About this deal

This is a great little book about friendship, love, coming of age and finding the people who will love you for who you really are!! Sangu Mandanna spins a bewitching tale of found family, magic, and the power of love. Dark humor and bright writing abound in The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, and readers are sure to be charmed.”— Award-winning author Suleikha Snyder trigger + content warnings: a lot of discussions about trauma in the past / childhood trauma + abuse in past, mentions of loss of loved ones, mention of online harassment, brief mentions of homophobia + racism + colorism, talk of illness, talk of abusive relationships in past, brief mention of cancer in past, spider mentions. So what’s my problem? Many, apparently. Among my lighter quibbles, I’ll say I was generally bored with the story, I didn’t find the prose half as magical as I hoped it would be, and also thought the whole thing was aggressively twee (and listen, I like twee!!!). I felt like there was zero chemistry between the leads. There was no substance to their attraction beyond “you’re hot.” It has a ton of awkward magic info drops that felt like the equivalent of an actor in a film turning to the camera and explaining something everyone else in the scene knows, but is clearly getting stated for the audience. It was very cringy. But I promise you'll fall in love with Jamie the moment you'll read about his scowling, as much as you'll fall in love with every other character: the quiet Ken, the golden heart Ian, the meticulous Lucie, and the three little witches who'll burn the town down to protect Mika.

This book is like a warm welcome home and is sure to find itself being a comfort read for many… Mandanna’s first adult novel is a positively adorable romantic fantasy.” — Library Journal (STARRED review) A magical tale about finding yourself and making a found family that will leave the reader enchanted. This book is like a warm welcome home and is sure to find itself being a comfort read for many… Mandanna’s first adult novel is a positively adorable romantic fantasy.” — Library Journal (starred review) The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is a warm and witchy hug of a book. Full of endearing characters, romance and found family, it’s the cozy magical romance you’ve been waiting for. I absolutely adored it!”— Tasha Suri, Author of The Jasmine Throne Synopsis: Thirty-one year old Mika Moon was brought up to believe that the power of too many witches existing in close proximity is dangerous. Due to this, she’s led a largely lonely and solitary life where she can’t truly be herself. One outlet for her, though, is her YouTube channel where she performs magic, knowing that no one actually believes it’s real. Well … almost no one. First of all, the dialogue in this book had me in giggles constantly. Between the kids' shenanigans, Ian's wildness, and Jamie's dry snark, I smiled so much reading this! But there's also a ton of sweetness and even some really delightful swoon-worthy moments, and I'm certainly able to admit I had tears in my eyes a few times near the end over how simply precious it all was. I am a PUDDLE. This was one of the most wholesome, precious things I have read in my entire life. If you enjoy cozy fantasy tales with a bit of romance, a cast of very lovable characters, cottagecore vibes, and a heaping dose of found family, you absolutely need this on your radar because it includes all of that and more, and depicts it all brilliantly. I know I'm not the first to say this, but this book is absolutely a warm hug in the form of a book and I loved it.

This novel nails the ‘found family’ trope. With such loveable yet quirky characters, the journey was anyway going to be exciting, but the way the author brought out the feeling of oneness amid these disparate individuals was just beautiful. None of the characters feel unidimensional. The owner of the Nowhere House is archeologist Lilian Nowhere who is busy, buried her head in her secret projects, adopted those girls but she doesn’t have time to take care of them or teach them how they control their powers. Yes, Lillian is a witch just like the girls! Thiswhimsical romanceis full of quirky, lovable characters who will charm even the grumpiest of readers. It’s an enchanting story that brings to life the wonders of finally finding your people and letting love find you.”– The Washington Post It's not always enough to go looking for the place we belong. Sometimes we need to make that place." Sangu Mandanna spins a bewitching tale of found family, magic, and the power of love. Perhaps I love this troupe because is everything I've ever wanted, but you would be surprised to find out how much you would cherish reassurance when you had only read about it. Note: It does have a lot of cuss words. If you don’t like seeing the F word thrown around casually and regularly, this won’t work for you. The story is written in third person following Mika's POV, but there were also some parts that followed Jamie, the librarian.

And the fun actually begins. Do you want to know what will happen? Just grab a copy and enjoy your full ride! In a Nutshell: This is the sweetest and the cutest and the loveliest book I’ve read in ages. Imagine sunbeams and moonlight strewn together in a magical combo! Go for it without a doubt. Overall: very eccentric, huggable, vivid characters, heartwarming chapters, romance, magic, secrets, entertaining schemes: I’m sold! This is so amazing! I hope I can read more secret society books in near future!Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own. I found the romance excruciatingly slow, which for me is pretty much ideal because I'm an uncurable masochist. I want to be tortured with lingering looks, longing, 'innocent' hand holding, and sweet, 'friendly' words until eventually, after more than half a book later they finally give me what I want, (which is more or less what happens here). In fact, the longer they take to get together the better. Yes, I have a problem. I will NOT do anything about it except read more exruciatingly slow-burn romances. Call me crazy, I don't care. I also definitely have a weak spot for the grumpy x sunshine trope. I can't help it. It's delightful every time. Just the idea of an insanely energetic, extroverted person teaming up with a broody, antisocial introvert brings me an innumerable amount of joy. A cozy tale about the powerful alchemy of believing we are worthy of the family we find. Full of charm, wit, romance, and an affirmation that we are all deserving of love and real magic.”— Travis Baldree, Author of Legends and Lattes A warm and uplifting novel about an isolated witch whose opportunity to embrace a quirky new family—and a new love—changes the course of her life.
