About this deal

The rich, Middle Eastern cultural context adds to the author’s adept world building… a surefire hit with teens.”— School Library Journal, starred review

Jahandar has literally ruined everything. He launched a storm killing innocent lives and destroying a city. He kidnapped his daughter against her will for something he thought was best. HE ASSINATES (sort of) THE LOVE OF HIS DAUGHTERS LIFE. The caliph hesitated, and that said more than words ever could. “There was a time I did. But the fact that you waited until Shahrzad slept to touch her shows me you know she would not approve. You will not disrespect her in such a manner again. Nor will you disrespect me.”

I’ve missed the silence of you listening to me.” Shahrzad attempted a weak smile. “No one listens to me as you do." His expression turned quizzical. “You don’t wait to speak,” she clarified. “You truly listen.” My favorite part is still the magic in this book and I just kept singing the song “ I can show you the world” while reading this book over and over again. I am surrounded on all sides by a desert. A guest, in a prison of sand and sun. My family is here. And I do not know whom I can trust.

Khalid slowly loses consciousness, thinking about how much he was surrounded by love and how it was more than he deserved, while Shahrzad screamed and then started sobbing. While each rose and dagger tattoo design may differ in elements such as color, size, or placement, the intertwined symbols represent the complexity of human emotions and experiences, with contrasting elements of beauty and danger, tenderness and strength. A: Daggers in tattoos are associated with strength, courage, protection, and power. They can also represent darker connotations such as revenge and danger. Q: What does the rose and dagger tattoo design symbolize?

I thought the last chapter/epilogue was really cute and pleased me to see how the characters were living. ALSO YASMINE AND TARIQ! I SHIP IT! Perhaps most of all, I love the final rise of "girl power" at the novel's climax. 1,001 Nights is a sexist story at its heart, and I was a little concerned about the way The Wrath & the Dawn simply turned it into a lusty romance. The novel ends on a high, powerful note for the strong, flawed, complex women of the novel. And I appreciated that touch a lot. While the rose and dagger tattoo design holds a specific meaning, the interpretation of these symbols may vary based on personal experiences and beliefs. Your own interpretation of a rose and dagger tattoo could be a representation of the people or things that you hold dear and are willing to protect. At night, the Sultan shows up with his contingent of guards–unfortunately, they have to leave behind their weapons. Khalid asks for Shahrzad in exchange for returning Yasmine, and Salim tries to lie. Then Shahrzad steps into view, and lets both of his daughters tell him how she managed to get out. Despina of course was easily disregarded, but Yasmine was not. And Khalid asks that Salim abdicates his throne, gets a home outside of Rey with guards to watch him, while Yasmine becomes the Sultana of Parthia. Jahandar watches this whole exchange, with blood boiling, because he thought that he was going to get help from the Sultan, but he realized then that Khalid had taken everything that Jahandar had held dear, and he can’t find his book. When everyone stands to leave, Jahandar asks about the book, and Khalid tells him that it is destroyed. Khalid ignores his question after that, and Jahandar grabs Shahrzad’s dagger in anger. Khalid steps to protect her, and Jahandar slashes across Khalid’s face… Moreover, the design of the dagger itself can carry its own meaning. For example, a double-edged dagger may symbolize duality or balance, while a single-edged blade may represent focus or forward motion.
