Description

Liu was born on 23 June 1963 in Beijing and raised in Yangquan, Shanxi, [5] where his parents had been sent to work in the mines. [6] Due to the violence of the Cultural Revolution he was sent to live in his ancestral home in Luoshan County, Henan. [7] Liu graduated from the North China University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power in 1988. He then worked as a computer engineer at a power plant in Shanxi province. [8] Writing [ edit ] To Hold Up The Sky reminds me of those days. Of science fiction without guile, without snark, without ironic disaffection and all its exhausting modern baggage. It just asks what would happen? Waits for someone to answer. And then it asks again. Kids and flames… These were the pictures impressed him most in this world, but he was not sure why.

The science-fiction comedy film Crazy Alien was adapted from his science fiction The Rural Teacher [ zh], which has grossed 2.2 billion at the box office, making it the fifteenth film in Chinese film history with a box office exceeding 2 billion. These stories excel at linking hard science fiction with global humanism and quiet moments of emotion. Liu's writing maintains a calm, matter-of-fact demeanor, even as it conveys inventive cruelty and beautiful imagery . . . [This collection] will appeal to readers of literary fiction and classic science fiction alike.”— Shelf Awareness on To Hold Up the Sky The supreme consul was famous for his calmness. The light blue intelligent field always stood still around him, was the symbol of his personality. But at this moment, like all beings around, his field crept yellow slightly.

A well rounded view of Liu's work, showing him both in the mode familiar to readers of The Three-Body Problem trilogy as well as in other, perhaps more unexpected, styles. Highly recommended for fans of Liu's work or for those interested in Chinese sf in general.”— Booklist, starred review, on To Hold Up the Sky A breakthrough book . . . A unique blend of scientific and philosophical speculation, politics and history, conspiracy theory and cosmology.”—George R. R. MartinFifty thousand light-years away from Earth, in the center of the Milky Way, an interstellar war that has lasted for twenty thousand years is nearing its end.

He was too weak to get off the bed so he slowly moved to the window close to the bed. Silver moonlight shone on the window paper. The little window looked like a door to another world, a world where everything should be silver-shiny, as if they were miniatures made of silver and non-hurting ice. He shakily looked up through the hole in the window paper. Illusion disappeared. He saw the village he had been living for life.I am Cixin Liu, author of the Hugo Award-winning book "The Three-Body Problem" among other hard sci-fi stories. At that time, sci-fi was still a very marginal pursuit in China," Liu writes in his foreword. "Science fiction is seen as something foreign." He stopped to relax in front of a magnificent restaurant, in which he saw a tall woman with exposed body laughing in the restaurant’s window. How tall she was! Xiuxiu was only half of her height… He thought of Xiuxiu. She died when she gave birth to her baby. It was the village custom that women did not go to hospital when pregnant. Later he heard that Xiuxiu was fortunate compared to her husband’s mom. That woman also had a difficult birth but once her husband learned it was a boy, he gave up the woman. Then she was put on a donkey, let it walk and squeezed Xiuxiu’s husband out… Dusk Until Dawn · Hades' Daughter · Heart of Stone · Inject me Sweetly · Mr. Devil · Red: A Transplanted Tale · Sealed with a Curse · Strange Neighbors · Twice the Growl · Vampire Girl · Vampire Girl 2: Midnight Star The title character is school teacher Mr. Li, a dedicated man who firmly believes the only route out of poverty is education, so defends his school from the villagers attempting to strip mine it for their own short term needs. The doctor stared at him for a while, ‘half a year’ and puzzlingly saw him have a long sigh out, like him got a comfort. After, he had gone to the province’s main city, which had an oncology hospital, and asked a doctor there how much such a surgery would cost. The doctor told him that, considering his situation, he could stay in the hospital’s welfare ward, and that his other expenses could also be reduced commensurately. The final amount wouldn’t be too much—around twenty thousand yuan. Recalling that his patient came from such a remote place, the doctor proceeded to explain the details of hospitalization and surgery.
