About this deal

In this hot, claustrophobic setting, friends are questioning friends, wives are looking differently at husbands, no one trusts anyone.” Watson has once again written a gripping and tension filled book! She kept me on my toes guessing and second guessing my prime suspect which changed throughout the book. Then at the end of the day - I was wrong! The story unfolds through three characters perspectives. The beginning is in the present and the rest of the book unravels through chapters describing how events unfolded. The characters are not very pleasant and therefore, most were prime suspects in my eyes throughout the book! Another Sue Watson psychological thriller is out in the world! And has featured as our Book Club choice for September 2022. The only thing these 3 couples have in common is their interaction with Stella, a beautiful employee of Fitzgerald’s who’s juggling multiple jobs. Waitress, bartender, yoga instructor. These couples cross paths the morning Stella is found dead. Everyone had a motive here. The men have wandering eyes and some of the women are jealous. Sam and David Harrison are on their Honeymoon ~ (however David is so critical of Sam; he certainly has my Spidey sense on alert!) Sue Watson was a journalist on national magazines and newspapers before becoming a TV producer with the BBC. I loved the premise of the book; Couples at a holiday who find each other after a murder. There were just enough suspects to keep the suspense heightened, and I just had to keep reading, searching for clues. The couples all had their secrets, but it wasn’t all revealed at the same time, which I liked. Watson has an appealing writing style that kept me on the edge of my seat. No unnecessary words or sentences. The relationships of either of the couples were very trope-y and shallow and not well fleshed out. Neither was any of the characters and none were likeable or relatable. They just all seemed completely off. The Resort is available on June 24th. After having read many thrillers in my life, I thought I had this plot figured out, but I was very wrong. Sue Watson, you totally fooled me! (5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐) The beautiful waitress from the restaurant last night has been found lying dead in the sand. And the police want to question your husband about it. In addition to her expert use of weather, Watson is deft at utilizing the setting to add depth and richness to her writing. Fitzgerald’s is a luxury hotel set on an island. Resort guests are lured by the glitz and glamour and dress to impress. It’s a calling card for deception; people pretend to be someone they’re not and their actions parallel their pretense. People were pretending they’d nothing to hide! Interestingly, the hotel’s old world charm with the crystal chandeliers and opulent colour palettes lose their glitz and become shabby and dim as evil grows and starts to take over the island. Once the guests realize they can’t leave due to the police investigation, their outlook dims, and what was once considered a luxury vacation “feels more like a prison sentence.”

Sue Watson has done it again! 5 shiny stars for this fantastic, twisty thriller… It is sooooo good!… ONE HELL OF AN ENDING!!!!’ It’s All About the Thrill ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ You’ve been excited about this getaway for months–at last, a chance to reconnect with your husband at a secluded island resort. But when he unexpectedly calls you from the beach, you hear the urgency in his voice. Something is very wrong.

Stella Foster is an employee at the resort; she is young and beautiful, works as a waitress in the evening and yoga instructor in the morning. However when Stella is found dead on the beach ~ guess who is a suspect? Yep a member of our couples! Hmmm why would any of them have anything to do with a stranger’s death? Utterly impossible to put down. I devoured this book in just one sitting… Gripped me from the beginning… There is absolutely no way I could predict where this was going… Will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. You’ll be gripped.’ Little Miss Book Lover 87 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ One thing that seemed odd to me was that it was always so hot in the rooms ~ isn't this a ritzy resort that can ensure the rooms have adequate air conditioning? And if it's so hot all the time why are people wearing hoodies?

Sue Watson is an incredibly gifted writer. As she penned this domestic thriller, it was easy to find fault with each of the guests, but quite difficult to imagine who the likely killer was. In fact, Ms. Watson created a bevy of unlikable characters, thus increasing the difficulty of sorting out the killer's identity. By so doing, this book proved intriguing from beginning to end. Considering the twists in this book, as well as misdirection, this was definitely a book designed to keep even the most keen of readers on their toes. Noah's concern for Emma, and her refusal to confront her traumatic experience, have driven a wedge between the couple. Pursuing Pasaje based on the romanticized ideal of Sam and Violet, who like Noah and Emma fell in love at Christmas, is a way for Emma to reconnect with their relationship as it was before. When she finally reaches Pasaje, however, she decides not to enter the pool, later telling Noah that she " didn't want to lose 15 years." There's a dual meaning to this statement. Waiting for the shoe to drop in this compelling read made for a bumpy, albeit enjoyable ride. In fact, not only was the drama more than intense, the ending grabbed me by the throat and truly caught me by surprise, especially as this book was written in first person, from more than one point of view. This made it even more difficult to guess the killer. Job well done, Ms. Watson. It is with bated breath that I await your next read. I could not stand the constant yo-yoing with the hot and cold, deep into and withdrawal of relationships and thoughts of the couples: it just seemed so unbelievable and far away from reality.

About Me

It was supposed to be an idyllic honey moon on a deserted island but for Sam & David it was a nightmare. The hotel has a history of its own with mysterious deaths & disappearances The police look into Stella’s death & tells everyone not to leave.

One couple is there to deal with life after loss. Another couple is there on their honeymoon. Another couple's actions cause concern for the others involved. What is everyone's story? More importantly, since there are only six resort guests and some staff, at least one of them is a murderer, thus a long shadow of doubt is cast on just about everyone. The resort is accessible only by boat and the police insist that everyone stays put until all are questioned, especially since motive could easily be assigned to any of them. I may not have identified with any of the characters this time, but I was absorbed in a compelling read and in awe of the author’s talent. I can’t wait to see what she writes about next! Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this eGalley. This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for an honest professional review.Originally from Manchester, she now lives with her family in leafy Worcestershire where much of her day is spent writing and procrastinating. Her hobby is eating cake while watching diet and exercise programmes from the sofa, a skill she’s perfected after many years of practice. Three couples are on holiday at a secluded island resort looking to have the time of their lives but end up in a murder investigation. When Stella the resorts bartender is discovered dead at the bottom of nearby cliffs everyone is under suspicion and forced to remain available for police interviews.
