnit. Although the story leaves us with a hint of hope, it is a shy, tentative first step. Mirrors don’t lie- looking into one, seeing the dark corners of our nation’s past, and our own personal histories exposed, is neither easy, nor kind.
